2024 Draft Thread

If the proposed Nth trade happened, imagine if the top 10 looked like this on draft night:

1-Rich: Lalor
2-Bris: Ashcroft (F/S matched bid)
3-Rich: Langford
4-Carl: FOS
5-Adel: Draper
6-GC: Lombard (Academy matched bid)
7-Melb: Smillie/Armstrong
8-NthM: Tauru
9-Rich: Jagga (live trade 2025 R1(NthM))
10-StK: Smillie/Armstrong

Dreamin but hey 🤷‍♂️
No need to trade up to 2 if our target is Langford.

I’d ask #lolnorf about we trade their p2 for our p18, 20, 23. So as to maximise their p2 for them
Just in case Tauru is their target and the chance he’s gone by our p6. We offer 3 late 1st round picks to enable them a choice at a couple of decent Kpps plus another.

If Tauru is there at P6, we have a choice to pick him before Melbourne/Saints or trade p6 to #lolnorf for our original p18 and 20.
We get p2 for the price of 3 late 1st rounders but keep 6, 10, 11 and 24 plus 1 and 2. Or give p6 and p23 to lolnorf for p2
#lolnorf get 3 shots a decent Kpps or Tauru (p6) and p23

Some goodwill and trust required from both clubs. But it maximises picks for this draft.

We still have p24 to trade out (into 2025 draft) or use ourselves

The dynasty list began with our first three 1st rounders all becoming premiership captain, premiership vice captain, and premiership deputy vice captain.

3 picks = 3 leaders

Everyone in this pool is talented, but not everyone has the character and leadership traits to lead a team to success. So personally I couldn't give a stuff what they can do on the field, I just want the best people. Is there much information available about the non-talent side of the first round?

Agree. But all the players in the mix for our early picks have captained their teams.

The Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls method. Pass. Talent based picking please.

Great plan but your suggestion that we might exercise the right to retain pick 6 and take Tauru is likely to *smile* Nth off.
They want him and it is hard to see a scenario, where having taken the two top mids by that stage, that we wouldn’t chose to take him at 6 ourselves.

Couldn’t give a stuff what they do on the field ?

I am pretty sure we should be targeting both on field and of field at the same time

I have Langford ranked at 3 so I don't see him as a massive reach at pick 2, he has the skill set to be the best player in the draft.

I mean, it's assumed that all these kids are good. The small differences in their U18 form and perceived potential are less significant than the non-football factors they bring to the table.
