2014 Draft/2014 Nat Champs

He's been on the radar for a couple of years. This might set him back a bit

"NORWOOD is confident youngster Peter Bampton’s hopes of being drafted this year will not be hurt by his absence from the national under 18 championship.

Bampton will be sidelined for eight weeks because of ligament damage and his ankle will be in a moon boot for several weeks.

The midfielder landed awkwardly and rolled his ankle in the final quarter of the victory over Adelaide last Friday night and the Redlegs immediately suspected significant damage. The cure is rest and he could miss up to seven games, starting with tonight’s clash against Woodville-West Torrens at The Parade"

Huge blow. I still rate him. Being under everyone's nose is a issue. The industry picks apart that are around for multiple champs. See Jack Darling.

Thoughts on Blakely?

how are clem smith and jarred pickett going fellas?

Both mentioned highly from last weekend's SA v WA game.

Clem Smith was mentioned as a Byron Pickett clone.
Jarred Pickett is already a Pickett.

Another to get an honourable mention is the SA 193cm mobile CHF Burton, with 5 goals.

Any relation to Brett Burton?

From what I read Burton is next year. But huge wraps.

I'm a huge wrap for him Gussy.

Connor Blakely is going to bolt into the top 10.
I don't understand the lack of love for Bampton. He's everything we need from what I've seen. How's his skills usually?

I have one from WA that might fly under the radar. More about him somewhere down the track.
Ward was a pretty easy pick to be honest. I can recall a few on here saying he was a C grader but I don't think they had really seen him and simply read that others were ahead of him so marked him down the list.

I was really impressed with the guys on display today though. Some very athletic talls which a lot of clubs will be keen on.

Which players stood out for you?
Hardisty?

Me neither. SANFL form translates across to AFL. See Aish & Dunstan this year. I haven't seen him live to get a true read on him and won't cause he is out of the champs but I'll put the feelers out. I want to know about his pace and burst. From what I've been told his skills are excellent.

From the few times I've seen him he seems to have a decent burst out of a pack. He tended to handball a lot in the games I've seen so wasn't sure if it was maybe his foot skills.

Need to see more of Bampton but if we could sneak him in the second round, I would be delighted. The moon boot makes for some interesting weeks and his stock will rise and fall as the year goes on.

If its pace we want Jarrod Pickett is the man. Lewis Jetta pace but tries to win ball on the inside and take off from the contest instead of getting everything given to him. Is so light that he gets shoved off the ball if he doesn't get a perfect run at the contest but once on the outside, see ya later. And can kick at full pace. I like Gus Brayshaw but I don't hunk he can/will win a game in a ten minute burst. Pickett could in time.
Runs a 2.8 20 metre sprint, 7.83 agility test (Stephen Hill holds the record 7.7), 66 cm vertical.

This is from the under 16's in 2012. I have seen extra footage on top of this from more recent.

Where do you see Pickett going in the draft, Scoop?

Top 10. If he burns up the rest of the year, top 5.

Lot of talls will go early. Hard to call at this stage.

If we could snag him and trade for pace (Jeffy Garlett) it would change things dramatically.

I am a big fan of Pickett. I'd love to pick up Shannon Taylor too, will be watching the VFL-SANFL game with interest.

:hihi

thanks phanta.

Its sounds like real Pickett may be our man at this early stage??

Its implied the 193 Burton is indigenous? C'mon fellas, its important, spell it out loud and proud.

We gotta trade up into this draft big time. If we could go back in time to 2004 and grab the Ottens trade booty, and then bring it back to the modern days, we'd win the 2015 flag.

Was Brayshaw BOG again?

Best Metro player, and had highest disps for the match.
In the other game, J.Johansen appears to be BOG with highest disps.

Cheers.

Again Brayshaw putting his hand up to be the earliest mid drafted this year.
