2023 mid-season rookie draft

Good grief. When will we learn.

You're taking blokes in the mid-season draft. They aren't going to be the finished article and all will have weaknesses.

In this instance he's never been in any junior program, missed his chance to show himself off due to covid, straight from the country footy to half a year in VFL. Untapped.

His competitiveness, athleticism, overhead ability and ability to find the ball are all AFL traits.

Just a little rough around the edges. But where he's come from you expect that.

Liked him pre-draft. Good selection.

I don’t care what draft it is, good foot skills should be an absolute pre-requisite.

You would hope Harry H is on the way. Even if he is, I’d still take Buller tonight.
All I can say is I'm going to very peed off if he makes it at the Ducks in a big way. Really not sure what's not to like about him. The thing is, we could have taken him first pick and Tresize was still there at our 2nd.
Surely worth the risk. Since we certainly haven't shown the confidence in the two Bs to try them at AFL level, why not try another? Can be a 6 mth contract.
Coulthard looks alright but another small forward won't stop our players, with their limited kicking skills, bombing it long time and again to opposition intercept markers.

In the last couple of weeks watching the games live I would say that in our forward half the two glaring weaknesses are the lack of a competitive tall and the lack of a crumbing small forward.

When the ball comes to ground we are not dangerous at all, we are slow and crying out for a good crumbing forward. Whether Coulthard is the answer, or we will be better with Moju back or maybe Campbell when he is fit, I have no idea.

But we really need a crumbing small forward

Everyone saying we’re desperate for a small forward.
What are Judson Clarke, Steeley Green and Seth Campbell?
Chopped liver?
Bolters?? Not only do we struggle at drafts, these blokes are now taking 'dart' selections. They really don't know what they are doing when it comes to drafting.

What did a tall forward do to Matt Clarke? What’s he got against them.. blokes useless, been lucky with a couple rookie picks but other than that not much to get excited about.

Small body of work.
Wonder how long they’ve been watching him and who flagged him for us? Perhaps it was Shane Edwards?
I’m still stunned by this selection

Measuring in at just 176cm and 69kg, Coulthard booted a match-defining four goals in the challenging conditions at X Convenience Oval.

It marks a stunning, sudden rise for the First Nations goalsneak, who only played six games for Port Noarlunga last year and five Reserves games for South Adelaide in 2021

Buller nominated an 18 month contract.

It is funny all the comments about who we should have taken based on such little knowledge.
I wonder how many on here have actually seen any of the talls play? or Coulthard? live, not just a highlight video on AFL.com. but yet as always certain people know better than the professionals.

Coulthard’s highlights on the Richmond site are impressive. Long arms, one touch, great skills and pace I like it.
And gets his own ball, unlike the highly touted Hansen who went to Norf. I knew nothing about the kid but I really, really like his highlights. Smart, quick, reads the play and is a beautiful kick.

Have to laugh at the thinking of some on here,a afl key forward needs rare talent or a elite trait to make it,the complainers need to go back and actually play on a successful key forward to just see first hand, how good they really are and that average talent gets killed at this level.
What have both riewoldts,Cameron, kings,Naughton, Lynch,Darling, and many many more got in common all were high draft picks.
You were going good until you included Darling in that list. He’s an oversized flanker and plays like one. He is a fraud of a footballer.

Interesting we’ve gone with 2 slr in Coulthard and Tresize who weren’t your experienced state league player but 2 relative Inexperienced state leaguers who were playing suburban footy last year. I guess the club sees the “development “ they’ve got left in them. Wish them both well.

Campbell still out injured 4-6 weeks.
Clarke has been the sub for a couple of games, maybe they don’t see him as a pure small forward
Green, dunno. How’s he been going in the vfl? What position does he play there?
Steely plays back pocket similar to Bakes. Clearly his understudy

The whole - player needs to have elite trait/s theory very nicely displayed. Not the greatest possession getter or strongest etc but what he does have is elite and a great foundation to build on.

We are developing a robot army of defenders who will ward of the ruskies when they invade. Historians will call it the ‘Clarke line’ where the tanks got turned as they tried to cross punt road.
