THREE CLUBS “PRETTY KEEN” ON ROOS FAN WHO WANTS TO PLAY LIKE TOM STEWART

With the National Draft now just one day away, Eastern Ranges defender Tyreece Leiu’s excitement is growing.

Leiu grew up a North Melbourne supporter and played a game for their VFL side this past season and therefore has a “soft spot” for the royal blue and white.

However, he will not allow his fandom to get in the way of an AFL career.

The South Belgrave product revealed the teams that have shown the most interest in the pre-draft process.

“I’ve had a few clubs like Richmond, Carlton and the Hawks that seem pretty keen,” he said on SEN Drive.

Possessing a 193cm and 91kg frame, Leiu has the ideal body to be a stalwart in any AFL backline.

When asked which defenders he pays close attention to, the youngster responded with little hesitation.

“Tom Stewart is definitely the main one that I try and play like, (I’ve) been watching him for a while now,” he said.

Leiu is confident that he is ready to make the leap to the elite level and has the requisite mentality to match up on the game’s biggest names.

“I feel like I’m at the physical level and have the right mindset that I could play against AFL players,” he said.

Like any potential draftee, Leiu has a close bond with his mother and revealed that she is very hopeful her son is selected by a Victorian club.

“Mum’s pretty nervous, she’s wanting me to stay in Victoria,” he added.

For now, his mum will be waiting with the rest of us to see where her boy lands.

The AFL Draft will kick off at 7pm (AEDT) on Wednesday 24 November.

RICHMOND national recruiting manager Matt Clarke says there are four players in line to be taken with its first selection at Wednesday night's NAB AFL Draft.

Clarke said the Tigers, who currently own pick No.7 which will likely be pushed out to No.9 following father-son bidding, would keep a simple strategy.

Speaking on AFL.com.au's NAB AFL Draft Countdown, Clarke agreed one of Josh Gibcus, Jye Amiss, Josh Ward or Ben Hobbs would likely become a Tiger.
I'm not sure it's as simple as that. He was asked specifically about those players and said they were around the mark. He didn't nominate those names per se (even though he probably will be picking from them anyway).

Yes I heard the interview live, and agree he reacted to Twomey and Beverige's words. They did quote that Clarke 'agreed' with the names.

Is there something to be said for playing as a third mid in a superior team though? Metro were smashing country.
Country won the first trial match, and player's from country where being rotated in different positions in both matches..
It's a pity we never got to see all teams playing in proper matches ,it might of sorted a few disagreements .

One thing about Hobbs that he does have to get out of his game is a propensity to be a bit demanding on his team mates to give him the ball. You will see him being a bit demonstrative at times - screaming with his hands out for a handball or short kick. The NAB League games this year I’ve seen him bake his team mates on a few occasions for not giving him the ball. One classic one v Sandringham in Ballarat where he went ballistic at Charlie Molan for not hand balling to him. It was way over the top.

Needs to get that out of his game.
That's a really bad sign to me. Of a big head; not a team player. Does he get more disposals because team-mates are intimidated into giving him the ball due to him being the 'star' player! Pure ego and disrespecting the right of his team-mates to select what they choose as best option to use the ball.

Going 'ballistic', 'demanding', 'screaming with his hands out for a handball or short kick.' Not my kind of player, not a Richmond man type. Prima donna.
Get your own ball and don't abuse your team-mates.

Communicate, win trust, but never abuse. I'd look elsewhere on this basis alone. Will not make it at AFL level with that kind of attitude and egotism.

Guy I reckon might represent good value for a club is Blake Howes. I know he’s on the radar of all clubs but if he went + 17 or so he might be a bargain in 2 or 3 years. Ticks a lot of boxes. Endurance and speed combo (rare especially for 190cm), reasonable kick. Can take a good mark. Good tackler. If his body fills out I wonder if he can’t play a dedicated on ball role.

Yeah he has some good traits doesn't he. Just wasn't sure what role he plays at AFL level. Would give the coaching staff plenty to work with talent wise for sure though.

one important atribute of a good inside player not measured but vital, is how stable they are when planted ready to distribute the ball, can see a elite trait here with hobbs.

Heh heh heh. Love your passion Sierra Leon but I don’t think you have to worry that much. It’s just an over eagerness at times. He wins his own ball, is a leader, popular by all accounts. Just needs to temper the will to contribute where interactions with his team mates are concerned. Just a tad.

sorry to insist but I am sure of this
Where did you get those numbers? Cotch missed the combine but these are his TAC testing numbers, it is quite feasible he ran quicker times in unofficial testing though, you can often see improvement if a kid has a growth spurt over the course of the year.

You got those Hobbs disposal efficiency numbers Bullus ? If you’re saying it’s poor it’d be good to see how poor.

Where abouts is he expected to go? Rookie? Maybe he's our replacement for Biggie?

must be sure we get him as a rookie. I hope this is the case

bully its a link to a club article

You are right Cotch didnt test at the draft camp, but I am sure he ran a 2.96, Point is not sure you can compare his speed and class to Hobbs

Cotch had a burst of speed, and completely dual sided, that is not Hobbs
