Every draft has its own characteristics, 2021 was seen as average at the time, that has proven to be wrong with A grade talent drifting out into the second round. 2005 was spoken about in similar terms, it was seen as a wildly speculative draft of athletes and flankers and one which should be traded out of in preparation for the 2006 draft. History shows it was a bumper crop and better than 2006. Last year I felt there was good depth with key position stocks, having players like Keeler, Knobel, Lemmey, Foster, Scully & Verrall available in the third round not a typical year. Some of these players will be busts but there will be others who kick on and make certain recruiters look like visionaries.
Next year's depth of quality is far superior than this year's ,and IF Geelong are planning to trade there first pick, which l haven't heard anything about,it would show they don't consider the quality that good .
Pick 7 is not a *smile* pick, but pick 18 next year might be equivalent.

Where was this reported?

I wonder what it would take to get that pick out of Geelong? Straight swap with our future first?
Word on the street.
That pick right in the Caddy zone, too late for Duursma, Watson & Sanders. The next question I'd ask is the difference between Caddy & Morris worth the cost of moving up?
Reading between the lines I think we are super keen to get Caddy to Punt Road.

Bingo. This draft is a real test of our ability to judge a pool of talent.

Last time we traded out with Geelong, they went and got Max Holmes in a shocking draft. Absolutely nailed it.

But now Geelong wants to trade out. Huge buyer beware signal. Geelong is in a similar situation to ours.

If you were given the option of trading out next years first round pick for pick 7 and it netted us Caddy, would you do it?

I think early in this draft their is high talent,Reid,Mckercher,Walter, and even Duursma and Curtin, but after that it's quite debatable .
I know Read has his admirers on here, but l don't think he's the best ruck man ,and l haven't seen him playing in any other position.
O'Sullivan should have a decent AFL career ,but his form or more to the point his effectiveness down back really dropped after the champs.

I think a lot of these player's touted as first rounders ,you would would get in a second round in a good draft year.
If l was Richmond l would be trying to get picks for next year.

I'd so no. You will have to overpay to get pick 7 which becomes pick 8. The pricing is too high. I wouldn't pay a 1st and a 2nd for Caddy.

I've said the same thing all year. It's really good first 10. But after that it's dead even.

Careful, Read, jumps tall buildings in a single bound.

Plus, there’s every chance we drop a bit further next year I reckon.

Really like the look of this kid. Tall, fast, agile, natural footballer.

Id pay a kings ransom for wizard watson as well
I wouldn’t, he is a great little player but I see him as icing, we need to build the cake again with top notch on ballers and key position players first.

Yeah a reasonable pov.

I reckon Watson is a freak and could be as good as toby green,

But theres risk at the height.

Its gonna be interesting to see if theres a noticable Yze influence on this draft.

Im watching 'winning time' LA Lakers on Binge at the moment.

'showtime' basketball had a lot in common with dimmas chaos.

Cant wait to see Oozball

The big thing about the Lakers & Dimma is they built their style around a once in a lifetime player (Magic & Dusty) and got the right style and players to build around the existing strengths.

Oozball is in the setup stage, he can set his style and then bring in players to make it tick. We will learn a bit from the draft & trade but until we see them in a competitive environment against the bad guys we won't know for sure.

WA TALL ON THE RISE

WEST Australian tall Zane Zakostelsky looms as a possible top-30 contender as clubs continue to scour the market for key-position options in this year's draft.

Zakostelsky was named best on ground in Claremont's under-18 colts Grand Final win over Perth last weekend, gathering 22 disposals and having 18 hitouts.

The 17-year-old has played as a ruckman at that level through this season but shapes as a key defensive option for AFL clubs given his 196cm frame.

Zakostelsky, who has a background in basketball and athletics, will next week test at the AFL Draft Combine in Melbourne, where he is expected to be a standout performer and further push his draft case.

His endurance and speed combination has impressed, having ran the 20-metre sprint in 2.85 seconds at WA's under-18 testing earlier this year. Some clubs believe he could break into the top 30 draftees by November given his attributes.

Morris versus ZZ Top? On one hand you have one of the best contested marks in the pool and on the other you have an athletic freak who looks like a genuine key position prospect. What's the consensus here?

These days, psychological testing will seperate them.
All about character as Yze alluded to.
Athleticism doesn’t hurt either!!
