2021 Draft Thread

Think the club is prepared to back Ross, RCD, Dow and Martyn in the midfield. Soldo back will help our midfield and improve our clearances. Brown's a good pick coz he's got pace, can transition and has high efficiency by foot. More pace, transition and footskills is what we need with our remaining picks.
Do you think any of these 4 can develop into an A grade clearance winning on baller?

On Brown and taking a back flanker in the top 20....
Its a safe bet. Too safe.
Feel like we should have aimed for elite A class.
We've seen how important it is to have a well rounded team - but we've got that and can top it up each year.
But Superstars are also needed.

It was time for a high stakes pick.
Barry Gibcus gives us an elite defender.
We could've aimed for a starting centre square onballer.

Hope with our last pick its on the wildest small we can find - Ronny Fejo maybe?
i see it differently, best 3 defenders with class ,pace,wing/mid potential wwere sinn, chesser, brown, we took top 3 talent here whereby similar mids are still available in volume, asked a mate with geelong links as i live here ,cats were very keen on brown with one of their picks 22-23(24-25),and others have stated swans were also keen.

Clubs talking pick swaps, why Freo could slide down the draft board

Unless something creative gets designed, think we’re too far back in the order tonight to get anything done with Freo. If you look at the Port-Eagles exchange last night the Eagles only dropped back 2 spots. That’s the sort of drop range clubs seem comfortable with. 2-4. I think 7 will be a bit too far for Freo.

I think we’re gonna get stifled for the third time running this off season where trading picks is concerned although we might have other plans anyway.

Don’t think its that at all. A few clubs rated him top 10 so it’s just the way the cards fell. He’ll go very early tonight along with Goater and Butler.
I was inferring that if Freo pass on him with their next pick you can safely assume he isnt a universally accepted top 10 talent but agree it’s hard to rate players true position in the draft when they don’t get selected.
Sonsie and Sinn were supposedly similarly ranked but obviously not.
Unless we know each clubs entire rating system, the only way we’ll find out their true worth is by watching their careers unfold.

Was hoping we might snag Mac Andrew but that got blown out of the water when he was taken at pick 5.

Am now ecstatic we we able to secure Gibcus. He and Tarrant are great additions to our backline.

I’ve never really understood the “rank by talent alone” theory - how do you compare Hobbs vGibcus? Maybe the recruiters rank the players by talent by position type - so for our first pick it was a choice of #1 ranked defender vs 5th ranked mid and for the second it was #1 running defender v #6th ranked mid? This makes sense of the Tom brown-with-no-e selection. But when the pool shrinks (and there are say 30mids v 5 small forwards left), it will get trickier… some funky maths and a little magic dust required
hobbs 1 of 10 good mids available
gibcus best key defender with class.

DO we have enough list spots for three more players? If Cumberland is back on main list does this affect us? Or will we only take 2 and try and trade one out?

Subplot, Port traded up to get Sinn based on Essendon taking Sinn. Essendon moved into Hobbs, if Sinn is on the board for Essendon, I reckon we get Hobbs.

I would be gutted to watch my 2 preferred mids to be running around for the Bummers and Carlscum. Really want MacDonald. Wondering if we try and trade for their pick, or potentially even the Hawks 2nd (I also reckon they will take Sonsie with their 1st). They'd probably still get Howes at their pick as I don't think Carlton will take him so would get a free pick. Really think MacDonald is perfect for us.

I'd do 30 (as above assuming bids) and our 2nd next year for 28 and the Hawks 3rd next year. They may see that as a 10 or so upgrade and be happy with that.
Ummm no… I would only give up one of our 2nd rounders if a future 1st was offered

Every chance Sonz is on the board at our next pick. Hawks the only real threat. They could easily go Butler and Howes with their next 2.

I think the penny may have dropped in regard to the stand rule and that it is not going away.
Agree that we will go again for the above prototype, as it appears we did last night.

Expect that Fejo and Knivett may feature.

I wasn't happy we didn't pick up either Hobbs or Van Hooganband.
But my mate said 'HMS Gybrus willl be as good as Harry Talyor'
In a space of 12 seconds i forgot Hobbs and Van Hooganband even existed.

Agree on Johnson. Freo would;d know what there needs are and does say Bazzo or someone else fill a greater need Not necessarily a knock

lol..sorry but you haven’t got a clue what you’re talking about
whats the bet that Brown plays midfield? Some posters were conjecting on here that's the club's plan. I'm questioning that.

I'm OK with not having a clue, I didnt see us picking Brown or any hbf.
Lets see how it plays out.

Earlier they were tied to Goater too. But no surprise they went Hobbs

Bazzo reminds me of Barass from WC.
Off the topic WC just offered Barass a 6 yr deal. No caps in WA.
