2021 Draft Thread

On Gibcus, whilst everyone goes on about his leap, I’ve seen plenty of games for the Rebels where he’s also stood in the hole and copped it, and either taken the mark or at least brought it to ground and not let an opposition player take an easy mark.

That’s how we play down back at Richmond and one reason why we’ve had the best backline I’ve ever seen.

Vlaus, Grimes, Dave, Rance. We take the beating and we fill the hole.

I think there is a big chance of them picking Amiss at 8. They are desperate for a key forward and he is the best available. Then one of Erasmus or Johnson at 10.

If I’m Richmond I’m on the phone to Amiss manager regularly setting up interviews and requesting info and also telling him we are keen if he gets past Freo. Might just get Freo nervous enough to bite at 8
Looks like we played this strategy perfectly. Well done Tig's

Looking at the next block of picks, we pick 8-10 of the next group of picks.

If I was tipping where players go, I'd go.

21 - Freo - Johnson
22 - North - Motlop - reckon we could trade for this pick
23 - Hawthorn - Sonsie (this is why I think we should trade for Norths pick)
24 - Geelong - Knevitt
25 - Geelong - Conway
26 - Hawthorn
27 - Carlton
28-30 - Richmond

Hawks / Carlton could go for various players but lets say they go with Draper and Goater then there are some terrific picks there.

I've crossed out those which I think go in the next 5 picks. Plenty of good players on there. 3 mids or 2 mids and Bazzo would be great. I've been big on MacDonald for a while now, so would love to get him with one of those picks. Butler or Taylor and then Bazzo or Howes would be a really good return.

Reckon you’re pretty much right with these predictions. Unfortunately McDonald (who most fits our needs) has been heavily linked with Carlton and I reckon Hawthorn will go Howes. Butler, Goater and Taylor would then be good options for us, but I suspect we’ll trade one pick out and use another on someone like Soligo.

The ideal would probably be to get North’s 22 for two of our picks and a later one back and use it on Sonsie, then use our remaining 20’s pick on Butler and the later pick on Soligo.

You words "All well and good, but when we are getting creamed in the midfield even with our best players, this aint the path we needed to take."

What on earth does getting creamed in the midfield mean, if it ain't bad news?

I stand by the point that you've made a huge statement on our midfield, before you've even seen what it will look like next year. Going way to early.

If Hobbs was going to be the one guy that turns the midfield around from getting creamed to not being creamed (because we still have three picks but they're irrelevant from your statement) then we weren't going to be winning a flag next year anyway.

The only midfielders we haven't already found replacements for on potential are Trent and Dusty.

Picks 2 & 3.

I wouldn't expect the 4th or 5th best midfielders in a Covid draft to be in the same category myself.

We picked the #1 defender and a Richmond prototype, and we still have a surplus of 3 additional 2nd rounders in the bank (including next year's).

Next ten players (not including academy ones) could be:
Johnson, Sonsie, Goater, Draper, Taylor, Butler, McDonald, Bazzo, Knevitt, Howes.

Three of them and we’re doing pretty well. Conway and Motlop will probably be in that range too.
Not much wrong with that range of potential within reach of our next three picks. Obviously the club has different rankings and requirements to us punters and a heap of the media experts as well.
With three flags recently tucked away in the bank, I'm happy to trust the recruitment team have a fairly good idea of what they are doing.

Twomey has the best mail going around.

Tried telling folks on here that their luv for Sonsie and Taylor was misplaced. I got hounded off the board by Bullus and co for saying it though

Also on the record as saying Fahey and Brown right in the mix for our pick 17.

Called the Brown at 17 pick in early November.

Sonsie and Taylor spot on also. Hopefully Sonsie drops to our late 20s picks as he is value there.

Yep it also gives us enormous flexibility with two x young 195cm athletic gazelle's (Balta)

Really doubt both end up long term key backs. We'll trial them up the ground at times and one will switch forward ILO.

Yep. I suggested Fahey or Brown for our 2nd pick a month ago.

Very athletic and elite kick. He will be a gun.

Sydney were devastated to miss him and if Kinnear Beatson and Simon Dalrymple (picked the Bont and Macrae) who are the best going around rate u then thats good enough for me.
Agree. I rate Sydney's talent spotting.

Twomey, Knightmare and others all had Brown at around pick 18 - so we did not reach.

Profile: The son of Paul Brown, Tom does his best work as a line-breaking defender. He possesses great speed and agility, often running around opponents like they're traffic cones, while intercepting well and defensively holding his own.

He will be a good player, I love the pick. And Gibcus too.

I know we are desperate for mids, but it is what it is. You have to start somewhere.

I reckon things are delicately poised, you would hope we're working behind the scenes to get hold of Freo's pick, that will be Johnson no doubt. Hawthorn will take Sonsie, I'm pretty certain. That leaves Taylor. McDonald & Goater perhaps. I could live with that haul, I might be tempted to give it an A. Will it happen? Probably not but this draft has been highly unpredictable.

yeah think we'll have to trade to get one of Johnson or Sonsie.

27 and 28 should get it done you reckon?

then we take one of Mcdonald, butler, ronny,

would round out a very good haul.

My Ideal: Gibcus, Brown, Sonsie, McDonald + Rookie Ronny

Spot on Redmond, you're a good judge.

Stood in the hole versus Darcy a few times in the trial games and took the mark while being smashed. He has courage.

Tom Brown - plays on his toes, a bit like Sheds. I like his agility. I feel like he's a very safe bet as a draft pick. Solid footballer. Vlastuin vibes.

So much talent still on the board and three picks in a row to come. A combo of McDonald, Howes and one of Butler or Sonsie, and this draft haul is massive win.
