2024 Draft Thread

So Trainor may be insurance if Gibcus doesn't come up?
In a way I'm pleased we have gone tall as we have next year to get two of the best quality mids in the top 5 picks
Happy we have gone talls
Sick of half back flanker types

We got 2 gun mids who are unique and rare to draft

1 more gun mid with injury risk, so he was available later

3 talls, including one projected to be a star but dropped due to injury risk

Then we got North's Pick 2 (2025) for Picks 27 + 28! We've prioritised potential stars with risk over safer bets. It was a luxury only we could take.

Potentially - no guarantees North finish low next year. Fingers crossed though.

Almost zero chance they make finals next year. All the talk was how they improved after the bye (and they did) but it was off a low base. Look at the actual results.

They beat the Eagles by 9, and then lost to them by 5. They beat us by 13 (and we could have won that game even knowing how crap we were all year). They beat the Suns by 4 and lost every other game, some of them towards the end, absolute floggings.

They will improve, but can't see them making finals. That pick will almost certainly be top 8, and hopefully top 5 for 2 picks in the late to mid 20's.

I like our haul.

Year one of draft rebuild got blue chips on all lines.

Lalor, smilie, Trainor, hotton top 5 talents

Faull and armstrong the two best 18yo KPFs in the world

And two top 5's next year.

Big fukn tick from me.

Definitely a bit of risk factor with a couple of selections .

Did we miss read the draft , did we think talls would go through the teens ?

My only question is the Faull pick , with needs and some genuine talent that went all the way up to our next pick , I’d personally have liked Allen and Berry in particular, anyway Jonty could end up a star .

We have definitely added foot skills and size , still obviously need some pace

Lalor , definitely the best potential of the draft .
Smillie , I’m against most here I think he’ll be a star , has an X factor about him and when he ads strength I think he’ll make a great key in the middle that can go of half back or deep forward .
Hotton , lot to like ads needed speed, obviously there’s a bigger risk then normal
Faull , he’s big , tough , looks competitor
Trainor again a risk but geez he’s a good footballer , again beautiful ball user
Armstrong , I like the idea of him as a third tall that pushes up the ground , good skills , wouldn’t have wanted to use one of our top 4 picks , however as a pick in the 20s , could be a bargain

Norfs rd 1 pick , I like , at worst I’d say that’s a 10 pick upgrade into next years draft .

We'll find out the true value of Jack Whitlock overnight I would think, could be another high future pick around the corner.
