2023 mid-season rookie draft

Just on us not taking a tall forward.

The mid-season draft just doesn't throw up that talent. It's the hardest position on the ground where the most talented big men play.

These are the players taken that have has any impact at all:

Noble
Snelling
Pickett
Gardner
Newcombe
Peatling
Durham
McEntee
West
Culley
Menzie

With Ash Johnson, while a good player, is a 3rd tall at best being the only one resembling a key forward.

Tonight was never going to be the panacea or even going to anyway towards addressing our key forward woes at AFL level.

Tell that to Kinnear Beatson.

He'll have Buller lined up to try out as a key back.

But yeah Kinnear is very good.

On Coulthard, would have liked to see us go for someone for that role with more state league runs on the board ala Lablett. Someone like Shaun Mannagh.

Anyway, fingers crossed he goes well.

If Hunter and Buller go on to have some sort of impact I hope Clarke gets a tap on the shoulder.

Possibly, their first pick in the msd was a 24 year old KPD from Brisbane's twos. I guess they need as many as they can considering how dire their KPD depth is now with their starting KPD line all injured.

what about that guy who used to play for werribee that went to the cats and had a succesful career.
Pods, he wasnt a high draft pick, someone like that would have been handy.
Or Mihocek. I’d happily take a 30-40 goal a year key forward at this point

We don’t need a panacea. We just need an increase in options beyond Miller (useless) and Bradkte (injuries and diabetic) to maintain structure the next couple of years until we can get access to higher level quality via the Draft or FA.

We needed to use one of our 2 picks tonight on a KPF that facilitated options and time.

Buller might do ok at Sydney, I've seen similar players excel, Heath Grundy for one, then there's Hayden McLean, the SCG tailor made for this type.
I like Buller next to Logan McDonald, good pairing.

Sydney with a plan post Buddy, even if it fails, it’s a plan.

Disagree, none taken so you can’t tell if it works or not.

Would rather fail at this with Buller than take another flanker.
