2023 Draft Thread.

Sounds like that kid Geelong drafted a couple of years ago, Constable.
Got the ball easy enough but too slow and no damage.
Today's game (*thanks to us) is fast. You need speed and endurance

Richmond have circled forward-ruck Archer Reid – brother of Essendon’s Zach – if he makes it through to them in the second round, as part of their post-Jack Riewoldt plan and after trading Ivan Soldo. The Tigers are also linked with Jiath, Lual, running machine Aiden O’Driscoll and George Stevens. Stevens looks poised to find a home in the second round, with Essendon and Geelong also keen on him.

Don't have the numbers but he wasn't on the leaderboards.
With an ageing Prestia I would have no issue taking him with our second pick if he still on the board.

For our first I really want Logan Morris. But looks like we will be snapped up early in the draft.

Reid/Stevens. Others pass

He's not a terrible pick, as a footballer he's a better bet than Constable, Clarke or Hately, definitely a cut above those guys. Not sure you could fit Taranto, Hopper, Graham & Stevens in the one side, he would have to be viewed as an upgrade. The others are pretty good runners so he'll need to lift the endurance but he did pretty well in the VFL so couldn't be too far off.

Thats why I don't want him. I don't think he's a good fit for us, unless we know Graham is leaving next year (I think he's a FA).

I think I'm on my Pat Malone but I'd take Ollington over Morris. Both 190 med fwds, Logan probably the better mark, although Ollington might have shaded him in the stats, (I'd have to check that), Ollington quicker and more impact for me, particularly in the champs. But, as always, thyme will tell.

edit, Champs averages stats:
LM 11.8d 5.3m (2c) 1 i50 1 goal
HO 17.5d 5.5m (2c) 5.5 i50s 0.5 goals

pretty even. Morris played all 4 games for Metro while Ollington forced his way into the Allies for the last 2 games. The stats tell the tale really, LM your meat and potatoes lead-up fwd, good mark and set shot, HO more your med fwd, second efforts, gets on his bike, hence more i50s. Its not that I don't like Morris, I just don't think he's tall enough for the type of player that he is. He plays like a KF, but he's medium fwd height, which will get found out at the top level. HO plays like a medium fwd. Stats also pretty even in the Coates league, LM less disposals, but more goals. LM 30 v HO 20 for the season.

Ollington is finally starting to appear in phantom drafts at around 40-50. Has been completely invisible all year up until about the last week and a half or so.

A number of media reports on Archer Reid andor George Stevens.

Again I think its speculation combined with the club doing due diligence on all probables.
Hope its not who we draft, I'd prefer a Simpson-Freijah combo

Is Reid competitive enough?
Big forwards need a touch of mongrel and a lot of competitiveness.
He seems athletic enough but query the other requirements

Athletically he’s great for a guy that size, but I dunno if I’ve ever seen him take a game by the scruff of the neck ? Goes missing a lot. Ben Miller vibes.

Totally get us going with a KPF and why, but if it’s Reid, I think it’s gonna take a long time to see any impact from him. Probably prefer Mitts Morris to Rangy Reid.
