2023 Draft Thread.

The next Ben Griffiths or Peter Wright?

Worth a look.

I'd say he's probably just as good a shot at making it as a ruckman, that makes him a nice each way bet. Just need to watch the endurance, he'll need to be a good runner.

There's also William Green, more a pure ruck but he's around the same height. I think it's ok to trade Soldo if we're bringing in a replacement, Biggie also out the door by the looks of things.

Read some of the details about the kid. Just gotta laugh at some of the expert opinion though.
Analysis, improvements. Physicality, consistency. The kid's a 203cm bean pole who's only just turned 19 a couple of weeks ago, these sized kids are renowned for playing footy like the hulking brick shithouse size junior mid fielders.
Bloody big pelican would spend half his games with arms n legs flapping around in all directions trying to figure out where the ends of them were so he didn't fall over n face plant.
Apart from the top one or two certainties, everything is about what they can potentially be like in three to five years time.

WA TALL ON THE RISE

WEST Australian tall Zane Zakostelsky looms as a possible top-30 contender as clubs continue to scour the market for key-position options in this year's draft.

Zakostelsky was named best on ground in Claremont's under-18 colts Grand Final win over Perth last weekend, gathering 22 disposals and having 18 hitouts.

The 17-year-old has played as a ruckman at that level through this season but shapes as a key defensive option for AFL clubs given his 196cm frame.

Zakostelsky, who has a background in basketball and athletics, will next week test at the AFL Draft Combine in Melbourne, where he is expected to be a standout performer and further push his draft case.

His endurance and speed combination has impressed, having ran the 20-metre sprint in 2.85 seconds at WA's under-18 testing earlier this year. Some clubs believe he could break into the top 30 draftees by November given his attributes.

He sounds great. Like that he has a basketball background. Really helps with peripheral vision, footwork in traffic, etc.

Say, did you know Pendlebury used to play basketball....

Whatever happened to Bob?
As others said, he's had some turbulence in the past.
I told him about new ownership and he came back for a bit, not sure if he lurks. Think family life and Newcastle United in the Premier League are consuming his time.
He's definitely a Tiger at heart still.

I think he still posts on BF.
I always enjoyed his insights

Saw some pretty amazing athletic data the other day;

Jed Walter, who is Richo sized, sprints on a footy field at 35km/hr.

Hes like a giant, snakey, bobby hill 😳

I feel like it’s 2004 all over again.

Deledio (Reid) v Buddy (Walter).

It’s just a pity these minnow clubs get the spoils.

I have no idea what he does at AFL level, I can't wait to see him out there.

Excitement machine and the perfect fit next to King.

Bobby hill maxed at 34.5km/hr in the GF.

When Jed propels his huge frame over the turf, you want to rub your eyes - it doesnt quite compute.

I knew he was quick, but the 35km/hr still shocked me

Reece McKenzie was also quick, it's not always a guarantee of success, but Jed does seem to have all the tools.

Yes jed has all the tools, but theres no guarentees.

I dont see him as the next buddy,

But a very tantaliing prospect with a rare athletic profile and competitiveness that gives him a very high chance of succeeding at AFL level.

I hope jacob kositchke, who ive never seen play, is better

Where’s this Cadman thing coming from ?
Remember the rule is must use 2 first round picks in a 4 year cycle so in 2024 ,it's 2021used 2, 2022 used 0, 2023 used 0, 2024 doesn't matter as we have used 2 first round picks in 4 years already.

Coulthard a long shot still despite showing a bit,
Clarke is a real player, needs to take a big step next year tho. Had 16 games and 11 goals this year, hope he plays 20 games and has 20 goals.
Seth Cambell hasn't played a game.

We have one quality prospect. We need more.
And likely by end of 2024,to include. Gibcus,Brown,or sonsie etc.

Schoey has a left boot like Luke Hodge, and he's a big lump of a lad, but does he win enough of his own ball? And if not, is he quick enough to be an outside player? Could you turn him into a CHB? He's not the best overhead from what I've seen but you can improve that. Could you turn him into a Steven May?

Slow.
