2024 Richmond Coach

Is the whole play in a flag thing necessary? How many flags did Clarkson play in?
Exactly and T-shirt Tommy didn't play in any flags either. In fact he came out of a poor Richmond era of late 50's (I remember it well) and was just a back pocket player but he had the determination to make the best of what he had. He also coached his own team at Shepparton to a few flags focussing on fitness. Newey just might be a good fit on that basis but I have no idea who will be chosen.

As this goes on I feel worse and worse about it

We had two gun assistants at the club in Fly and Kingsley, and they have both new senior jobs, and we are left with the off cuts to choose from, or at the very least, no one as good as them.

If this Hardwick thing was half expected, we should have done what Port have done with Joss Carr, and somehow kept them around, to see how this plays out

Very concerned we have missed a big opportunity here.

If we want the next Dimma, the qualifications AFAIK are the following

Play in a flag
Be a senior assistant coach for a flag team

Don't see anyone around that fits the criteria , Fly and Kingsley did fit the criteria, so did Carr.
How the hell would you know they haven’t had their chances yet , mini apprenticeship measures up well relative to Kingsley ,,,there were plenty of mugs potting him and others in last couple of years suggesting we need a broom to sweep new asst. the candidates we have in front of the panel all have very good credentials

One of the other greats from that era, Allan Jeans never played in a Premiership winning team, and I don’t think John Kennedy Sr did, either.

Mini (if appointed)will have practily the same team next year less retirements which will be balanced by the return of Lynch and Gibcus.

Given his performance this year as coach I don't see us making finals next season and I don't buy into he is holding his tactical briliance for next season.

I probably would prefer someone who hasn’t been at the club this year.

What were we in his 13 games he coached 7 & 6 ?

Not bad though given no Lynch

Its a bit embarrassing and testament to how quickly the club seemingly has fallen away with many suitors not interested in coaching the club.

The club is not in the basement as a basket case and has some weapons still in its armory which should assist with a lesser period out of serious contention.

I would've thought the RFC would still be an attractive proposition although it seems like most on the outside view it as somewhat a hiding to nothing.

Tigers fans to be honest are not expecting flags right now they are realistic as they have seen what needs to coalesce in order for flags to be contested for and won.

I'm not sure it's just our list, or only it. I reckon it's the "other" criterion. For example, has to be supportive of things which some conservatives have called woke. If there's any coach which has overly conservative views, they might not want to push some of those things.
I'd also think some older school types may find we're not a good destination (I reckon Clarko and Ross Lyon would struggle at Tigerland). We might say good, but I'm sure our criterion has impacted on some types who could be very good coaches.

There is no evidence of a lack of suitors. There’s actually very little evidence anything from the selection process. The club has remained very tight lipped about what is and isn’t going on and is clearly sticking to a process regardless of any outside factors. Personally, I take this as a good sign.

Like who? The only real rejection appears to be Carr and thats undoubtedly because Port have a succession plan and he or his wife wants to remain in Adelaide.

Exactly.
Some on the outside may ‘think’ the task would be too hard, loss of draft picks, they may not be there when the club is contending again.

Our criteria may be putting others off!

If that's putting them off, then they're not the right person for the job imo.

As I've said before, we want someone who'd crawl over broken glass to coach us. The rest can go forth & multiply.

I'm not embarrassed....

It's the Richmond Football Club... OUR club.
It's not the Channel 7 or SEN or Fox Footy or the AFL or the Heald- Sun Football club.
Because all them organisations are *smile* clueless about what we're upto, they push whatever narrative they want.... which is usually a negative one.
I'm confident those in charge of OUR club know what they're doing and the media hacks and the rest of the football industry can go and get stuffed!

Where did you get the idea that not many were interested in the job?

I believe that a lot of potential coach applicants have shied away perhaps thinking it's mini's to lose & they go on record as a unsuccessful applicant.
