2024 Draft Thread

Any word if Noah Mraz tested at the combine? Played Academy games and then did a Navicular which is Nasty…..
seems forgotten?!
198 cm backman…. Maybe rookie??

Thanks for intel in advance

Stan

From what I've heard, the concussion issues are real and extend back to his childhood.

Given most of the touted talls are forwards (at least at this stage), I think Trainor's problems are one reason why Tauru is tearing up the board.

I won't be at all surprised if Trainor falls to night two, and probably all the way to a pick where the risk can be justified.

I'm now of the view that Melbourne takes Tauru at #5 if given the chance.

If that's how it looks like it will play out, North has a problem on its hands.

Of all the permutations, I reckon it's most likely North keeps #2 and goes with O'Sullivan (provided we pick Lalor).

A close second is that they split #2 (probably with us) and go for Armstrong at, say, #10.

A distant third option is that they keep #2 and pick Tauru.
Agree.
North has a conundrum and can play a bold move.
So how do they rate Armstrong v Tauru?
If its similar then they can trade down to 6 and take either one (assuming Dees take one)
Then they can afford to take Trainor at 20.
And walk out with 2 key talls both projected as top 5.
It sounds like they want to be brave, but lets see if they will accept a reasonable deal

So looking at who might go in the teens.
It seems there's consensus on the top ten/12/14
Lindsay Allan Berry Hotton hopefully available at our picks 10&11.
Someone takes Smilie and Trav.
Then it starts becoming tall territory.
Hopefully before this some other clubs reach for talls - North, Dees, Saints.

So in the teens:
WC Port and Freo are taking best available from the consensus top 14.
GWS will take one tall, but will want a mixed bag. Dogs will definitely take a small. I think they go Dattoli.
Swans will go tall, possibly a tall back like MWhitlock. But their other pick is a ? Do they go twin towers, which is their need and whats available? Or do they balance with a small? Hamish Davis is their man.
Any rucks? Unlikely this early.

Across 10 picks we have 4, giants 3, swans 2 and dogs one.
The late teens are basically stitched up in 3 clubs.
So across this section will probably see 2 talls, the rest smalls and whatever we want.
I doubt we take 3 talls here, esp if we trade out. 2 most likely. Maybe only 1
So that's 6 smalls of all types.

Shanahan, Whitlocksx2, Faull, Dodson, Gerreyn Mraz, Sims. Trainor.
4 to come from this group, so the 2nd round still has plenty of tall quality.

And the smalls - Hynes, Dattoli, Hannaford, Anderson, Moraes, Gross, Harrison Oliver, Retschko. Davis possibly.
6 from this group so its much tighter.

We will probably need to go small at 18 (Hannaford / Oliver) and then tall at 20 (Faull)
Then its best available or trade.

Edit forgot Cody Anderson

Pick 6 seems pivotal to all the drafting there is virtually no reason we should get rid of it given there seems to be clearly a top 6 ranking of players in Which no one can decide who goes at any number between 1 and 6., there is simply no advantage to us. However giving up a combination of 2 other picks say 10 and 18 would be have its advantages despite losing a pick overall.

Pick 6, pick 6 the curse continues…..😨😰😵‍💫☠️🎃🎃

It’s still here folks, as close as 2020………

Grainger-Barras, taken with pick No.6 in the 2020 draft, departs after playing 28 games across four seasons at the Hawks.

Would you do 6 & 23 for 2?

100% spook

If we trade 6, the gifted pick should be 20 or 23

You have to give something to get something of high value. So, I would even look at 10 and 11 and keep 6. That scenario probably wouldn't work as likely Dees or Saints would get their mitts on Tauru. But how good would it be if we went into the draft with 1, 2, 6. Then 18, 20, 23 and 24

Or North decide to keep their pick 2, no probs as our draft hand is so strong.

I like the idea of keeping all our picks but the club has its plan and if they want the double act FOS/Lalor then they will go for pick 2. Blair keeping it close to his chest.

Reece Conca is literally the third or fourth best pick 6 ever. Wingard Conca Jack Macrea Rohan. McCasey as well recently. Too early to judge some other recent ones. It really is a bit of a graveyard.

I think you may see some movement in regard to who has these late teen picks. GWS May trade to get up the board earlier, and maybe a few clubs offering up future picks to try and get in somewhere.

2. Finn O’Sullivan (Oakleigh Chargers/Koroit) – 93cm

3. Bo Allan (Peel Thunder/Halls Head) – 92cm

4. Lucas Camporeale (Glenelg/Brighton) – 91cm

5. Jack Whitlock (Murray Bushrangers/Shepparton Bears) – 91cm

6. Floyd Burmeister (GWV Rebels/Redan) – 90cm

7. Thomas Sims (Northern Knights/Montmorency) – 90cm

8. Matt Whitlock (Murray Bushrangers/Shepparton Bears) – 90cm

Denver Grainger - Bareass. Sounds like a fancy name for a cheap n nasty bottle of rough red. Perfect type to continue the failure hoodoo at pick 6.

Draft goes deep this year, maybe we can *smile* with everyone's heads this year n somehow break the curse by finding the best player in the draft at 6 this year. Time to be strong n bold n nail the pick.

Not sure how I didn’t see this….
Good to see the kid back…

Must of been distracted by Alix and FoS numbers. Pretty Boy Floyd only jumping 90cm is a surprise considering they had to stop his school high jump event bc they couldn’t go higher…….

Any chance we can play the WA clubs at the draft?

If Bo Allen is still available at pick 11 would we entertain a pick slide with Freo’s no.14.

That would get them ahead of the Eagles at no.12

What price would Freo pay? F1? Probably not. Definitely F2.

Eagles then may offer their F2 to go from 12 down to 11 to usurp the Dockers.

Don’t know if it’s realistic. Just thinking out loud.

Lot of unders suggestions on here re Norf and pick 2.

And 10 and 11 doesn't work either because that doesn't guarantee them Tauru.

Any deal with Norf will need to include 6 and need a bit more give in it than I'm reading on here. Can guarantee 6 and 23 on its own won't work, 6 and 20 50% at best. 6 and 18 more hopeful.

Yep agreed its most likely 6 and 18.

I think at 20 we will still get one of Hannaford / Oliver maybe Hynes but it wont be our choice.
Anderson and Moraes, plus Davis, Retschko and Gross will be there, so there are options.
if we have 3 not 4 late picks we can still get 3 quality players

I'd prefer just to pick Allan.

Him and Lindsay are my preferred.

But I hear ya, if we swapped with Freo or WC we might get (forexample) Berry instead.
We might rate them equal
Allan v Berry and f2
Tall fast mid for mine
