2023 Draft Thread.

Yeah I get it, either pumping up a player's ego or little side deals between clubs, but I don't agree with it. Bid where you think they sit. I reckon 1 is 80-20 Reid/ Walter, but 2 would be 80-20 Walter/ McK, maybe even 100 Walter.

It would be much more ruthless, and interesting, if the price of matching bids was higher, and the timing of bids actually had an impact on a clubs ability to get later players, and hence dominoes to fall differently, but the price is effectively 3 fifths of FA, so it doesn't.
The players picked 1-2 get a cash prize from NAB i believe so clubs don’t like to deny it to their pick.

Prima facie and on its own, thats fair enough, but in practice it is yet another draft compromising factor that the league hasn't thought through.

It raises some interesting questions, hypothetically if the system worked in the way its intended, clubs have last right of refusal on academy and F/S but they still have to pay a fair price, a club could not bid on a gun player so their boy gets the bonus, and that could have actual implications further down the line. At the moment it doesn't, or at least in the case of the Suns 2023, but in theory, its problematic market manipulation that could cause more trouble than its worth.

If the system wasn't as bigger farce as it currently is, its easy to see a scenario where Walter being bid on at 1 or 2 instead of 3, due to the bonus factor, could mean the difference between being able to get Rogers or Graham.

Totally agree.

Can’t stomach Melbourne having two early 1st round draft picks.
Don’t think I will bother watching tonight.
Makes me ill thinking about it
Tonight's watching teams noone gives a flying *smile* about during the season..
We get blasted for giving up 2 picks for Hopper but what's Freo's excuse??
I think Port tend to draft ok but clubs like Footscary and North destroy kids.
The pick up quality but by the end of it they destroy them.

I’ll enjoy it just the same, but tonight I’m only really interested in whether we can move up a bit (highly unlikely) and who’s left over going into tomorrow tonight where our first pick is concerned.

Otherwise I don’t really care too much about who gets drafted and in what order and to who tonight.

As expected GCS about to do a bunch of trades, but unfortunately we aren't 1 of them. I'm hoping Pick 26 might be an option for us. If we use 29, 65 and 68, we may only move up a couple of spots but it might just get us that player that we want. We won't be using the last 2 anyway, so they are worthless to us.

Hope so !

Geez how fukkn slow is the telecast.

Its almost as slow as Romper Room Nat Edwards completing a sentence.

Its getting worse every year the draft coverage the more they try and jazz it up.

Well there goes that idea. GC trading with everyone except us. So much for this “goodwill” will thing and them owing us.

Caleb Windsor a pick 7 value ? Wow. Don’t see it.

Adelaide trade into pick 8.

AFL can’t keep track and display all the trades. Amateur hour again.
