We have late picks, this kid could be best five in the draft if it all clicks.

Shallow draft, weak draft, swing for the fences. Bullus & I both would take the punt.

Does he last to our pick?

I am all in. Nothing to lose.

I'd be really excited if Tigers took a punt on him,

And also not slightly surprised if hes playing SANFL reserves next year.

Was clearly an exciting prospect in 2022,

And clearly not in 2023.

If hes picked, someone thinks there is a reason for the downturn that can be turned around,

So youde get at least 12 months of excitement? Maybe 15 years?

You have to speculate on a footy list

Reckon it’s close but he’s gone between 20-30.

If he goes early second round, youde expect it would be crows and i'd wiff a rat.

I see him as a bit Jed Hagan, who was AA 2017-2022, and SANFL ressies in 2023.

I was super bullish on Hagan, but very wrong.

hagan clearly peaked as a 17 yo and went AA at 18 on reputation.

Not even Moirs reputation could get him any kudos in his draft year.

But, yeah, weve taken worse punts

Its a stretch Aces; Shai did absurd things at the champs, whereas Moir did almost nothing.

Maybe theres a good excuse?

More likely hes just the another kid who will make $500k playing VFL for 3 years

The old saying 'you dont lose talent' is true,

But so is 'if you dont get any better while everyone else does, everyone else will be better than you'

Another who comes to mind is Jez McLennan, super composed as a junior, couldn't believe he was such a flop. Even those bankable types can make a fool of you. Moir isn't without risk but his kicking is way too good to ignore, he's a better kick than Bolton who as a junior had a really loopy kicking action, way too much hang time but ultimately fixable in an AFL environment. If Moir has some decent athletic data to go with his elite kicking then he's worth a roll of the dice. His SANFL reserves form solid without being scintillating but he did kick 4.3 earlier in the season and finished pretty well with 15 & 16 disposal games in round 14 & 15. I think the big question here would be attitude - work ethic and second efforts, does he have the mongrel needed to succeed at the top level, this is perhaps another Keeler case, risky but you could wind up looking like a genius if he lifts the intensity to AFL standard.

Yes

Consistent mongrel, or competitivness, is a trait you either have or you dont.

You can see it quite clearly when its there,

But you cant clearly see when its not there

And you cant measure it.

There are indicators; Tackle count, Contested possessions, Goals kicked to put a side in front late.

We need a Nathan Cleary test developed.

Its a very important part of taking the final step to the highest level

Shai Bolton dominated the national championships and the futures game at Punt Rd. And was the youngest bloke in the draft.

Moir is talented but what is he? A low-possession 188cm marking forward who kicks like Leon Cameron? (The kicking is ridiculous. I've never seen someone kick set shot drop punts on either foot depending on the angle. I think he's slightly a lefty but both wings look natural, fluid and lace-out.)

There's talk he's had a hip injury, so he might have been nursing himself if you want to give him an out. Supposedly of good character.

He's bloody hard to fit into a mould. I reckon he can be a bigger much better Cody Weightman or forward Harley Bennell for a racial profile.

Yeah that'd slow you down -

but if im his manager or his parent, and hes touted No.1 in 2022, with a hip injury in 2023,

I insist he rests for the year?

If we introduced an NFL type punting role,

Yeah you take him in the top 10 for sure.

Absurd legs

Another Wirrapunda type?

The best back pocket player in draft history.

Whats peoples thoughts on how many picks we take.

I'm thinking (unless something dramatic changes), that we might only take 1 live pick to the draft and promote rookies with the other 2.

We don't have many list spots (3, possibly 4 if we delist Biggie) but then we are linked with Kosi, Harmes, Newchurch, Sinn / Duursma if Soldo leaves. It doesn't leave many spots for new draftees. Will we even take Naish? I'd have thought it was a no-brainer as a rookie but I'm not sure.
We shouldn’t be thinking about Port cast offs for Soldo.
He is our player and we should keep him unless their future 1st, or possibly in a three way trade, Adelaide’s pick 9, comes to us.

The running ability will tell a tale, a good speed/endurance combo could push him further up the ground, he's very good overhead so I wouldn't even rule out a rebounder role.

How many times has lil Kim won the Tour d’France?
Didn't know Kimmy rode a pushy, but I hear he's a whizz at golf. Led to believe he got around an 18 hole course in about 12 or 13 strokes.
