2024 Richmond Coach

A lot of conjecture here. No idea what is true and what isn’t about the presentations and the feeling of the prospective coaches about our list.
However I am nowhere near as pessimistic about our list than some on here. To me there is a lot of latent talent and a new coach may well be able to realise that talent.
If you look at players who had poor seasons there are a couple of seriously talented players in that category in Cumberland and Sonsie. We have Gibcus coming back and we have one of the best power forwards in the game hopefully returning.
I also rate Banks and Brown in particular as excellent potential for the future, Bauer looks promising and I believe Ryan will be a very good player for us, but as a ruck not a forward.
We need a reset not just around our personnel but also our game plan. I’d be looking for a couple of decent players with speed from other clubs to strengthen our midfield mix, moneyball types.
I’m not in the bottom out camp
I also believe that the club is doing exactly the right thing getting a senior assistant ready to step up rather than a big name. If we get an assistant stepping up the selection will always be underwhelming to some because we don’t know much about assistant coaches.
Yze has had a similar apprenticeship to Kingsley, both missed out a few times.

We hear the so called players love him yet they checked out those 2 losses we got beltings we're spineless. Never like the players endorsement of Mini.
Did those losses align with dimma announcing GC? We also produced a couple close wins that was unheard of in recent times.

I always remember how in late 1979 something clicked with the Richmond team that had a few aged premiership players from the 1974 premiership team.
I'm hoping that because we have so many premiership players still, the same could happen again. Of course we then went on a spree in 1980

The ‘80 team had a great spine. The current group doesn’t have that.

That’s true but I don’t think we are in as good a shape as we were at the end of 1979 when we had some really high quality youngsters who started in 1976-78 coming through.
Raines, Weightman, Jess and Roach all started in this period.
I’m not saying we will win the flag in 2024

I hope Yze gets the gig who will bring a new voice to the playing group and a new team of assistants and Melbourne's intel.
If Yze gets the gig then Mini needs a fresh start elsewhere, and grow his coaching resume as he has been at Punt Road for 10 years.

In January 2012, Yze joined Hawthorn as a part-time assistant coach.

On 14 November 2014, Yze replaced Luke Beveridge as Hawthorn's backline coach, after previously working with the Hawks as a specialist goal-kicking and development coach for the past three seasons. Yze was credited for played a key role in harnessing the Hawthorn players' elite kicking skills as they developed into the AFL's deadliest team in front of goal over the past two seasons, with the team's accuracy increasing from 48 per cent to 57.1 per cent during his tenure as goalkicking coach.

After six seasons as a Hawthorn assistant coach Yze was appointed to the Melbourne coaching board for the 2021 season.
The Demons would have an outstanding 2021 season in which they finished on top of the ladder and were a dominant team throughout the regular season and the finals series which was capped off with a commanding victory over the Western Bulldogs to win the 2021 premiership.

Yze was a key architect in creating their league best defence that was a key factor in their historic premiership win. In the 2022 season Melbourne would continue their dominant ways extending the winning streak to 17 games, until the second half of the year in which momentum was halted and they struggled with consistency.

Yze continued his role as midfield coach overseeing arguably the best midfield in the competition while their team defence still remained elite and one of the top in the competition.

It’s an impressive CV. Much better rounded than his rival.

I feel that our mantra has to be best available talent wise. This is our draft mantra we are told.

The new relationships Yze will build will create a fresh environment for the Richmond men. It will also keep everyone on their toes which is a good thing.

Who’s to know if X.Clarke or Mini inherited the teams McRae and Kingsley did they wouldn’t have done the same?
Let’s not forget McRae left Richmond for hawthorn before he became a senior coach.
McRae inherited a side that finished 17th , credit to him , I dont see to many potential hall of farmers running around in that side
