2024 Draft Thread

I liked the rules they brought in ,more one on one and less congestion.
Plenty of decent player's to select from Draft time .
I hope we take at least 5 in this draft and even consider trading next years first to get another early pick .
Our first could easily be pick 2.
Or 18 if I'm dreaming.
would you trade our future first for GC 8?

The brisbane 6 is up for grabs but i think we can get that with our late picks

peeps are desperate to find a reason not to declare Jagga Smith the best player in this pool.

hes 100% this years bluechip standout Daicos/Ashcroft/Harry Shekel

what he do today? 33 d and 9-10 clearances and clean in the wet.

on top of a 150 disposal month of footy?

this kid does as he pleases against boys, and will win a B&F against men in his first 3 seasons.

when he gets a contested possession, he puts on the jets and flows into the space like water downhill.

*smile* I hope we grab him
I'm not desperate. I like him a lot. I'm just 100% convinced Vontae O'Cotchin is better than him and everyone else in the pool.

Lots to play out yet ,l still think we can win a few more matches .
I can't see us bringing in many if any at trade time this year ,but Blair may get aggressive and trade out .
If we draft right it could set us up really well for the 27-28 season ,premierships

I think this is the year to get quite a few draftees ,next year doesn't look like as much depth ,2026 draft might be a lot better .

Angus Clarke = Tom Brown MK11.

Dodson will climb in rankings.

Coming around a bit to Draper. Elite foot skills, good pace, reads the play well. Just reckon he’s like his brother: bit soft. Anyway.

Langford very good. Ticks many boxes but a bit slow ? Not sure.

Nicholls. Very poor first half. Very good second half.

Travaglia best for VC with Langford.

Max Whitlock ok. Not much from Jack.

Geez Welsh has a head you want to punch. (Old man is a dhead - personal experience.)

Jacques was good I thought. Charleson is an interesting type. Barker might make a hard running wingman.
Agree about Dodson played really well against Penry who's a good player .
Draper is good and he is getting fitter ,makes the right choices and is attacking .
Charleson is a good player,a bit different than his brother ,much more composure and uses the ball well,a bit of quality about him ,he has played well all year in the midfield and back line for the rebels.
Travaglia would be a good pick up later in the first round .

Still Lalor,Fos and Faull as well to come ,and Ouzo likes player's with good defensive skills .
Ended up the highest rated tall forward for Metro. Pity he missed those 2 set shots in the 3rd qtr, would have franked a pretty good game.
=#3 for score involvements which translates well as that high forward role.
Was disappointed in Stumph and McKenzie. Neither worked nearly hard enough on a day where work rate was critical.
For Allies, Shanahan is very good. Great hands and jumps hard at the ball. Will go early.
Shanahan must of got a rocket for his insipid efforts in the academy games ,he has improved a lot ,although he still needs to improve his defensive efforts
He looked weak as *smile* in the academy games ,no second efforts,no real attack on the ball..
He has the talent ,but he is one l would be watching closely to see if he is prepared to put his body on the line, consistently.

Thought Travaglia and Draper lifted their stock more than most.

Jagga Smith continues to show that he is an elite mid and wins his own footy,

Second game was so much better but that’s because things dried out.

Really like Joe Berry and still in on Xavier Lindsay.

Good draft coming. Runs deep. Might be devoid of generational superstars but still like it.
Lindsay is good ,uses the ball well is can kick on both sides ,runs all day and has a bit of toughness about him ,reminds me more of a mid than a back flanker.

I’ve watched Harry develop over a number of years and I’d be surprised if he doesn’t end up on an AFL clubs list.
As he’s grown he’s managed to maintain a very good skill level, just a natural sportsman and competes really hard.
He’s not one of those bean poles that keeps getting picked for rep teams because of his height, he has real talent, a lot like Will Green who got picked up by theSwans last year.
If he keeps going the way he is ,he will get picked up and maybe a first rounder,he was good.
The other thing is,the boys he was up against were just as big ,surprised me how many big lads were playing .

I’m not sure about Shanahan’s competitiveness either. A lot of games I’ve watched of him he goes missing for really big pieces. He turns sideways a lot when he’s under the ball. Moves ok, nice kick. Has talent. But he wants to toughen up a bit and not just throw it in if he misses out on a first chance.

Lindsay’s kicking is elite. Moves quick too. Would like to see his 2klm and general aerobic ability. Seems he’s likely to go late 1st round so I assume it’s ok.

Herbert from SA has been very disappointing so far.

Geez! Liftmykiltup is lots of fun to watch. Strong on a lead, good mark n very tidy set shot kick, can crunch a body around the ground ball. But so far that's about it, he's still very unsure in his ball use n decision making in live play at ground level. Got a hell of a long way to go before he's fit to polish Kouta's boots n that's not being rude about the fella, it's simply the reality of a code hopper who didn't grow up playing Aussie rules.
Yeah, agree mate. Wasn't saying he was even close to being there, more that with this size, speed and strength I would like to see him move towards that role down the track. Ex-nrl running straight lines with the ball, or at the oppo... I'd like to see that! :)

The 2 Whitlock boys ,Jack is 200cm and Matt 197cms,with up until this week the taller jack 200cm boy rated higher, but I seen a ranking this week whom had the 197cm Matt ranked in top 10,whom would we draft if we had a choice between these 2 boys.

On Dodson, he was up against Strawbs Penry who has been injured most of the year (so not sure about fitness) and Burmeister who is good at High Jump but that’s it…. However he was very impressive/effective on the day… wonder if he will choose AFL over Basketball?!
Like Pendles… 🤓

VCC backline was organised and impressive. Although “Relton” Welsh got a few late for SA against them. I agree Travaglia and Charleson stood out.

Draper got better as the game went on. Definitely top 10 (maybe 5….) Run, carry, decisions, skills…. Conditions were better in second game but he looked good.

Whitlocks were not overly impressive but Berry was. Presents well and good kick. Langford also performed well on the day…

Jagga just knows where to find the ball and already knows where it’s going…. 👍
Guy should/could have dominated with a big body (but didn’t) and was played forward a bit on a wet day…. Underperformed/ injured?!
Ashcroft is Ashcroft. Top 10.

Charlie Richardson was interesting… seems to have good endurance, gets to good spots, raw, kicked it at goal like his namesake…. KB watching on was gold!

Obviously watched on both games on TV so limited view…. Wasn’t a good day for Keys.
Maybe it should have been played at Marvel as it was sitting vacant to showcase some attributes?!

Regards,
Stan

Observations from yesterdays games.Better players from each state.
SA - Sid Draper,Tate Delmenico,Dyson Sharp,Charlie Nicholls,Phoenix Hargrove,Jacob Newton and Ned Bowman.Tyler Welsh looks like a young Tony Lockett.
VIC Country - Joe Berry(very composed),Harry Charleson,Harvey Langford,Cooper Hynes,Jasper Alger and Tobie Travaglia were all great.
VIC Metro - Jesse Dattoli,Lucca Greggo,Jagga Smith,Isaac Kako,Harry O’farrell,Harry Oliver,Murphy Reid,Patrick Retschko and Josh Smillie were good.
Allies - Zeke Uwland,Fergus Mcfadyen,Noah Chamberlain,Jobe Shanahan,Ben Kennedy and Josh Murphy.

Haven’t seen WA yet but it looks like a decent draft pool that could go deep.Metro v Country should be a cracker with O’Sullivan and Lalor returning.

Is Jagga a bit like Tom Scully?

He looks more a cross between wayne campbell (probably the haircut) and zac butters to me. I see a flashes of cotchy the way he hunts the ball too.

Hes a quick, prolific, damaging leader who works inside and out.

Wins a hard ball and instinctively flows into space and buys time to dispose. Im not saying hes like dusty, but he does that dusty flow-into -space and always has time.

Damaging ? 19 of his disposals where handballs, and only 57 meters gained .
We can do better.

We can do better.

Shane Edwards could do an awful lot of damage with 57 metres of handball.

a backwards handball is -m and a sideways handball is 0m

data will always squeal when tortured by stats

As much as l liked Shed ,he also turned the ball over quite a bit .
We are going to differ on Smith ,and l think we can do better with a early pick .
