2024 Draft Thread

This is Twomey's draft hand but remember this is still without Graham and Baker
We could break the world record in draft picks.
They will bring in a rule next year, no more then 3 1st rounders View attachment 24258

I know most of our PRE junior watchers think their own *smile* smells best and are not interested in media driven discussion on the draft but this 30 minute episode of 'Gettable" I found very good, and a fair bit of Richmond content, even with Matty Clarke as the special guest and questions on Baker, Graham, Shai and the possibility of splitting pick 3.
Brisbane's pick 14, many clubs after it especially if it remains pick 14 but Richmond in best position to secure.
Murphy Reid, highest football IQ in the draft.
The rise and rise of the Flying Viking another 2 goal 2 on the weekend from 16 possessions.
Harry Armstrong in top 5 mix now? rise up the draft board similar to Cadman's in his draft year.
Already considered a deep draft at the start of the year it just keeps getting deeper.
Originally just considered a midfielders draft quite a few talls have risen up the boards.

yes.

but will Joe berry kick 50 goals a year at AFL level (his averages suggest he kicks over 2 goals a game at every level he plays),

while FOS and Lalor are unfit and lacking match practice?

do you want a mid who kick goals, or a goal kicker who runs in the middle?

ideally both.

I see JoeBerry as a Stevie J/ Toby Greene type; kicks goals and runs through the middle when you need some razzle.
As I said, I am a Joe Berry fan, watched him live a few l times even sat with his parents a couple of times so you are preaching to the converted. The facts are FOS and Lalor were under done, FOS only played two of the games and Lalor two or maybe three. No need to be so defensive my friend, just relax.

Is that the recruitment timeline? Average careers are how many years?

I imagine we are recruiting for at least 5-8 years, those being likely the most productive years for a player.
Well look out AFL...we have "Miller and Sampson about to tear this league appart" !!

*** Warning - Actual quote may contain bull *smile*

Def not defensive.

Im a fan of fos and lalor; i hope both play for RFC.

I prob didnt make it clear but was just reiterating something ive said for years; junior durability is an important quality and can be predictive

Manage your risk. Both have struggled to play games and dominate at Coates level or the champs. I'd risk one but not both.

And I'd take Lalor at 6, that's the risk I'd look at.
Lalor was Rebels best in 3 of his 4 matches this year, and was heading towards being best again in the match he did his hamstring .
Recruiters project what they might bring to AFL level, and with proper training and diet rehab regimes ,the skys the limit for Lalor and Fos.

I think that is what they are looking for in Seth. Need more of these guys on the list

Another mini-series length excerpt of Mick's game on the weekend.

Yet another classy, instinctive, clean, impactful game.

One thing - You've got to admire his mental strength to keep performing like this after a very long year. From Coates to Champs to VFL to Coates again and finals. Been a long year but just keeps on keeping on.

Would love to know what Twomey thinks we're giving to Brisvegas for that number 14 pick.
On his deathbed Voltaire was asked by the priest "Do you renounce Satan?" He replied "This is no time to be making new enemies."

We're no threat to them; they're no threat to us. Brisbane and RFC are currently neutral. And probably allies this year.

The AFL has incentivised us to only bid on a player at #1 if we are keeping him. So it's not corrupt to not bid on Ashcroft.

According to Twomey, TM- Norfs need about 2900 points for Ashcroft and Marshall. But here's the thing - if we don't bid on Ashcroft we effectively give them 362 points. That's a lotta points to give to our very dear friends at Brisbane.

We have draft picks that will cover 2100 points from 29, 39, 41, 47, 57, 66, 73, none of which we're using.

Their pick say #14 is worth 1116 points. So It will cost them next year's first rounder and #14 this year to get our points this year.

If you were Brisbane would you do that business? I would. Remember, we're spoony as *smile* and no threat to anybody. If you wouldn't do the business with RFC who would you do business with? You're looking for an extra 362 points now because RFC is bidding on Ashcroft. And maybe even Marshall.

Is this the time for Brisbane to be making new enemies? Or doing peaceful business with harmless spooners?

Yeah just about a certainty for pick 1 now. Looks like Ooze's son Noah played at Oakleigh.

I agree, and id add physical durability.

it is a massive, relentless two years for these kids.

(and their folks, who will have worn out two sets of tyres and spent at least $50 grand on steak, medical appointments, petrol, carnival rego's, and flights and accomodation)

But I think what Jagga has makes it not that hard: he's a gifted, pure footballer, blessed with athleticism that makes him incredibly durable, who loves playing footy.

1-5 on for pick 1 (excluding Ashcroft) I'd say, irrespective of who people want or dont want.
Yep. Didn't show too much of his moves in the VFL games but I suppose it'll take a while to settle into a higher level. This kid's got too much talent to not invest into.

I saw a fair few moves,

Spot on Gresy Trays. Always fronting up, always performing always getting the ball. There's a collection at a stoppage in the first 20 seconds when he evades and brings it back to the corridor that is everything i want in a mid. I have him at 1 right now, to big a body of work to ignore.
