2023 Draft Thread.

So who are the players that posters DON'T want us to draft.

I'll start with 2: ZZ Top - I just don't really see it with him. George Stevens - Heavy and slow midfielder. Not really what we need with Hopper and Taranto in our midfield.
Archie Reid. He was compared to Rory Lobb.

Any players with suspect kicking are off the board for me, the only exception would be the ruck division but beyond that I'd avoid unless it's with a rookie pick.

Archie Roberts. Playing as a HBF because he can't get a midfield gig, has been questions around workrate which could explain that. In a draft where most players are bouncing around between pick 15 and 40, for some unknown reason he is ensconced at pick 20-ish, although he is a good kick. I wouldn't complain if we drafted him at 40, but I'd complain a bit at 30.

Archer Reid, As per Smoking above, has nothing at ground level. But I wouldn't be against him as a rookie.

I might be Archie-ist.

For me its about ratings rather than disliking players, mostly. these two are rated in the top 20 and 30, but for me they are third rounders

31. Archer Reid

Richmond

VIC Country/Gippsland Power

KEY FWD, 203cm, 94kg

House of Footy Ranking: 23

After a strong finish to the U18 National Championships, Reid somewhat struggled to reproduce his bottom age form this year, with the athletic tall looking a little short on confidence at times throughout the year.

The younger brother of Essendon’s Zach, Reid spent a large chunk of the season lining up as the main marking target in the forward half for Gippsland, as well as gaining some exposure in the ruck, where he was able to hold his own.

Standing at 203cm, Reid has proven to be quite mobile for his size, with clubs believing in his long term potential likely to call his name in the early stages of the second round.

In the Mix: In an ideal world, the Tigers find their long term Jack Riewoldt replacement. Other options include George Stevens, Luamon Lual and Koen Sanchez. The Tigers could entertain a move up the board, with Gold Coast’s trio of early second round selections likely to appeal to the club who could attempt to secure one of Koltyn Tholstrup or Lance Collard.

42. Joel Freijah

Richmond

VIC Country/GWV Rebels

WING, 190cm, 88kg

House of Footy Ranking: 53

Juggling time between the wing and the forward line, Freijah was a consistent performer for the Rebels throughout the Coates Talent League season, earning team of the year honours on the wing.

Providing outside run as a smooth mover with a good goal sense up forward, Freijah featured for Victoria Country at the U18 National Championships and has set himself up to be in the draft frame in the later stages of the event.

In the Mix: Koen Sanchez and George Stevens firm as options for Richmond if available, while Cooper Simpson, Logan Morris, Will Patton and Jack Callinan have all been monitored by the club. Luke Lloyd and Nathan Philactides could be late steals for the Tigers, while VFL member Mutaz El Nour earned himself a State Draft Combine invitation.

Thanks for the insight everyone. Great reading for those of us who have no idea on the juniors.
It may have been mentioned but are we likely to take Charlie Naish even as a rookie? Haven’t seen him mentioned at all

A cats supporter said we're in to him bigtime Logan Morris if he's there at our first pick.

I would have no issue with this.

Would rather Morris ahead of someone like Reid.

I'll second those sentiments, Morris much more likely to succeed, even if it's as a Josh Battle type. I think Reid is in that tricky territory of being too tall for a key forward, these types need laser like kicking similar to Mason Cox in order to maximise opportunities, there won't be a lot at ground level so goal kicking conversion absolutely critical.
