2024 Draft Thread

Wasn’t he was forced to play up forward quite a bit during the champs? Apparently also been nursing some kind of injury 2nd half of the year.

His CTL numbers are more insightful as to mid credentials.
Oh ok, wasn't aware of injuries, can't find anything in respect to that. His National performance (similar last year) is why many say his value has dropped but his average kicking overall and lack of marking power is what has stood out for me. To me, being tall is negated if yo can't use it well. CTL numbers were better but I think Nationals give you a better feeling playing against higher intensity and quality players. I see better options for us at #6 and #10.

fyi only for those that would like to know. And this doesnt answer any questions about who the Tigers are taking with our picks this year. Connors Sports management have signed; Jagga Smith, Luke Trainor, Harry Armstrong, Murphy Reid, Harrison Oliver & Zak Johnston (amongst others) from this years up-coming draft class. Robbie, Nick and Paul already have a good handle on where their "big signings" are going to be going and at which pick. This has been going on and off the record since this years draft class were in the under 16 champs. The player managers most likely know who the Roos want with their first pick- all the player managers talk to each other and will be passing that info. on to other list managers (off the record). This then helps the other teams' list managers plan better their pick trading. It also helps to keep the strong relationships with the young players' and their families re: concerns for moving interstate etc. Obviously this stuff goes on Off the record due to legalities surrounding draft tampering and off the record they may have had handshake deals in place with players they were going to manage before signing those players; when the AFL rules and regulations stated they could. I understand many of you are aware of the fact alot is going on behind the scenes already in this space; and player managers have a big pull in how things are done now-adays with their relationships with the list managers being very close.

I honestly think we should only take one of FOS or Lalor, I think the haul needs a sprinkling of conservatism to go with the very obvious upside of these two. I personally prefer FOS, I think he's more likely to emulate a long career like Sheds, I think there's probably going to be an element of slow burn with Lalor as he works into an AFL workload, I also think the role he plays is more likely to aggravate any soft tissue vulnerability he may have. It's not standard practice to pick a player at 1 who hasn't demonstrated an elite endurance base, or at the very least, has a 13 beep under the belt.
I have said this for awhile but if we have the top 2 picks I wouldn’t discount Langford from having his name called out.

We've been trying to work out who FOS most resembles as a footballer and the best we've come up with is Heeney. Not bad. Pretty good, in fact. But I think I've just seen one better:

Darren. Jarman.

Jarman arguably the best field kick I’ve seen. High praise.

But I reckon FOS is better overhead from what I’ve seen.

The way he controls/ balances the ball in his hand ,then guides the ball to his boot is very similar

He's going to be his own player with his own identity...ok enough of that BS.

I reckon he has Cotch traits. The side-steps, feigns, peripheral vision and never seems to be rushing but fires up the after-burners in times of need.

Yes, there's a reason he's known as Vontae O'Cotchin.

That pretty obvious. But we have 7 1st round picks and an 8th which promises to be as important as 20 and 23, all in a draft that is the least certain of any in the last many years.
Difference of opinion as to how we should approach. Did I mention Tasmania or where we are starting from.

Tasmania is exactly the reason why we should be hitting the top 10 NOW. We will still get picks in the teens once Tasmania enter the comp. Top 10's may be less likely depending on how the AFL does their list build.

So 1 direct question for you.

If the trades were available to do:

Port - 10 for 13 and 29
North - 2 and F1 for 6, 13 and 29
Saints - 7 for 11 and 18

You wouldn't do that?

You wouldn't do:
2>>>>>6
F1>>>>10
7>>>>>11
All for the cost of Pick 18. Do you really think the player available at Pick 18 (likely to end up 21 or 22 in real numbers) is going to be THAT important to our rebuild?

That O'Sullivan video is mighty impressive.
Really like Lalor but geez it'd be hard to go past FOS at pick 1.
Such a tough choice this year.
The more I think about it the more I'm ready to give north 6,20 and keep 10,11,that should get us minimum of 4 salivating young players plus our late picks.
So fos, lalor to us.

Again u have valued this draft in the same way as others. And imo missed where the greatest advantage lies.

I spoke with the father of a draft prospect ranked in the thirty range. He had a few interesting things to say. One was that clubs have told him that their draft boards are quite different to the consensus phantom drafts outside of the first few.

He said Richmond have spoken to his son once and will talk to him again after the exam embargo lifts. He said we were a bit behind other clubs in terms of interviews due to the Toce tragedy. He did say Richmond were one of the tougher interviews and it was heavily psych based. He was a bit concerned that his son isn't as loud as some draftees and wasn't sure how that would come across. Also he thought that footy isn't an oral game in the end and wondered if the interviews carried a bit much weight.
Dustin Martin not exactly Winston Churchill.
