2023 Draft Thread.

192 isn't really a tall. Allen is ruck-height. I'm not anti-Morris, but he hasn't convinced me, not a smooth mover. If he was another 4 or 5cm taller it wouldn't worry me.
Allen was 192cm when drafted, grew 4cm and is now comfortably KP height. That's not to suggest Morris will grow at all but it gives you an idea as to why Allen slid down the order. Morris will need some decent running numbers to go with the marking ability, if we're talking upside then Jack Darling would probably be the benchmark.

No were near a bradtke scenario ,ZZ played in the champs and did some nice things.
He is a bit raw,but nothing a year in the VFL can't fix ,looks to have quite a bit of upside.
If you didn't take notice of some of the WAFL/SANFL Performances, there would be very few recruited from those states...

So would l,but if ZZ is still there at any of our other picks,he would have to be considered.
If Stevens was still at our pick,it would be hard to overlook him,he will be a early starter, and can play back or forward, could even become a wing man .
I think Stevens and Freijah will be gone and probably Morris, and to me l think Lachie Charleson would have to be considered, good skills ,doesn't mind the hard stuff, good over head for his height, can play mid,or as a small forward.
Agreed…..
Stevens is a serious player who will play Mid but can play the Flossy role… I’d take in 20’s

Freijah ….. maybe too outside?!

Lachie Charleson is a good kick at goal and puts his head in the hole unlike some small forwards/ mids…. Late/Rookie as mentioned previously….

Wouldn’t mind Ian’s son from Tassie either though.

Regards,
Stan

I like Callinan as well. He is competitive and uses it well. He has had to overcome some challenges too with his dad having a serious stroke as a young man.

No not flossy role,l think Trezise has got that, and Stevens is a very good mid ,l was thinking Stevens could pinch hit as a forward or back,he could even play wing,he's not real quick, but either is ross....
Freijah Outside,,you have been reading too many comments on the net ,,He has played mainly as a wing for the rebels ,and yes he is a bit outside, and a receiver ,he can get his own ball ,the other thing is you have Stevens /Lalor/Charleson /Hannaford being the inside types,so he plays more outside through coaches orders.
His best is very very good .

Charleson played a lot of football earlier in the year more as a mid ,and is quite good,he uses the ball really well out of the clearances, and does the hard stuff,tackles/pressure.,and as you know is a dangerous small forward, kicking 8 goals in a match isn't chicken feed .

Just noticed all the experts are tipping us for bottom 4 next year. It would make it easier to swap Gold Coast pick 4 for our future first. Surely we won't drop any further than that.
Then try to swap Ports first next year for Soldo even if we have to throw in a bit extra.

If Pick 4 was on the table, you'd have to consider it. It will either end up Pick 5 or 6, but should get Sanders, Duursma or Watson.

To all those in the know, are they good enough to give up a future pick (risk and reward that 1 we get worse, or 2 we improve).

If it's true we're after Cadman next year (hopefully it is), then next year's first would have to be part of that trade. Unless - we don't have it. Trading it for GC's pick this year would satisfy the requirement to use X first-rounders every Y years that the AFL has in place. I think I'm right in saying it would allow us to trade a future first next year, say for Cadman. We just wouldn't be allowed to trade a first-rounder for the next two years after that, i.e. 2025/26. Unless we were Geelong.

Those three are worth it, Caddy next tier down.

Fair effort by this 16 year old:

“Outgoing Ormond president Richard Simon calls it “an extraordinary result’’.
Departing Monders senior coach Greg Hoskin says it’s “unheard of’’.

But football might be hearing more of Luke Kennedy.

At 16, and playing in the third highest grade of the Victorian Amateur Football Association, Kennedy was the club’s senior best and fairest this year.

The McKinnon Secondary College student polled 68 votes from 10 games to defeat his brother Rhys, 19, by five votes.

Kennedy also played four matches as a bottom-ager for the premiership-winning Sandringham Dragons in the Coates Talent League, averaging 13.8 possessions and seven tackles.

When he made his debut for Ormond last year he was the youngest player to appear at senior level for the club.

And he is comfortably the youngest to have taken its top trophy.

“For someone to win a senior best and fairest at the age of 16, that’s unheard of, I reckon,’’ Hoskin says.

“When we put him up for a few games last year, we did have a chat along the lines of, ‘Is he too young, is he ready?’

“But when they’re really good like he is, they know how to protect themselves. He’s a fairly mature kid. And to be honest there’s not a lot of intimidating stuff that goes on these days.’’

Hoskin is confident the midfielder will hold down a position in the Dragons’ team next year.

“He’s a very good player. I’m surprised he wasn’t able to get more of a game this year, to be honest,’’ he says.

“He more than holds his own in the contested stuff at senior level. Good skills, good kick, good decision-maker, covers the ground, he’s a good athlete, he’s reasonably quick without being lightning-fast.

“As I said, I’d be surprised if he’s not playing some pretty good Coates Talent League footy next year.’’

The Ormond presentation night almost turned into a Kennedy family tribute.

Paul Kennedy, the father of Luke and Rhys, was named best club person in recognition of his work in strengthening and conditioning the players.“

Where’s this Cadman thing coming from ?

We’ve got Coulthard, Judson Clarke and Seth Cambell all looking like they can develop into neat small forwards.
Do we need another?
What we don’t have is a specialist high marking half forward with a penetrating kick.
They’re not easy to find but worth their weight in gold.

Beyond Morris who do you take? If it's purely needs based then a player like ZZ will take extra time, if Ratugolea is any guide one could be waiting 6 years.
