2024 Draft Thread

Imagine next year, best case scenario, Norf remains rubbish, and we walk in the door Sharp and Greeves. That's it. Midfield done.
FOS Lalor Sharp Greeves. Weapons of mass destruction.

I DONT BELIEVE THIS TRADE #6 + #10 FOR #2 + F1

There would have to be more for it and its way too 1 sided for Richmond
I do believe the conversation has taken place for #2 + F1 but not just for #6 + #10

It would have to include either our F2 or 1 of the later picks we have most likely #18

#1 , #2 , #10 , #20 , #23 would be taken this draft and #24 traded for F1 to another team most likely Essendon
above picks this year and 3 x 1st rounders next year is still a good 2 years of drafts with 8 1st rounders
But i would be pushing for F2 rather than #18

Well, if the reports are correct (maybe...maybe not...sounds a bit fanciful) then yeah. I think I've gotta do it.

You move into 2 and get the front of the que tandem of your choice. How often does that happen ? And you maintain 10, 18, 23 and 24 in a very even draft. Then, you add say 1 and 5 (or so) next year, and in 2 drafts you've totally dominated matters and set the platform for the future with the best kids in the land.

The top 5 or so next year will have some guns beyond just Sharp eg Lindsay, Dalton, Onley, Greeves, Luds etc

Yeah, you'd have to do it.

Yeah gotta agree unfortunately.

We could also look to trade say 23 + 24 for an early teens picks to get back into that area.

It's getting to the point where we don't need to do this trade & giving anything else back. We have the picks & the flexibility so let's keep it that way. For an "offer too good to refuse" we'll consider it.

I would attempt to get pick 10 to at least pick 7, I think Smith falls in that region. Three midfielders looks like the best play with that remaining hand, although Travaglia is a decent contingency at pick 10.

I agree. North want Tauru, but want something else in value back too, rather than just using Pick 2. Their list doesn't need more midfielders, but the market for their Pick 2 is small (1 party - us). Most likely we've said we are happy with our hand and have plenty of offers to move picks into next year etc and will take a look at the best ones.

It suits North to slide back, they can fill gaps on their list with talls (Tauru), potentially half back (Travaglia) or skillful forwards (Hotton / Berry) or another tall (Armstrong) with those 2 picks. Another year down, is another year less development of their talls (should they take a tall in 2025) whilst the rest of their list gets older.

Their rebuild has taken so long, they are at risk, of once the rest of the pieces of the pie are ready to go, that their older mids are just too old. Simpkin is already 26, LDU is close to 26 (who I think they will allow to leave as a FA - hence don't really lose their high spot in the 2025 draft anyway).

Agree with others Blair said we won’t trade down therefore North need to offer an offer that’s hard to say no to hence why it’s so favourable to us

I’ve hooked up with @Harry.
We’re working things out
Old fart was thinking more along the lines of dart board, we've got lots of picks to throw n we're bound to hit something good. Gotta find me a way to get out of the dark ages sometime soon, obviously got no idea what you young ambidextrous people get up to these days.

Agree with the f2 if its correct that next years draft is not as deep.
Rather keep as many of this years later picks as possible.

Tauru & another tall. Tauru with 6 and another tall with our later pick. that my guess what North are chasing.

I reckon they'll be hoping that Armstrong slides a couple of spots and gets past Saints and Melbourne. If not they either take a small forward in Hotton or Berry, or maybe they trade back again to a couple of picks in the 18-25 range. Sydney, us and Giants would be targets for them.
