Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

It's a lot to happen in a short few weeks though Dyer...off to rehab in Yankeeland, show the AFL he's a worthy candidate for their league, and I suspect he'd fail bringing the game into disrepute clauses, go to court, successfully defend a likely appeal, be interviewed by prospective teams and register by cutoff time for the draft.

More likely he is off to Yankeeland to catch up with his mate Chick.

Chick is over there with his missus and kid (she is a Yank)

* He is 29 years of age.
* Has started to get soft-tissue injuries, due to his age, and the amount of work he has done over the years.
* Has already won a Premiership, Brownlow, All-Australian, Rising Star, etc, etc....nothing left to prove, nothing to be hungry over.
* Could be a bad influence with our younger guys.

VOTE "NO" COUSINS!

Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

The ball is likely to be in the AFL's court, rosy. Ben's manager will nominate him for the PSD while he's away.

(On a side issue, if Cousins's contract has been voided maybe he can nominate for the ND. Could be all sorts of legal reasons that he won't do that. Dunno.)

But if the AFL bars him he'll sue. And it's not like Boofhead is renowned for his readiness to go to court. Anyway the decision on whether to defend might be out of his hands. The insurer will have a say. And the insurer might say if you don't register him we're not paying.

His last episode IMO is bugger all reason to deny him registration. He'll defend.

Ben Cousins is a known commodity. The warnings are on the package. Clubs know what they're in for. It's up to them if they don't want to hire him. And that might make a compelling argument in court.

First time this month we 100% agree :clap

They could have won 3 in a row, but drug use by key players has destroyed the core of the club.

Rather the Brisbane model of disipline and consequences than the look the other way approach of the West.

I did not see the lions punishing aker running off at the mouth when they were winning flags. What cost wc this years was not drugs but cousins doing his hammy in the first final, and then no cousins kerr and judd in the final against collingwood

Big difference between having a mouth and loving the nose candy.

Cousins was dumped the first time because the drug use was effecting his training and disipline around the club.

Aka was just a pain in the ass.

Doesn't he actually have to be guilty of something for the AFL to de-register him??

All charges were dropped.

Its a legal minefield for the AFL if they de-register him.
He still has 1 charge to deal with & I'd suspect he breached a clause in his agreement with WC & the AFL.

Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

The remaining charge relates to refusing to take a 'suitability to drive'/drug test.
Similar to refusing to take a breath test. It is likely he will be banned from driving for 6 months or more.
In Vic if he did it I think it is 2 years (not sure on that though).
Plenty of players have lost their licences before and been allowed to play on. They couldn't use it as a reason to disallow him to nominate for the draft.

Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

I think its the club that would make me say YES or NO.

If they think they can keep him in line, and if they think he won't have a negative effect on our young list then a HUGE YES.

if they don't than

NO

I'm happy to let the club decide this one. No being pissed off for me either way.

Both the Weagles and the AFL have publicly stated Cousins had strict clauses installed and although I am only guessing I suspect keeping on the right side of the law could well have been one. I think it fair to assume he would have had the test if he had nothing to hide. Not having it has left himself open to doubt by those who have the say over his future.

Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

Why would we bother?

Yeah, very good player and captain. But turns 30 next year and comes with a lot of baggage.

Pass.

Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

Age is the only problem for me.

Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

With all his problems and as a 29yo the answer's gotta be no. He could really do some damage among our young list.

Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

At first i said know.

But, there is nothing in the PSD!

Richards and Bradley are the only two i would consiter.

So i wouldnt mind getting Cousins now.

Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

After seeing what he has been through, do you really think he would influence the younger players to follow in his footsteps? I'd say a change of state and club could be difference. Yes from me.
I'm happy to take a risk on a player who can clearly play.

Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

Hmmm....im really suprised with some of the responses by certain ppl on here about this issue - extremely short sighted. Now as i work in the industry (and some of u are aware of this) ill just be careful....but to obnoxiously state - no he is a drug addict - really ticks me off. Certain players have been recruited to this club who have been guilty of far more than ben and were welcomed with open arms by certain PRE members yet cousins is copping it from the exact same ppl. Cousins got some seriously shabby treatment from the Perth press and police (in this case) last week - found with NO drugs on him and the best they can charge him with is a refusal to give a blood test - WOW.... If you think Ben Cousins is the only AFL player who would refuse a blood test at this time of yr (for certain reasons...) then ur seriously deluded. Wake up ppl...all this oh he will influence our younger player crap is just complete trash and those who think this have absolutley no idea of what happens at club level the case then its more of a reflection on how bad our club is and not on ben cousins. Yes BEn has done the wrong thing more than once - but the stick he has had to put up with in regards to the media and all the SPECULATION in his life is nothing short of histerically unbelievable. However i am not being short sighted myself -  I can definitely see the risk of employing someone with his issues  - its a huge risk - a risk with massive ramifications.... however this club is sitting last - Ben himself has achieved more than this club in 20yrs - do ppl forget why we are in this business in the first place??....he has a chance to redeem himself away from Perth in a new environment with new ppl and new processes...and to not give up anything for him - i say bring it on.

..plus Foley, Deledio, Coughlan, Cousins, Cotchin*....has a nice ring to it.

Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

as true as all that is 8ball, he's no spring chicken and we have foley anyway. Maybe a ruckman, even a delisted one, would be the long term view

if we could get richards, bradley etc. playing well at least we could trading them next year

if he was 24 i'd take him and his issues

I agree!! it was the combo of too old + baggage which makes it a no for me

I can't see the point, he will only play for 2 or 3 more years which is not enough to help our young side get where we want and long term would hurt more than help!

Yeah i can see the upside of that....thing is we are talking about Ben Cousins....its like giving up too much for Chris Judd - its Chris Judd!! These guys are absolute freaks...yeah he is probably on the wrong side of his career - but you know the quality of the man on field....he has always been a freak at getting his body in great nic....possibly 3 maybe 5 yrs service at no cost.... or a delisted ruckman...hmm yeah maybe give us some service...maybe be another Knobel, Ackland etc....thats a tough one...a risk....just like taking cousins.....very hard to pass up.....very hard.
