2023 Draft Thread.

I'll second those sentiments, Morris much more likely to succeed, even if it's as a Josh Battle type. I think Reid is in that tricky territory of being too tall for a key forward, these types need laser like kicking similar to Mason Cox in order to maximise opportunities, there won't be a lot at ground level so goal kicking conversion absolutely critical.
My issue bully is he's only 191cm not a true big key forward , but could get bigger ones he fills out.

How does he compare to Caddy?

How does he compare to Caddy?
Caddy is more agile but neither have explosive pace, Morris is the better contested mark at this stage but Caddy could improve with some extra centimetres. If I'm picking Caddy I'm hoping for something resembling Jesse Hogan, I think he's lost a bit of nimbleness since putting on weight so all the signs are pointing to a role deep in the forward line. As for Morris, I think what he lacks in athleticism he makes up for with street smarts, Darling, Membrey & Mihocek aren't super quick either but they have all carved out impressive careers. Morris has averaged 3 goals a game this year, that's a fractionally better return than Duursma, I also think there's some swingman potential, always good to have a plan B with these more speculative picks.

Pace? Leap? Not sure.
Pretty average.

Where Caddy is concerned, he’s been working with a specialist running-fitness & strength coach for a few months. What I saw of him about a week ago he seems to have improved his sprint and agility capabilities and overall athleticism. Think he’ll be ok on that front.

Morris however, he may have to rely a lot more on his hands (above his head).

The Launceston Footy club could have three first round selections in the draft in Colby McKercher, James Leake and Arie Schoenmaker. Its a decent effort from a relatively small football club. Mitch Thorp never lived up to being taken before Joel Selwood in the draft as a player but he has had great success as a coach in Tassie.

Cooper Simpson seems the ideal player we need.

An ideal draft would be trade up our 1st pick for a downgrade of our 2nd. Take Charlie Edwards with the 1st and Cooper Simpson with the 2nd. Makes a massive difference to our midfield group.

I don’t like the Charlie Edwards part of it, but I like the general strategy and Simpson part.

That is amazing. Also amazing is Palm Beach-Currumbin, Jed Walter, Ethan Read and Will Graham. Its like lightening has struck twice. I wonder if its ever happened before? I doubt its ever happened once let alone twice!

What don't you like about Edwards? Or do you think better players would be available?
He’s ok. He looks vanilla though to me. Maybe he’ll develop into something but I’m not sure he’s a genuine mid. Even the Dragons aren’t sure of his best spot with the thought it could still be HBF or wing. We’ve got enough HBF’s and wing isn’t as important as other areas we need to fill ie genuine mids and kpf’s.
