2021 Draft Thread

He’s a bizarre person. Tries to be purposely antagonistic to attract attention. Ignore.
He has 3 of the 4 I have been in favour of, (Erasmus, Johnson and Alleer) in the first 9!!
Hope he is wrong but know he is not so wrong as others think. Red man included.
Erasmus and Johnson should be our priorities, with our first pick and we should get one of these two.

Alleer is an extraordinary prospect. I have compared him with Buddy and while he is not anywhere near that at this point he has jumping and marking skills and upside, which give him every chance of becoming absolutely elite.
I doubt he gets to our second round cluster but you never know. Fejo more chance of being there and again we can only hope.

I take Chriss's rankings with a grain of salt. Lists one of Hobbs weaknesses as Agility lol

Shifter on Hobbs
Showcased his athleticism with an 80cm running vertical jump and 6 minutes 32 seconds for 2km at the NAB AFL Draft Combine in Bendigo for Victoria Country.
How does a running vertical jump or 2k time trial relate to agility?

Every time I see Hobbs speak he screams Richmond man.

Everything is pointing to him being the pick.

I’m locking it.

That's settled it then. If he's the #1 Richmond man there, then he's ours.

I wonder how long before we start hearing #CollingwoodMan or #EssendonMan

I am with you. Oozes leadership, fixes a missing part to our midfield mix and is ready to go as of Round 1.

Our next task is also getting Sonsie.

He probably won’t get drafted but I like Jack Hayes from Woodville West Torrens, great hands, versatile (switches between forward and back, sometimes ruck), averages a goal a game, 20 touches for a KP player and 7 marks. 25 going into ‘22.
I looked into Hayes. Is a big lug at the sanfl level but where does he play in AFL?
Not tall enough to ruck.
He could be a tall forward /2nd ruck but I suspect we want someone with more agility.... which is Samson

I'm not sold on his versatility, this comes down to his kicking which is probably comparable to Josh Kennedy of the Swans. I think it's midfield or bust but if he does make it then he will be a very difficult match up. I think his height will be beneficial as a resting forward & his speed and leap something which could cause some headaches.
A Josh Kennedy would be sweet with pick 28. But is he a contested beast or just a regular mid who stands out on the height chart?
If we also got Hobbs could we fit both in? Hmm.
I'm on the fence.

Dean is the best state league option in my opinion, his 7 intercepts a match is elite and his kicking is generally safe and assured. Pegoraro is another tall we could consider & I also like Tom Lewis who was I player I wanted in his draft year. Being the best under 23 South Australian indicates he's ready, his tank is also first class. Bailey Rogers is another worth considering, he won the Sandover and presents as a plug and play option if we're short on inside ball winners.
Tom Lewis wasn't he passed over in his draft year cos he was slow?

Could also have been a great interview, some others who are highly rated may not have. That tends to be a factor teams value very highly these days.

Not really slow, he won the state yo-yo test & he can run and carry on occasion. I think people probably thought he was too vanilla & not quite tall enough but he's proving to be a very efficient operator. I always liked his tenacity in tight, pretty good handballer who picks his options well, kicking good enough without being a standout feature. He's another who could potentially fill an inside role.

I'm not totally sold on him & that's another reason to go tall at pick 9. McDonald is the guy better suited around the twenties for Richmond.

So you think McDonald has a better career than Hobbs?
He has more weapons in my opinion but that doesn't necessarily guarantee success. McDonald is more suited to a run and carry game so his projection is higher, his kicking also way more penetrating. Hobbs is your classic safe as houses 100 gamer who may leap into the Taylor Adams realm where his leadership and hardness shines through. It's probably a good time to be an inside mid, their value at historical highs.

Splinters. Excellent political answer Bully.

I certainly prefer the value in McDonald, he's in a nice catchment area for a Dayne Beams type hit. That's why I think we can afford to go a little bit exotic with pick 9, even Rachele would add a little spice.

Surely Hobbs isn’t rated as a top 10 prospect only because he is a safe bet? Selling the kid way short.

Upside? Probably Callan Ward who is a very good player but not necessarily a headline act. That would be a good result nevertheless but I doubt whether Hobbs will be the best mid from this draft class.
