2024 Draft Thread

It hasn’t been a great 48 hours for Kane.

From the Petracca debacle, to the Academy/ FS selections to the umpire decisions.

The thing is that the changes they are now touting, and no doubt will claim credit for, are changes to a very flawed system which they put in place.

The AFL should firstly be ashamed that they are having to fix their own stuff up, and secondly that they are not giving enough notice given the way future picks are traded.

What a mess, and, how typical.

Bunch of rank amateurs.

Doesnt it make for a more exciting afl?
Changes happen spontaneously and clubs get the fun of new plans and strategies.
Fun!
If you dont like it you are an old stick in the mud!!

But Deysy''s right this gets overturned next month and all changes are shelved

It would be completely unethical if they change the rules this year. Clubs traded future picks into the 2024 draft based on them having a certain value. You can't then change the value of those picks.
It's the AFL's game show, they can do whatever they like. The viewers will simply keep turning up n watching regardless and as the AFL provide the funding and media outlets for the competing teams of players they'll keep turning up to play for the viewers entertainment as well.

Kicks goals now. This is an interesting wrinkle. Plays back, forward and midfield.

I’m seeing Darren Milburn flashes. His rise in form and showing midfield capabilities reminds of Dyson Heppell draft year.

If he tests well, he is top 15.

12. Tobie Travaglia (Unranked)
Bendigo Pioneers/Vic Country
DEF, 187cm
Talent League: 8 games, 25.4 disposals, 4.8 marks, 5.0 tackles

Travaglia was thrust into the first round mix with a strong performance for the AFL Academy, but his first outing for Vic Country cemented his credentials. The intercepting halfback loves to take the game on and uses the ball neatly, and his elite competitiveness makes him a strong one-on-one defender.

Despite what Kane said, there is no way they bring this in this year. You can already see the huge backlash they are copping.

David King even said next year is too early.

The good thing is it's not just us that will cop it. The affected clubs will band together on this.

Imagine Carlton. They have been planning to bring the Camporeale boys in for 4-5 years and have planned and banked points accordingly. Then to suggest the rug is pulled at the last minute WTF!

They are even talking it is a couple of months before any changes are finalised.

Am very confident this is Kane just shooting from the hip because she is out of her depth.
If any club is going to take this to court it will be Carlton
I hate them but have to admire their legal team

Looks more physically aggressive than Heppell. Might be the hair but looks a bit like a blue-collar Isaac Henney.

Bo Allan:

I love this kid. Size, pace, aggression, leadership. And scope to improve, given he's a relative newcomer to the midfield.

No one seems to be rating him higher than late first round, early second. If you told me we could have Vontae and this bloke I almost wouldn't care who else we got.

Agree. He’ll be better than a Milburn. And he’s a vastly different player to a slow Heppell as well. Sorry Scoop. A taller version of a Heeney is a better ballpark for mine.

Mentioned him last week but nobody seemed to have much interest in him. Tall, very quick off the mark, good overhead. Inside and out. Bit of aggression.

Only question is his kicking. It’s not great great. And to a lesser extent, his decision making.

He’s the quintessential player that a team like the Swans would knock the tough edges off and turn into a star.

One to keep an eye on.

He was just average v SA last week. Him and Draper went head to head. Cut him some slack for being out for a while but hoping to see a bit more impact in the next game.

He's not the finished article but I love his attributes. I only watched the highlights but they each had 19 disposals and 5 clearances, and Allan also had 6 score involvements. It was enough for the ESPN bloke to bump Draper up to number 3 on his board. The only way we're getting Draper is if we miss Vontae, but if we can get Allan with our second pick I reckon it'll prove a steal.

I reckon Bo-Bo will stay late first round until he proves out as a mid. He's only just started playing there this year and has been injury interrurpted. If he demonstrates the capability to play there, he'll fly up the boards and be out of reach for us (at least on current picks) I reckon. Massive body that motors along real quick. Big broad shoulders. Has one of those Josh Kennedy type of physical builds. If you could put his physical and movement characteristics on Smillie, geez you'd have a player then !

Draper has great hand and foot skills and is a great decision maker too. He loves the give and get. He's not super quick, but ok enough. In all reality, he is the sort of player Richmond could really do with i.e. run and connect, skilful, good decisons, brings others into the game. Last few weeks he has shown he can mix it up in the traffic a lot better than I thought he could too. He's pretty good at clearances. He's definitely climbing the boards.

I mentioned Travaglia a few times onhere l reckon he would make a good wing,,but wouldn't take him too early.

Maybe Vlas mrk 2,,he is a good defender.

Yes, if he proves his worth as a mid he's pushing top-5, certainly top-10. Maybe we can get one of Gold Coast's or Brisbane's early picks.

Maybe Vlas mrk 2,,he is a good defender.
I think at the very least he'll make an excellent 3rd/4th tall intercept and rebound defender. But I think he has the athletic traits to be a mid.

with all the twists and turns, bolting and sliding, trading (bakes)

and the likelihood we own pick 1 or 2 and acquire another top 10

Its not unrealistic that we can grab two of;

FOS, smile, Jagga, Draper, Lalor, Hotton, Trainor,

before we start harvesting 2nd round fruits like Travalglia, Champion, Allen etc?

its something still great about footy, that when your not winning flags, your winning talent.

how long before The AFL *smile* up these last vestages?

Yeah, that's fair. I see a bit of the Heppell in that he has gone into the champs as a back flanker and come out as an onballer. And don't forget Heppell was reasonably quick in his younger days and had a huge tank, think he ran a 14.5 at draft camp in the old shuttle test. But your kicking point is why I go a the Milburn comparison, Dahser played 292 games, two flags and was All Australian. if TT reaches that it's a win. I'm a fan now, you had him early but I'm definitely interested. He could be a much better version of Kamydn McIntosh on a wing.
