2023 Draft Thread.

Mate of mine’s son, Liam George from the Eastern Ranges has been invited down to train with RFC starting late October.
Half forward/winger type.
His dad played plenty of games for St Kilda Reserves. One mean mother of a bloke. Imagine his son would be tough too.

Next year's depth of quality is far superior than this year's ,and IF Geelong are planning to trade there first pick, which l haven't heard anything about,it would show they don't consider the quality that good .
Pick 7 is not a *smile* pick, but pick 18 next year might be equivalent.
Caddy probably drafted after Allen and Van Rooyen, I think those two had more runs on the board. The difference between Caddy & Morris isn't massive either, at least at current measurements. The upside with Caddy will come with the extra few centimetres, that takes him into that Jesse Hogan range and I reckon he'll bulk up in a similar manner, playing a bit deeper and more as a power forward. Hogan has a bit of x-factor which I haven't seen as much from Caddy, I'm wondering how many legit avenues he has to goal. I'm also a bit wary about his speed off the mark, I realise Jack wasn't explosive but he always had street smarts.

Zane Zakostelsky, 196cm from Claremont. Won the Colts Norm Smith with 22 disposals playing in the ruck. Shapes as a backman. 2.85 over 20m. Yet to turn 18.

Physically he has it in spades. In terms of natural footballer it's a massive no. Boom or bust. Reminds me of Sam Frost. Horrible kick and decision-maker on that clip. In this draft he will go between 30-50 and he is probably worth the punt cause you got to pick someone but there's more an indication of this draft then the kid. Pass.

I haven't seen much of ZZ but it sounds like another Bradtke scenario, Morris has decent skills to go with his marking. I'd also be wary about placing too much emphasis on WAFL performances.

Parker was killing it in the wafl.
Wafl not that good anymore.
My interest is on the magic best of the best mids the 20 pocession 1 gl per match or better, that's guys like bartlett, nathews, danger, dusty garry Wilson etc so a 28 dis with just under a gl a match is super rare

I'd take Morris easily over the two if they are on the board at 35. Give me the proven performance at TAC and State level over late WAFL form.

No were near a bradtke scenario ,ZZ played in the champs and did some nice things.
He is a bit raw,but nothing a year in the VFL can't fix ,looks to have quite a bit of upside.
If you didn't take notice of some of the WAFL/SANFL Performances, there would be very few recruited from those states...

So would l,but if ZZ is still there at any of our other picks,he would have to be considered.
If Stevens was still at our pick,it would be hard to overlook him,he will be a early starter, and can play back or forward, could even become a wing man .
I think Stevens and Freijah will be gone and probably Morris, and to me l think Lachie Charleson would have to be considered, good skills ,doesn't mind the hard stuff, good over head for his height, can play mid,or as a small forward.

The big thing about the Lakers & Dimma is they built their style around a once in a lifetime player (Magic & Dusty) and got the right style and players to build around the existing strengths.

Oozball is in the setup stage, he can set his style and then bring in players to make it tick. We will learn a bit from the draft & trade but until we see them in a competitive environment against the bad guys we won't know for sure.
plus when showtime-fast breaking-broke down- they had a 6 time MVP and league's all time leading scorer until recently passed by Le Bron as a half court fallback option with the most famous shot in basketball being the skyhook-nice!

This is a tricky area to nail a tall, Morris probably represents the most likely type to succeed given he has a clear weapon. If ZZ has skills that need tidying up then he falls into that Elton category of high risk. It can work out, Ratugolea was a wretched kick too and now he's about to get the paycheck of a lifetime.

Bobby Hill & Jamie Elliot, Charlie Cameron, Linc McCarthy, Zac Bailey.

Besides Shai Bolton, none of our small forwards get close to these five.

Nick Watson is not an option for us. Jack Callinan is.

Reckon Watson could've played on Saturday and not been out of place.

I'm a big fan of Callinan, big fan, I kept reading he was Crows F/S, but just looked it up and his dad Ian only played 30 games. I'm excited now!

I think he's a reasonable shot at being on the board at our pick and fits what we need. I want to see his 20m results. But the body of works at the champs was pretty good.

For a draft such as this targeting a small forward would appear to be hitting the right notes, less risk, instant impact and some chance to secure an elite talent.

Whilst Morris turns into another Oscar Allen?
No thanks, I’m taking the punt.
We’re that desperate for a tall.

I take Morris too but I don't take ZZ with that pick, with our second rounder now blowing out to the thirties we'll have to get creative.

192 isn't really a tall. Allen is ruck-height. I'm not anti-Morris, but he hasn't convinced me, not a smooth mover. If he was another 4 or 5cm taller it wouldn't worry me.

There are no available tall forwards in this draft, they are either off limits or mediums.
