But the big boys at AFL HQ still get their pay rise and bonuses

Benny more or less confirmed that it will be a first time coach.

My gut feel is the club really wants Mcqualter to succeed. Clearly he is highly regarded amongst the playing group and hierarchy.

I have no doubt this was also part of Dimmas plans on why he resigned so early in the season.

I Wouldnt think wed be overwhelmed by applications.

Its a bit of a hiding to nothing.

Overseeing the exit of champs, no draft pick, the best of times getting smaller in the rear vision mirror

Ill speculate tomoz
Yep. It will take someone confident enough to impose their will on the twilight champs who are pretty fixed in their ways.

^^^ this - forget the media spin, Dimma & Co would have had succession plans in place and discussions about it in the off season.

The Club already KNEW he would'nt be contuining next year.

In any well run business this is STD practice.

Pending favourable outcomes, I would'nt be surprised if Mini got the gig either.

I might have missed something but it seems like no-one is talking about Xavier Clarke as a choice for Senior Coach.

Any thoughts?
He might still be a year or two away but he would be my choice. He briefed us recently and was very, very good.

Having said that, Mini briefed us last year and his tactical explanation was second to none. McQualter understands game plans (ours and our opponents) and how to nullify the opposition. He has a hard edge to him as well. That might help at the moment.

At least Mini has 13 games to show us his stuff, a big enough sample to gauge his talent. Geish had 5, won 4 including that great game where we knocked Carlton out of the finals in the last round at Princess Park.

Get us into the finals and win one and Mini has got the job IMHO

Might be a bit irrational, but I hope it is someone who has been involved with us at some stage of our success- Mini, Grigg, Leppa, X. Clarke just a few examples. Some wont be considered for various reasons, but i think someone who understands what has brought us success, while bringing in new ideas will help.
Someone coming from the outside might have to try very (too) hard to fit the ethos of the club which may not come naturally- Bucks always looked like this once we had success.

Same thoughts. We're still good enough to play finals, still have the upside younger mid-20s players and it's best/easier to transition to a new coach with someone who's known our way for at least 5 years. Starting with a new external will bring us back a lot. Only struggling clubs would take that risk. It's Mini and Leppa for me as best 1st two.

Who would we like to see on our coach selection panel?

They typically involve the CEO, Head of Footy, some Directors and one or two external to the club (but may have been former players/coaches etc).

My thinking:

- Benny - given
- Balmey
- Emmett Dunne
- Tim Livingstone? (is he entrenched or do we need to refresh him with a new coaching panel?)
- Peggy? (no longer on the board obviously but I reckon could really add a level of governance to the committee, asking the right questions, ensuring independence of thought etc)
- Alex Rance - this might be a bit out there but I just love that he is a deep yet somewhat out of the box thinker. Understands elite performance, leadership etc. I reckon he would be an inspired choice in this forum

I love that Rance used to jump out of rubbish bins and scare the *smile* out of people. Get him.

I'd put Cotch on there. Most likely won't play under the new coach and was an integral part of instituting the Richmond Man mantra along with Dimma.
