2024 Richmond Coach

That'd be an interesting twist. Been a long long time since there was an indigenous senior coach at VFL / AFL level. Farmer n Cable at VFL level and nothing since.
Club has been at the forefront of pushing stereotypes in recent years. Benny with his openly publicised 5 year plan. First female president. Very strong contingent of indigenous players by comparison to most clubs over the years. The open, touchy feely sharing player connectedness. The ongoing willingness of the club to support n offer opportunities to players with troubled histories, Cuz, Foosh, Stacka.
Could we possibly be going with the X factor and having a crack at the first indigenous coach in a hell of a long time???

You are on the same line of thinking as myself TM.

I’m kinda excited now and would be even proud of the club if Clarke got the job now, especially the list you outlined above.

Last night when I read it I too was trying to remember the last Indigenous coach.

Cable. Didn’t go well for him or the Roos.
Think we are better placed now.

Man, imagine who many more Indigenous boys would come to the Tigers and love to play for Clarke.

Waiting’s joined the Clarke Express.

Who is joking me????

So did he withdraw or got told his application hasn’t progressed to the final stage?

New I forgot him.
Gia was seen scrolling through PRE noticed Mini Dimma was going to be the one all planned since 2016
So Gia withdrew

i like the thought too but the same arguments against McQualter being a Hardwick disciple apply.
That said what on earth is wrong with that? Current finals coaches McCrae & Kingsley are Dimma disciples.

The club isn’t broken. The team wasn’t on its knees when Dimma pulled the pin.
Our club culture is strong & our assistant coaches are talented. If either Mini or X get the senior job then best of luck to them. They will be considered the best available after an extensive search & process.

Selecting an outsider just for the sake of a clean slate does not come without risk too.

I’m excited by a fresh start whoever gets the gig & back the club to make the right decision.

X is very smart, very engaging. Articulate's complex things in a structured way that makes it easy to understand the process. Is innovative. Came up with multiple approaches to get around Lynch being out and tried multiple ways to fix issues and negate opposition defences. Impressive guy.

I would not be surprised if he gets the gig.

Out of Mini and X who would you choose?

The new coach can come from Mars as far as I’m concerned.

I’d much rather the club pick the best candidate than trying to make some sort of statement.

For what it’s worth I trust the club to do exactly that and if Clarke is the best choice then he’d get the job. But it would be because he’s the best option and not because of his heritage.

Been sleeping on this one for a while , like most here at PRE

Had something if an epiphany over night
The four coaching applicants are all good and the club won’t lose
The have the agony of trying to pick the best one for our list now

The way the way the club has set itself up over the last 8 plus years has meant the dickheads and arseholes look elsewhere
The Scott bros have probably looked at Punt rd and thought “not the place for me”

Good question. I'll qualify by saying I have had 3 briefings by Mini and 2 by X. But of the 2 I'd chose X. I can't fully explain why but I know I left this years briefing by X with a better feeling/confidence. And for perspective both guys took direct questions answered them openly and gave insight as to what to look for. So I think they're both quality guys.

That’s we can do ToO.

That the club makes the right decision.

Didn’t C Scott reject and prior to that Thompson?

I’m sure somebody can correct me on that!

The thing is that with Kingsley and Fly is that they are fresh voices to their respective teams, would they have the same results had they coached the Tiges?

I like mini but I also like the idea of a fresh voice

We were very unfortunate to miss out on the possibility to appoint either of these natural successors to Dimma - Fly or Kingsley - and the club just might have been in better shape if it all happened post '21/22, could be playing finals still possibly, with an updated, skills-demanded game-plan especially with MCrae. To me, it's especially galling for the Skunks to be the beneficiary of Fly, with the AFL media and umpires fawning all over them, giving them a joyride like we never saw.

But we couldn't know that Dimma would so quickly forget his pledge to never want to coach another club than the Tigers after all his great success there, bringing them back from 37 years of misery and frustration. Suffering 'burnout' apparently, despite another generous, extended post-season break OS so that he hardly took much of the pre-season, and with about 18 mths of contract at RFC remaining. But then, amazingly, after another lovely OS holiday for a month or two, he's suddenly re-invigorated, missing it terribly and dying to get back into it, taking on the hopeless Suns and promising to lead them out of the darkness of never making finals to a flag over the next few years! A 5yr contract on $1m+ helps to pay the alimony too.

But, we avid supporters have no say or input now to the appointment of our next coach. We can only trust and hope the club, most fortunately still led by Benny Gale, can make the wisest choice. I'm relatively satisfied with the candidates remaining (if Carr is so attached to Poort then sounds like a dud to me).
I trust the club to get it right ... and that's about all I can do.
