2024 Richmond Coach

C'mon Fly you can do better than that. Just reading on the AFL website that Fly speaks well of Leppa to become our new coach BUT also recommends Hayden Skipworth and even Chuckles!!! (i.e. trying to hide they want to keep Leppa so look at our cheaper offers)

Here's why we need to go with a young coach prepared to cut/trade deeply, everyone over 25.

These are all the premiership players from 17-20, and how they were added to our list. The trade players are shown with the original round they were drafted in.

So when we look at sustained success, not just winning a flag but building a list that will win a few there are a few things that you need to do.

1. Draft and develop about 70% of your players yourself, minimum.

2. First and second round draft picks win premierships. You need to have over half your list as first and second round picks, either drafted or traded in. (Geelong would have had more if not for the father/son rule skewing numbers into third round).

When you project out our current list and where it will be in 3 years time, we need to be into the draft and getting more top end talent.

If Cotchin, Martin, Riewoldt, Vlastuin, Lynch and Dow are no longer with us in 3 years time, we will have Gibcus, Brown, Rioli D and picks from 2024 and 2025 as first round selections on our list, plus Hopper and Taranto who will be 28 and 29.

That's a projection of a team that will take 5 years to rebuild.

Carter I dont think the next 'Dimma' is in reference to game style but more towards managing young men and building culture.

All coaches want that Aces, and there are many ways of doing it. I’m just saying let’s not lock ourselves into any biases when casting the net.

Looks like we are as good as turning rookies and trades/FAs into premiership players as we are with R1/2 picks. That tells a pretty impressive story about how good we are at identifying secondary talent, and turning it into prime, premiership talent.

Burning the list and starting from scratch is not the answer.

That goes to point one, you have to draft and develop your own. It's a slow burn though, those players take time to come along.

We need to be in the draft ASAP.

Pretty compelling data.

So @bullus_hit do you think this is the draft we should be trying to address those issues?

Putting up the likes of Taranto, Hopper, Martin, Lynch etc to try and get 3 or more picks in the top 50?

Nice overview there TBR. Geez that Moggies recruiter didn't just get kissed on the pecker with his third round draftees, he got the mother of all gobbies from a combo of F/S and astute selections. No wonder the bastards have been walking around with a stupid grin on their faces for so many years down at Cat land.

Brendon stated that both people inside and outside of tigers will search for a coach based on several.inside tigers parameters.

Just a thought or you herd something ?.

Heard nothing concrete about us and not much to go on really.

I just heard that he is highly regarded by West Coast and they are likely to move to secure him to replace Simpson as there are a number of clubs interested in him.

Reading into that that we might be one of those interested.

Is what’s happening at Carlton with Vossy a cautionary tale for Richmond and Leppa?

Both Vossy and Leppa did horrible jobs as coach of Brisbane and both reputedly did great jobs as assistant coaches thereafter.

So much so that Carlton chose Voss as their senior coach and after a first year bump in performance the wheels seem to be falling off despite having a very good list at his disposal.

Hansen at Blues now and apparently looking after Mackay - stock dropping fast

Cannot trade Taranto or Hopper, no club will take on 6 years, this is another cost of these godfather deals. Hopper a bit like a new car, his value dropped the moment he was shipped out of the GWS showroom. It also sends the wrong signal to the market and will surely hamper our efforts with future signings.

The others, ALL UP FOR TRADE, four picks in the top 30 is enough to work with. We won't be stitching up a franchise player but it is possible to get 4 core players. This is the range to grab an Oscar Allen & perhaps a couple of blue collar midfielders. The 20-30 range can still be used to great effect provided we play the percentages. By that I mean not opting for project types like RCD & CCJ, not wasting our draft capital on outside flankers & not trading out of the top 50 like we did last year.

Make no mistake, this will be a long process, it will require a couple of top 5 picks next year and beyond & it will require some club champions to be shipped out in a similar manner to the Deledio trade.

yes I am not sure why the thumbs down by some, maybe because he is at Carlton?

Highly regarded around the traps and I am sure he is in the mix. Despite spending a lot of time in Perth he is a Melbourne boy. He is Clark Hansen's son isn't he, the ABC commentator from way back when?

He is Clarke Hansen’s son, but I remember him more as a player at West Coast.

Troy Chaplain being spruiked. Not sure about him. Hasn’t coached a team in his own right and strikes me as someone with bit of Figjam about him

Chaos football ,Dimma certainly was a Genius .and Ruttens defensive structures need to applauded as well
We may not of had the best team on paper, but we had the hardest working team on the field .
