2024 Draft Thread

Ask for Brisbane's 1st pick this year, so they can pick up Ashcroft.
But if they hesitate or start playing games.
I would expect us to call out Ashcroft's name 1st.
Then watch them lose 2yrs worth of picks.

We have been nice at the trade table and draft way tooo long. It's time to be ruthless and destroy other clubs

Sam McClure said that a recent dynasty team has pick #1 just 4-years after their last flag. He says we need a lottery and the system is broken for that to happen.
He’s very fearful the Tigers will have overtaken his Blues by 2026

He's basically saying that it's unfair that rule changes, equalisation measures and injury have made us drop so quickly.

That's why we have the number 1 pick.

I didn't hear him complaining earlier in the year.

Interesting that Morris feels O'Sullivan is above the level at the VFL.

It only took half a game for him to say that.

If we recruit him, he won't ever play VFL.

Travaglia at 8 - hmmmmm. Good to see some love.

He had a sneaky under the radar VFL debut for Carlton on the weekend.

Had a couple of sloppy kicks early. Which he can do.

But farrkkk, he plays for keeps. How's his attack on the footy and tackling. He's next level in that area.

Very very good one on one against men. Looks like he really grew into the game as he adjusted to the higher pace.

Once he fills out he's gunna be a great physical specimen who will make opponents scared when they have the ball, and nervous with his attacking mindset with it

.

He's all footballer. Love him.
Yeah l like him to,but isn't a good kick although that can be improved with more composure ,,he lacks composure big time,he's always wanting to play on ,and that results in quite a few turnovers
Interested in thoughts from the keen watchers on a couple of other players likely to go a little deeper in the draft:

Jesse Dattoli and Xavier Ivisic.

Noticed neither have barely played Coates recently? They are with Carey (Dattoli) and Geelong Grammar (Ivisic) so assume school footy has taken precedence?

Any info on how they're tracking?
Im not sure whats going on with the grammar boys,Lalor ,Penry,Ivisic etc they haven't played much coates lately, although they should be playing coates this week.
Rebels are zoned with the bulldogs but none are getting any VFL time, geelong use to take on a couple as well but haven't .
This is a weird year.

Would like to see the FOS have a big rack of possessions in a game before the season is out.

Love the FOS. But if I had a query, it'd be on the number of involvements for mine. 2023 Coates ave 23 disposals. Pretty good I guess for an underager. 2023 National Champs 16.7 again as an underager. All games this year at Nationals, Coates and APS....nothing to write home about.

Would just like to see one big possession game from him a la Jags, Lalor, Langford, Reid and co. A take the game by the scruff of the neck sort of performance.

I’m sure he said this too after the 2018 premiers got a no.1 draft pick 5 years later….

I agree, just watched his national championship highlights again and his tank doesn’t seem to be a problem. He obviously isn’t quick but is a big lad and there is still a lot to like. I have him well ahead of Smillie.
I don't think Jai Newcombe is particularly quick. (doubt he ever tested). Could Langford be a Newcombe type?

Rate Dattoli highly.Knows how to find the pill and has a lovely skill set.

Two of the all-time great forwards of the last 20 years?????? WTF? What a farkwit.

Here is who would be in front of both of them - Reiwoldt/Hawkins/Lynch/Cameron/Franklin/Roughead/Fevola/......I would take Josh Kennedy & Jess Hogan before McKay and would think hard about taking them in front of Curnow.

FFS what a tool

Sounds a bit early days Rance. Just wanted to go full bore every time. But geez didn't he develop composure.

His kicking looked rough but gotta love the stuff Leysy highlighted.

Great posting from all the junior watchers, really appreicate the sharing of knowledge and detailed anaylsis.

This thread highlights how magnificent this site can be.

great numbers!

as a reference point, Harley Reid averaged 19d and 5 tackles from 3 VFL games.

Travaglia 15d 5t

yeah ive really warmed to him this year.

I reckon along with Joe Berry and the talls, one of the least predictable picks in the draft.

I reckon his range is 6-25, such is the depth

there will be a kid this good still there on Day 2

Yes and no.

If we trade with Bris (i think this is most likely) they want points this year.
So 14 in exchange for 33, 39 etc.
Its unbalanced and we should get a pick 24 back. So maybe we'd get a f2 from BL.
And keep a late pick for our nga Lockwood.

We might trade with GC. Their first 4 picks will be up for grabs. They dont want points but players or future picks. Prob 6 might be hard to get.
So 12 and 27 is equivalent to our picks after 21.
Its balanced but where is the incentive?
Instead I'd look at 12 and 20 for 39, 41, 57, 73 and a f2.
And use 21, 33, 51 for BL 14 and a f2
We'd end with 1, 12, 14, 20, 64 (but lions not our f2nd say 36)
All before player trades.

GC get enough points for lombard etc and a pick next year probably 19.

Not many other clubs will want to trade anyway. Adelaide (welsh) and Carlton (camporeales) all look like sliding past into later sounds.
I heard that given the Hawks are likely to trade for Barass they are not going to have much in the way of a draft hand this year. They are evidently interested in trading their 2025 first rounder for a couple of picks in the 2nd or 3rd round this year, depending on the club.
That's another way to go if we are interested in strengthening 2025

Sounds like Sam NoCluer is having the same sort of brain fart issues as Mar NoCluer. Has the dopey prick even bothered to look at our on field performances, list retirements and injuries over the last 2 years? FMD we're travelling that well that even Wet Coke n #Lolnorf have spanked us this year. We earn the right to pick 1 at the draft by being absolutely inept onfield this year, same as every other club has done since the draft was invented. If we then improve our draft hand by wise and astute trading of picks and players then that's purely our list management and restructuring, again no different from any other team in the comp.
Got me a feeling that NoCluer is having a paranoid attack n perhaps staring at the distinct possibility of a no reward era. Carlscum might end up with a not even one flag dynasty of missed it by that much.
It's not that long ago 2 wins in a season got you a priority pick. Imagine the melts with pick 1&2

Bloody hell, trade period doesn't start for 2 months and the ND for over 3. This thread will get over 1000 pages. What is the PRE page record?
