2024 Draft Thread

As it stands now I think there's an excellent chance of Smith or more likely Langford dropping to 6. It seems consensus is Blues are keen on FOS and Crows on Draper. It would then mean North & Melbourne would have to take Smith & Langford. Have heard on the ever-growing grapevine that Dees might have interest in Tauru if North don't take him. There's still risk in North doing a deal for #6 in not getting Tauru and infinite risk if they agree to a deal that involves #10 instead. I feel North my bite the bullet and just take Tauru at #2.

Finn's last game in the losing final to the rebels was booting 2.1 from 20 disposals, eight marks, eight inside 50s and five tackles.
That is not a bad floor for FOS so would still be my number one pick despite most jumping on the Lalor train.
That wasn’t his floor tho, that was one of his better games. This is what we are hoping he can do more of.

Speed a key requirement too.
As with life its balance and compromise.

Elite kicks Langford, Lindsay and Oliver would be a terrific result
This is a good example as to why we need to push higher up the draft, I would throw all the chips at a treble containing Lawler, Langford, O'Sullivan or Smith. The only bit of spare change I'm keen on keeping would be for Whitlock or Simms, i'd even sacrifice a 195cm forward to get the first 3 picks on point.

You can see his highlights of this game on YouTube and make your own judgement. Thought it was a pretty average game overall. Alot of scrappy kicks. Did a couple of exciting things that shows his class and certainly has a leap but you wouldn't look at that game and go yeah #1 pick. Had 7 or 8 disposals in the 1st too so pretty quiet overall. For me, Lalor has shown more.

Lindsay for me at or after 10. Tough, fast and great kick, could up a full time mid. We just saw Harry Perryman sign for 800k a year, Lindsay can be a much better version.

If that is the case i'd happily take FOS 1 Langford 6

There's a composure issue, it's not a technical flaw as I've observed with Bo Allan, I think there's room for improvement and I'm happy to take on a guy who can kick 50 metres running at full pace. That skill is rare and is the reason he's rated so highly, his combine testing enough evidence in the case for picking him at 2.

Lalor looks more ready made, that's for certain, if I had numbers to suggest he's on par with De Goey I'd feel much more settled. The hamstring can be fixed, hopefully not a Freeman scenario, the gut running another story as the MCG is an unforgiving place for those with a limited tank.

Pretty decent highlights all the same in that video of your so called average highlights, I was at that game live so also had first hand vision. Getting back to the video I saw two pretty impressive standing vertical leaps in clearances/stoppages to jump above the other midfielders to tap the ball into space, running vertical leaps to take marks all over the ground, great lateral movement even if on occasion he got caught but his lateral movement is elite. Run and carry even if the 3rd bounce he took he fumbled as he had his head up & lowered the eyes looking for a forward target, (i would have been more selfish and gunned it and took a shot from 50m).
I saw tackles in the clinches so don't buy this outside mid rubbish but agree he would operate best paired with a clearance machine such as Langford/Smith or Lalor?.

**I do agree that game was scrappy and FOS's too with quite a lot of almost moments but I can safely say that I saw all the AFL attributes I wanted to see from him in that game and borne out too in the video highlights that you provided.

PS **I have not seen Lalor play live so he may well be better so have no issue with others having him#1

I stand corrected, however with FOS missing a lot of footy I doubt he would have been anywhere near 100% fit in that game ?

Love the clean hands and the peripheral when it a tight contest , I see him as the perfect inside outside mix , also has a beautiful flowing kicking action that penetrates low and long ……..I’m back on the FOS train today 😉

Let's say we get Lalor 1 and Lang 6. AT WORST (barring injury disasters) we have 2 BIG BODY hard running mids with very good skills who can both TAKE A FREAKING MARK. Do you know how long we've been crying out for that *smile*.

I like Lindsay, I think he and Travaglia are the standouts at 10/11, I'm curious to know why you rate Lindsay the better kick? I thought Travaglia's state form was polished enough, the stats back that up with 82.5% KE. I'm also not buying into the theory Travaglia is slow, I'm calling out the combine reading because it doesn't match the onfield workrate. The thing with Travaglia is he's busy, constantly on the move so you won't really see him run from a stationary position. His tank is also very good, I think these types of players can do very well in the rebounding role.

I've seen Lindsay live numerous times. When you can see live the options he doesn't pick versus what he does, you fall for him. And he is also an outstanding organiser of the team around him. And he is hard, slight but hard. Uncomprising attack on the ball. Lindsay would automatically be a top 5 kick at Richmond. Could be your long term Dan Roili replacement off wing and half back. I think he is a better Christian Salem with the ability to go into the midfield. Travaglia is all energy, and straight lines, I think he is a much much much better Kamydn McIntosh maybe a poor man's much more unskillful Jordan Dawson. We have so many backflankers already his size I don't think we need that type as much as the back flanker who can run, carry and kick and who might end up a mid.

I thought Travaglia was the better player at state level, he was the run and carry whilst Lindsay was the distributor, I also think a tad bit harsh on Travaglia's ability to change direction, his movement is subtle but the angles can be switched up on demand. The midfiled upside does sound appealing with Lindsay but his tank is below Travaglia and he'll be coming back from a PCL. That would be my reasoning to take Travaglia, it's very risk averse but pick 10 isn't the place to be dicing with knee injuries.

I would also add the question mark to his game time in the last few games he played
coming back from injury and watching the games i just felt he spent more time on the bench than some others and rested foward of center than what he would have if no injuries. I just feel he was 'looked after' a bit more in the games
