2024 Draft Thread

Yeah, I'll be thrilled to get speed & class regardless of size. Body size in the midfield is overrated. We won flags with Sheds and Shai winning clearances and the tallest midfielder was Dusty who can't mark. Trent was a beast at 182cm, and our most meaty mid was a 150cm meatball
Spot on, what's the fascination with BIG midfielders?
Cripps has won B&Fs and Brownlows
But no team success.
The other best midfielders are Prestia's size, Knight's, Brodders, Foley, was Couglan Big??
Agree that's why Jagga is my vote at 1

Not sure what team success has to do with an individual player. One great player isn't going to get the team over the line with 17 other average players in the team. You'd take Cripps anytime regardless.

You need balance in your midfield. Jagga is an option for balance but it is beneficial to mix that with a well-built, taller, defensive-minded midfielder who can go forward and cause havoc. It's all about the combination and how they complement each other.

With the draft order as is, I think there's a good chance Jagga or Langford drop to #6. That would be a great outcome for us.

I don't think we will have draft swaps until draft night, the AFL would want more theatrics .
As it stands we get Lalor at 1,he is the best all round player,,,pick 6 is hard ,l guess whoever is left of Langford,Smillie,Draper,,pick 2 would be FOS or Langford .

I still expect us to take 1-2 Key forwards ,the way it's looking they will take core player's for the future ,and add on needs as we go in future drafts.
Ouzo might want bigger bodied player's who can mark and tackle, and kick goals.

If Norf are flat out right now interviewing players in the teens, medicals etc, I'm thinking we've offered 11 and 18 for 2 and won't move.

We have all the leverage here. We don't desperately have to get pick 2. Norf on the other hand will be paying way overs on Tauru at 2 and will miss an opportunity to get 2 not 1, very good players in a solid draft.

Norf can either keep pick 2 and overpay for a single player on a needs basis, or they can get 2 very good players that might address their KPF need anyway eg Faull, Whitlock whomever and then add in a Lindsay, Allan or somebody else with it.

I know which way I'd be going.

I reckon this will get done between the 2 clubs.

Would love Nth to take 11 and 18..

That would give us Lalor FOS and Smith..
Plus 2 KPF and a small/ utility.
Plus Sharp next year.
Mids fixed.
Forwards fixed.
Ideal.
Fingers crossed.

I think we are underrating some of the key forwards and maybe overrating a few other types, and we need 1-2 decent forwards.
I will be interested to see if Blair allows all types to be drafted,or backs in the b-c graders we have.

It may Redford but if we believe the story that north want a tall it may not cut it for them.
You would think Tauru and Armstrong would be gone by then, we may even take one of them at 10 if they are available. They would be left with someone like Shanahan.
Would that satisfy them …maybe?
But I agree, we have all the leverage.

Armstrong may still be there and one or more of Faull, Whitlock, Shanahan, Sims definitely will be.

You add the likes of Allan, Travaglia, Lindsay, Berry, possibly Reid, Hotton if they want to take the risk, and it's a no-brainer for mine.

2 players at 11 & 18 trumps Tauru only.

Of course it's going to be a mix,but l just wonder how much emphasis we place in recruiting forwards .
We got the ball into the forward line enough, but just didn't convert ,we need goal kickers
Maybe we keep our picks and take the Viking at 10 or 11?

We need players who can hit a target going forward. You can't score when you're missing so many targets.

And BTW we were 3rd last for inside 50 's ie so we aren't actually getting it in there enough from our mids and from rebounds.

Again, hard to score when it's not actually going in there.

Yeah. A deal like that is only going to work for them if they are willing to lose Tauru and take a risk on Armstrong, or they are not as set on talls as is being reported.

There have been games this year were we have won the inside 50's ,and yes some bad entries have caused turnovers ,but also having player's who are average marks doesn't help, maybe Caracella will help in that area, and make us less predictable .
Our midfield get smashed because they are slow to read the play, and miss a lot of tackles .
