2024 Draft Thread

Almost zero chance they make finals next year. All the talk was how they improved after the bye (and they did) but it was off a low base. Look at the actual results.

They beat the Eagles by 9, and then lost to them by 5. They beat us by 13 (and we could have won that game even knowing how crap we were all year). They beat the Suns by 4 and lost every other game, some of them towards the end, absolute floggings.

They will improve, but can't see them making finals. That pick will almost certainly be top 8, and hopefully top 5 for 2 picks in the late to mid 20's.

Yeah I really think Clarko's gonna do a Micky and get sacked. Too long stalling this club.

With massive academy picks next year it may have been pick 27 (this year) and pick 29-30 for pick 4. Easy money.

Nature of this draft really.

North probably had M Whitlock ranked maybe 10-12 or so. Given needs and getting someone in a year earlier they'll see it as a win.

They've recruited experience this off-season so will be expected to finally bounce.

But makes total sense for us. We'd gone tall all the key running players were gone.

And as you say, our 2nd will be very late 20's.

Also, good to have you back brother!

I like our haul.

Year one of draft rebuild got blue chips on all lines.

Lalor, smilie, Trainor, hotton top 5 talents

Faull and armstrong the two best 18yo KPFs in the world

And two top 5's next year.

Big fukn tick from me.

Agreed. I think some are throwing their toys out the pram, but we have hit the draft in the right way.

2 kpfs addresses that need
1 kpd - albeit with an injury concern, the concussions are absolutely a concern, but he was so pumped to be picked by us. Massive talent if he can get over the concussions, could be an absolute steal
1 small mid forward - again injury issues, but he has massive upside
2 big bodied mids

Not sure whats not to like, sure I'd have liked a couple of different players, but we have addressed most of our list needs. Now onto a bit more speed tomorrow night, and trading back our pick.

I don't mind the coverage. It moves along. But at this pace tomorrow's coverage will last a week.
Lot of pre meditated n hyped up tripe. Interviews with the draftees is o.k. but the faux n pre rehearsed pile ons for the cameras are getting fairly pathetic when you get to 9 or 10 of them. Nearly as bad as the AFL mandated last second timer before the pick is locked in while all the recruiters are sitting around for 3 minutes picking their dates waiting for Dilligan to prance out with his scrap of paper to make the announcement. Only bothered watching this year coz we've got a massive draft hand to start a rebuild with. But it was simply 3 hours of meedjia *smile* that could have been done in an hour

I think I've sussed it. By taking North's first round draft pick we can now afford them to steal the spoon in 2025 and we will still get the first two picks in next year's draft. Bloody brilliant.

Having to have St Johns at every practice and game for the next few years doesn't seem too swift though.

Was hoping we got Allen, but can understand why we would be a little shy picking anyone from WA.

Think we have done well, but we wont really know for 5 or so years.

Because you can't afford during a rebuild kids leaving half through it.
I'm rapt no SA, No Tassie, No WA.
