2021 Draft Thread

People will laugh when I mention his name, but Shifter Sheahan has been banging on about Brown being a smokey for months. And he’s referenced what I mentioned earlier - capacity to be a hard running mid for a team that selects him ( he’s played there once or twice for Murray this year).

I got the feeling he really wanted Geelong to select him given their lack of pace and run, and his dad’s background.

shifter knows his stuff.

theres quite a bit of Nick Vlastuin about Our Tom in his reel.

On face value a bit disappointing. Gibcus pick is fine. I would have gone Hobbs but I can see the reasoning with Gibcus; looks a good player. But I really don’t get the need to draft a mid size defender in the first round. We’ve got a plethora of those. We have failed to address our most obvious and glaring deficiency, clearances and contested ball, with two first round draft picks. I think there are real concerns with our midfield. The guns that got us the flags are now past their peak and/or injured. The youngsters coming behind have question marks. Yet we select 2 defenders with first rounders. Confusing.

Anyway good luck to both boys. Hope they have very successful careers at RFC.

Surprised also with Brown, but I don't think he will be a bust so will be a good pickup but yeah agree midfield is a big weakness at the moment.

We probably should temper expectations until we see who our 4 or 5 draftees are as a collective.

I'd still be stoked to get MacDonald, reckon he will look a steal in a couple of years. Players that know where to be in centre square rotations and have the burst of pace to clear congestion are always valuable.

Both picks allow as flexibility with existing players on the list.

I’m surprised by the pick but I’m not at melts stage.

I’m more upset at Essendon making another super smart call in Hobbs.
I think that was dumb. They don't need Hobbs, their midfield is pretty stacked. Small forwards are a dire need for them.

Saying that, be tempting to hold all three of our picks and take the best of who is left.

What I like is the flexibility these two picks gives us. Gibcus could play down back but allow Balta to move forward and vice-versa.

Brown slots down back moving Stack to a far more damaging role up forward.

Think you got the wrong guy chief. I had a reasonable comment and made no such proclamations on our season ahead and certainly didnt throw the toys out of the cot.

Keep your childish comments about self harm to yourself thanks. I would expect much better than that from you and you should hold yourself to a higher standard.
You words "All well and good, but when we are getting creamed in the midfield even with our best players, this aint the path we needed to take."

What on earth does getting creamed in the midfield mean, if it ain't bad news?

I stand by the point that you've made a huge statement on our midfield, before you've even seen what it will look like next year. Going way to early.

If Hobbs was going to be the one guy that turns the midfield around from getting creamed to not being creamed (because we still have three picks but they're irrelevant from your statement) then we weren't going to be winning a flag next year anyway.

With Rioli, Stack and Mansell showing great signs in defence late in the season, and all being young, not sure we had a need for a small running defender. Hopefully he can transition into the midfield.

Very interesting last sentence on the club website “ at both ends of the ground.”

I’m in on the Gib. And his nickname is Barry.

Stack moves to the forward line.

I think Browns a great pick. We can trade him to Geelong in 10 or so years for their first pick of that year.
