2024 Draft Thread

Saw that. Swapping future 2nds sounds like a bit of extra entertainment as well.
We would have to give Brissy a reason to do the trade.
Otherwise they can trade with another club.
Or do no trade and use their picks 6 and 44.

whichever way they lose 6. But there needs to be incentive to give that 6 to us

A few other teams can do this year too
Fremantle, Geelong, Giants and Sydney.
So its not going to be a lowball deal

Yeah I think we'll need 200-400 points premium to get a Pick 6 or the GC picks at 8 and 11. I think we'll be really aggressive though. I still keep looking at our list, and I don't think we'll have a huge volume of list spaces, purely with the young boys showing things this year. We will probably want to have a later pick, or a rookie spot available for Zadyn Lockwood too, hoping he goes past Pick 40. I'm thinking 5-6 spots available, so maybe 4 top picks, which means we'll be very aggressive with our hand IMO.

That Brisbane pick will be highly sought after, especially with it looking now like Adelaide won't be trading their 1st pick with how poor they have been this year, their pick is likely to be well in front of a bid for Welch.

My view on current list spots is below.

Currently - 2 extra on list, need to delist 2 just to get back to normal list size

Retire - Grimes / Naismith, I also reckon 1 of Martin or Prestia will retire
Delist / retire - I reckon 1 of McIntosh or Pickett will leave
Trade - I reckon Graham will leave - Port IMO will be all over that
That gives us 3 available list spots.

Of the rest I reckon we will re-sign - Hugo, MRJ, Ross, Ryan, Smith, Campell and Lefau for sure
That leaves Bakes (obviously its upto him, we would re-sign in a heartbeat), Cumberland, Dow, Green, Blight, Coulthard, Gray and Tresize. We probably lose 2-3 of this group IMO leaving us with 5-6 list spots as we go into the draft.

So I suspect we will go as hard as possible to get as strong a position as we can within 20 (4 picks) with a couple of late ones available if Lockwood sneaks past 40. Maybe we keep a couple of 4ths to match, and if not, then we take someone late or take rookies either from the draft or our VFL list.

Its better points, they have more than 1 academy / father/son this year so they need to provide points for both.

They’ve now got Cotchin wandering around in a grape-coloured ensemble tracksuit. What more do they want?

Maybe an undertaking in regard to how we wouldn’t use early picks.

No. Thats only what we have right now.
Any trades eg Bakes, JG would be included

+ first rounder for bakes, second rounder for JG

Potentially 4 picks <20 which would be four very good mids this draft i think.

Think were reasonable set for KPD's if gibbo can stay fit and balta can stay there.

Collect KPF and ruckmen pick >20, unless theres a jack reiwoldt emerges over the carnival and hes in the teens picks?

Have to watch more of the Champs and the Talent league to gauge who’s available at our pick come seasons end but I’d say at this stage there’s no clear standout. But we’d be negligent not to look at Joe Berry or Jesse Dattoli as a later pick if available. Both look extremely talented with massive upside.

I really like Simms. If we were going to take a key forward, he is the one for me in the late first round. Charlie Richardson is closely behind but I see him more in that second or third tall role. Simms I think will be able to ruck as well. Thinking both are in the 15-35 range.

Midfielders, key forwards. That's what I'd like to walk away from this draft with.

Simms does look impressive and I thought Charlie Nicholls from SA worked extremely hard as well.Sticky mits.

Wow that is informative. Thanks for that. Don’t mind trading a future 2nd to get us over the line on 6, and those late picks might allow us to pick up a couple of

Brisbane will trade their first for a future first. Gold Coast will do the same with at least one of theirs, unless they find a way to get ahead of a Lombard bid.

Grimes, Naismith, Prestia (and Colina) to retire.
Too early to say much more than that although if Baker does go to Eagles it would not surprise if Broad became part of that trade.

Hope we will also be looking at bringing in some currently playing in the vfl. At this stage El Nour, Davidson and Pollocks seem likely.

Brisbane still need points for Ashcroft.
They'll want to get a future pick and late picks/points this year.
its not going to be one or the other.

So I cant see how they get a future first unless its a trade with Freo or Swans eg a late teens pick.

From the AFL trade site Brisbane have already traded out their round 2 and 4 picks. (Both are now with GC).
They will be pretty keen to trade their first for points needed this year.

Brisbane couldn't afford to get Ashcroft and their other kid if they traded their 1st to next year. That won't happen. They'll trade it back. As of right now, if you take out Pick 6, they have 44, 62 and 63, nowhere near enough points to match Ashcroft, let alone the other guy. They'll trade it back for a premium on the pick value or between 200-400 points, whether they take some of that in future picks is possible but certainly wouldn't be a first.

GC will try and trade for established players, or trade their 2 up, or they will then trade them into next year if they can't IMO (in that order). They have heaps of points to match Lombard without those 2.

Is this Brisbane Academy Sam Marshall?
Played for Allies in 2 matches last year?
Sounds like a reasonably good mid

Agree. Suns have to get Uwland too. he's on the rise and his brother is already on the list. Prob 25-ish ATM. Brisbane's other kid, Marshall, is also on the rise.

Agree Posh and that Brissy have a 2nd academy player is great news for us.
They'll need maximum points which we can give them.
This should be our primary target.

And agree on GC.
They have form on trading for future picks.
If I'm any team in the top 8 I'd make a play to get a GC first with a future first.
But no way should we do it
