2023 mid-season rookie draft

Buller set for AFL debut after one game in the vfl and a contract extension
our recruiters ask but can he play HB  :bash
This is what they say
But Buller may just be one of those exceptions and it’s not surprising he’s at Sydney given that club has an astonishing habit of finding diamonds in the rough.
And we passed on him WTF!

To be fair, we have a pretty good record of finding diamonds in the rough too.

Still like the look of Coulthard, but I wouldn't have complained if we'd ended up with Buller rather than Tresize.

That being said, the mid season draft isn't exactly a happy hunting ground for KPFs for anyone. Most reliable way to get a good one is to buy one, and we should have a bit of cap space freeing up over the next few years.

Mids in the main draft unless there's a dead cert KPP that you just can't pass up at your pick, speculative role-players in the PSD and MSD, and free agency for everything else. This is the way.

As talls in the VFL we have Bradtke, Biggie, Miller and Bauer, while we have Lynch, Tarrant, Soldo, Gibcus (and Collina) out, and Jack, Ryan, Nank, Young, Balta, Grimes and Broad in the AFL.
The number of talls we have on our list isnt a problem. Quality could be.
LOL. Key forwards I was talking about. We have very little. Tarrant last legs, Collina lol, Jack last legs. You've listed rucks.

Key forwards , Lynch, Bradkte (long shot), Biggie yep, Miller maybe. Amount and quality.

Buller in has a lot to do with Swans losing Buddy and Heeney to injury this week.

They don't have other KPFs available.

Buller presented as a low risk stab, his versatility & thick set frame pretty much ideal for this type of pick. Grabbing another flanker seems at odds with the types who will be retiring next year and beyond. Not sure where our next tall will be coming from, I think our second rounder won't be high enough, might have to make some audacious trades to get the cattle we need.

We played Miller this week cause the cupboard was bare. Buller could easily play for us this week coming off five in the VFL.

Indeed, just saying he's not getting slotted into a stacked Swans forward set-up. I'm sure the Swans picked him up as cover for Buddy though so good luck to him, great opportunity.

I just don’t get overlooking him twice. Buller‘s WAFL form already makes me think he is a better chance to make it then Bradkte. So worth the punt.

Yep, hard to justify the selection of Trezise apart from it being a bit of a fairytale, him coming up from our VFL. If he showed more up forward, maybe, but he’s been dead quiet up forward in the VFL when he’s played there. Anywho, not much we can do now, just pray in 2024 Lynch is injury free!

the kid has not played yet and some people have labelled him a great player.

Let's see.

Nobody is expecting him to be the next Tony Lockett.

But he has proven himself at WAFL level and then dominated in the VFL

Meanwhile.we bring in Ben Miller that didn't stand out last week at VFL level.

Tbh I’m more confident that he ll get a chance than Coulthard who is tiny , tresize has some great qualities , strong mark , nice left foot kick , hope he benefits from being a FT footballer , needs to add some weight on . I couldn’t see coulthard for 12-18m , has plenty of skill so he too should be fit being in ft afl environment
