2024 Draft Thread

Yep. But there's always been a few scrawny weedy little rodents been absolute star players over the years. Might be coz they somehow learn to slip n slide through tiny little gaps that the bigger blokes either can't see or try to smash through.
Looked at that Jagga photo half a dozen times n it's simply poise balance n space, eat my dust bozo's.
That KB bloke went ok for a slight fellow.

I thought Travaglia was the better player at state level, he was the run and carry whilst Lindsay was the distributor, I also think a tad bit harsh on Travaglia's ability to change direction, his movement is subtle but the angles can be switched up on demand. The midfiled upside does sound appealing with Lindsay but his tank is below Travaglia and he'll be coming back from a PCL. That would be my reasoning to take Travaglia, it's very risk averse but pick 10 isn't the place to be dicing with knee injuries.
That i suppose would depend on the level of talent a player possesses
I wouldnt mind at all if Hotton was selected with pick #10 as his talent is massive and would be a great shai type replacement and compliment FOS / Lalor / Sharp brilliantly

This is a good example as to why we need to push higher up the draft, I would throw all the chips at a treble containing Lawler, Langford, O'Sullivan or Smith. The only bit of spare change I'm keen on keeping would be for Whitlock or Simms, i'd even sacrifice a 195cm forward to get the first 3 picks on point.
That would have been the plan if we did Baker +10/11 for #3 but appears blair is not interested in the pick #3
I believe Freo would have still accepted Shai for #10 + #11 in the last hour
We could have had #1 , #2 , #3 , #20 , #23 , #24 + NorF F1 and possibly off loaded a later pick for another F1

A PCL is no issue, was in September, was reported to be a 8-10 week recovery.

This game at the champs told me everything. Showed every facet of his game. He is hard and classy.

These types of picks are 50/50, coming back from an ACL is probably the riskiest because you don't know the extent of agility loss. I'd be ok at pick 20 but that's the earliest I'd bite.

I was a bit surprised at Lindsay's development this year. Always had him tagged as a neat outside player but over the course of the year his willingness to put himself in danger, stick tackles etc has taken him to another level and I think, more flexibility with the roles that he can play.

Nice mover , I’d like to see a little bit cleaner below the knees and a few smarter choices , on the very small snippet looks like more a wing / halfback then genuine AFL mid imho

Don't rely on clips. Too many people on PRE go by clips and aren't watching full games - many of which aren't cut up for clips.

Clips and chipping are your downfall. (Your chipping is getting worse, if that was possible.)

There were quite a few shanks in that batch, it's why I queried the kicking credentials in the first place. Kicks into the man on the mark, kicks straight to the tallest opposition player, kicks that were touched. If anything I'd say he was under represented because he did win a Morrish & I'm assuming his Coates matches were a bit more polished. The other concern I have with Lindsay is endurance levels & whether he can run with the best midfielders in the competition. He isn't really an aerial threat, Travaglia on the other hand has a good eye for intercepting. I'm guessing Lindsay will play AFL, probably on a back flank, i don't consider him in the Salem class, 80% KE is the pass mark for that type of role.

Clips are for people like me with short attention spans

Agree, can play multiple roles well. He is a lot tougher than 12 months ago, maybe it’s size , maybe it’s confidence. Imagine another 12 months in a AFL system, could be anything.

What’s the knock on endurance? Where does it come from? Aerial threat? He is 183cm? Not part of his role. Strange criticism.

It's not a strange criticism when you are comparing two players who are vying for a back flank position. He also didn't attend the combine but from Rookie Central these were the knocks.

STRENGTHS:

+ Ball use
+ Consistency
+ Inside-outside balance
+ Kick penetration
+ Versatility
+ Work rate

IMPROVEMENTS:

- Endurance
- Inside craft

No knock on endurance. As I I’ve previously stated, my recruiter acquaintance is a big wrap for him and reckons he runs all day. No chance goes past pick 12 😉

Do we not go Armstrong & Berry at 10 and 11 over Lindsay and Travaglia if available?
To me, it addresses a more pressing need

Put it this way, would you prefer bundling 10 & 11 for 5 & 20 and grabbing Langford/Smith & Faull? That looks much better from my perspective.
