2024 Richmond Coach

Does anyone remember how many candidates tried last time? It became Hardwick v Hinkley, with Brad Scott sniffing the breeze and jettisoning for Norf. Anyone else, or was the publicised 'list' that short?

Alan Richardson went deep into the process as well.

Right now, with our specific issues as a playing group I would be looking for a strong personality willing to ruffle a few feathers with a tough and disciplined approach.
I would look very seriously at Figgy, who is hungry as all hell for a flag, with Grigga as assistant.

For the love of god, NO. Failed coach, has never won a Premiership. You just had to see what McRae did with his team when he took over to see how bad Figjam is.

He tried to turn himself into a Dimma after reading Konrad Marshall's first book. The mistake he made was not reading the other two.

The Elephant in the Room is the playing list (IMHO)

If we take our Premiership hangover/blinkers off it's a sad reality (perception) that a lot of our players are simply not up to it.

In 2022 and 2023 we didn't have much luck with injuries - but - taking an objective view (having watched every game during that period) I suggest that we would rank near to the bottom for clangers, turnovers, fumbles, missed tackles etc etc (IMHO)

We could land the greatest AFL coach available but as the saying goes:

"You can't soar like an Eagle when you're flying with Turkeys"

Yep. I get it, but Shuey misses and there's one.
You don't think McRae inherited a few Daicoses along the way and a pretty good young list?
Listen to the howling if they (hopefully) go out in straight sets.
I'm just a bit concerned about the Dimma disciple factor in our home grown candidates.
A few of our players need an ego bigger than theirs to bring them back to earth.

We have watched petulant, wasteful and undisciplined football for three years. No more.

My uninformed sentimental choice is Newman. May have played a couple of years under Dimma, but his coaching apprenticeship has been elsewhere.

Mini (if appointed)will have practily the same team next year less retirements which will be balanced by the return of Lynch and Gibcus.

Given his performance this year as coach I don't see us making finals next season and I don't buy into he is holding his tactical briliance for next season.
so you are judging his coaching performance on Hawthorn this year or do have have another insight ?

An EITR is something that is obvious and undeniable that nobody wants to talk about or acknowledge. I disagree, I think most people openly acknowledge the dominant era of 2017-2020 is over and we need to rebuild for the next one. Its no secret we need to get more good players to contend again.

The AFL make it as difficult as possible for a club to continue to dominate the way we have over the recent past.
In fact they actively work against it.
The reason we're looking at a list rebuild is because of our dominance, we still have a lot of good players but we need to replace the champions we've lost over the last 2 years. Thats very difficult to do when you are the Premier team, we believed that we were still in the hunt this year but injuries to a couple of key players scuppered it.

Now we must reset, do a bit of rebuilding of the list & see what transpires next year.
The new coach whoever that may be, will reshape the list to a certain extent, to suit his particular philosophy.

I wait with great anticipation to see who he will be.

Don’t be surprised if your last 4 words happen.
The rest ….meh

They have more 30plus players then we do. Media darlings.....
