2021 Draft Thread

I loved his interveiw. Cant put my finger on it, but seemed like a ripper kid who may end up best mates with Kmac.
He struck me as Dusty like.
Can’t wait to get started. Wants his footy to do the talking.

Wouldn’t surprise if he starts Round 1 v Carlton.

B Gibcus* Tarrant* Grimes Vice Captain,
HB Rioli D, Vlastuin Short
C Baker Martin Captain, Pickett
HF Edwards Balta Lambert
F Lynch Riewoldt Vice Captain, Stack
R Soldo Graham Prestia
I/C Bolton Broad Cotchin and Nankervis
Sub Collier-Dawkins
Em McIntosh, Miller and Ross.
Good luck Blues!

Definite potential for a 1000yard stare withthe right development.

The other one that could easily slide into those picks is Bazzo. Where does he go? Might Geelong or the hawks go with him. Bazzo and DGB could be their defence sorted for 10 years.
Haven't the Hawks got Sicily as part of their defence with DGB.

I'm on my own here, but don't reckon they will pick Sonsie either.

look forward to tonight .. no doubt more surprises as there's a bit more desperation ..

we will likely pick Richmond types, as we have with Gibcus and Brown

slightly unfashionable and individualistic misfits who can play footy better than most

I'm a bit flat so far. Gibcus wasn't my preference but can accept him as the best KPD in the draft. Brown worries me. He doesn't scream first rounder to me.

Seems like we are only going with two more picks. If so, I would be trading out 29 and 30 to get 21. Use that to take Johnson and then one of Sonsie, Butler, Knevitt or Sheldrick should be available at 27.

Assume we won't go Bazzo having got Gibcus.
As an opening gambit I think flying with the KPD first was as viable as any strategy, the other options were to grab JVR in the second or grab Dean with our last pick, I think this decision will hold up well in 5 years time. Pick 9 isn't the problem for me, pick 17 might cause a little anxiety seeing as though we've gone for a flanker, particularly if we lose access to Johnson, Sonsie, Butler, Goater & Howes. It's like watching Kasparov playing Deep Blue, convention and orthodoxy has been thrown out the window and I'm waiting for that leftfield piece of wizardry, a queen being sacrificed only to come up with the check mate move with next.

Do you think Johnson/Sonsie/MacDonald/Taylor can't be better than any of those 3?
Neither the Swans (who could do with a good midfielder or two given aging stars and loss of Dawson), or the Lions with their 2nd 1st rounder (again aging midfield stars like Zorko and a query on whether Neale sees out his years there), chose those 4 players.

The Swans went with a sub 180cm mid in Shedrick. The Lions chose a forward that many are deeming a reach.

I'm not judging the post or saying I know better - but clearly other clubs also passed on those 4 players.

It's a pretty simple equation for me, there's a bloke I have ranked at 5 who is sitting there so the Kangas pick is on the table, I push heaven & earth to get him. If it goes through then I'm very confident I have my 3 core players & can then throw a bit of caution to the wind with guys like Goater or Taylor down the list. This draft is still delicately poised, it has the hallmarks of greatness provided we close out the deal with some classy midfielders.
The only thing that worries me with Johnson now is both freo & wc overlooked him…. If freo keep their pick tonight and pass on him again then something is not right with him????

I'm rapt we got Gibcus, but agree with the rest :)
