2023 mid-season rookie draft

I just don’t get overlooking him twice. Buller‘s WAFL form already makes me think he is a better chance to make it then Bradkte. So worth the punt.
I think Clarke has a soft spot for that James Hird style of forward if we're splitting hairs, given he's overlooked Van Rooyen & Buller you would say he believes he has his big goliath in Samson. I personally can't see Ryan in that role, I think he's a good shot as a ruckman, provided he improves his aerobic base but I think he'll only be a pinch hitter up forward. So to the original question of overlooking Buller twice, I think it comes down to the notion we have this base covered. Generally speaking I think Clarke hasn't quite grasped the value in having depth in the tall forward area, particularly with ruck/forwards, Melbourne have amazing depth in comparison, completely different list building philosophies and I reckon we might find ourselves in a pickle if free agency doesn't deliver.

Underselling Samson in the ability to play forward.

But your point still stands regarding Clarke and his reluctance to draft key forwards.

I reckon the club still sees him as a KPF, however I'm with bully on this. He will end up a ruckman and will pinch hit in the forwardline. Don't think his forward craft is shabby by any means just will be better suited in the ruck.

LOL. Key forwards I was talking about. We have very little. Tarrant last legs, Collina lol, Jack last legs. You've listed rucks.

Key forwards , Lynch, Bradkte (long shot), Biggie yep, Miller maybe. Amount and quality.
LOL. You forgot Gibcus and Bauer.

Early days I know but Bradtke looks mikes off it. Really poor body positioning in marking contests and gets pushed off so easily by smaller opponents. Reminds me of Chol one on one. Only good when leading for the ball but shows harder hands than Chol too and without the leap.
He looked......err....not match fit on the weekend. Didn't see him before his injury and never seen him before that. Is he "match fit"? I thought he was meant to be agile etc. Have you noticed any physical traits that would indicate he's got AFL potential?

LOL. We never learn.
Just my dumb luck then that we won three premierships. I should have gone and asked Angelina Jolie if she'd sleep with me the day I saw her.
I could have had my hollywood free pass, but I didn't know my dumb luck purple batch was happening and now I've gone and blown that golden
run before I knew it existed.

So long as we're not back to 37 years in the wilderness....

I think everyone is giving Clarke to much......credit? Not sure if that's the right word.
Hartley is our overall list manager. Clarke won't be doing this in isolation, so if there's a strategy
to list development, it'll have Hartley's fingerprints all over it.

Bruv, two things can be true. You can win three flags and have holes in the list three years later.

You wouldn’t pick Jolie if you had the chance, you’d be happy with another back flanker Bruv.

Tbh I’m more confident that he ll get a chance than Coulthard who is tiny , tresize has some great qualities , strong mark , nice left foot kick , hope he benefits from being a FT footballer , needs to add some weight on . I couldn’t see coulthard for 12-18m , has plenty of skill so he too should be fit being in ft afl environment
Agree Coulthard is tiny but his selection as that crumbing, pressure applying small forward was a needs based selection, whereas another HB to add to the long list was a bit more confusing. Just thought taking a punt on a key forward was worth the risk moreso than a HB, because even if it’s really low percentage for us to find a good FF/CHF in the MSD, you won’t know if you don’t try

Interesting if we hadn’t have gone for the must recruit the tall guy ( Bradkte) we could have sparkle Narkle who appears to have stepped up a notch..

Swings and roundabouts and KB may turn out a star

Damned if you do damned if you don’t

As talls in the VFL we have Bradtke, Biggie, Miller and Bauer, while we have Lynch, Tarrant, Soldo, Gibcus (and Collina) out, and Jack, Ryan, Nank, Young, Balta, Grimes and Broad in the AFL.
The number of talls we have on our list isnt a problem. Quality could be
Which would make sense that we weren't interested in mid season C grade talls. Buller or Hunter might end up being wonderful players but they are speculative at best and I feel we have bigger fish to fry.

Generally speaking I think Clarke hasn't quite grasped the value in having depth in the tall forward area, particularly with ruck/forwards.

With Jack at 34yo and still being relied on as our focal point and Lynch now past 30 and struggles with injuries every year, if that is Clarke's philosophy, I fear we are fooked.

The only thing we can all hope is that we have a KPF lined up as a FA or a trade.

Tracking like Royce Hart up forward and a better ruck option than Tim English.

All praise be.
Keep trotting out the sarcasm SCOOP.

On a serious note if you cant see the potential in the kid then you need to take the blinkers off. I know he is not one of your 'boys' so its hard for you to dish out the compliments.

Lol, a key back as a forward and a forward who has been playing back in the VFL for the last six weeks. Sound logic.
Lol, i guess you are right, if they were once backmen there is no chance we would consider playing them as forwards.

I think he's an ok prospect. I think he's promising but I'm not buying into the hype that he is a certainty to make it.
