Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

Absolute no brainer YYYEEESSSS!!!
This is what clauses are all about in contracts. 1 breach, end of contract!

What the hell have we got to lose!! We've been last for 28 long bloody years!!

If he is able to remain true to his contract the upside is huge. If he doesnt we would have missed out on Frank Richards or whoever the hell he is from scumwood.

Drug taking? Not an issue.

I'd rather win a flag with 22 drug users than win another spoon with 22 'community leaders'.

Couldn't agree more JB.

Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

Or pick 67, which could be the next Nathan Foley.

Re: Ben Cousins threads and Poll [Merged]

The guy has lied to everyone at his club about his drug use and may have (MAY HAVE) fallen off the wagon recently.

Is this the kinda guy we want showing Lids and co the ropes? I know they can score coke, ice, or eccies all on their own, but they don't need Cousins mentoring them.

Cousins would be with us for 2 years tops because of his age, so not long enough to help with a premiership campaign.

On the otherhand, the off-field damage to our kids could be irrepairable. Lets not be the next WCE or the other club we cannot mention for legal reasons.

Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

For me its not a yes or no answer,

Who else is availible in the draft,

He is a class footballer, but he is not young .best years probebly behind him, and without trying to state the obvious, he has issues,

If he turns out to be the best choice, I would say yes.

Not a decision to be rushed at though.

Re: Ben Cousins threads and Poll [Merged]

"lets not be the west coast eagles" what!!!! I will take WC eagles last 5 years anytime!!!!

Re: Ben Cousins threads and Poll [Merged]

I think it's pretty harsh to be labeling Cousins as an out and out addict and leaving it at that. The guy has been mixing with the wrong crowd in Perth, so what better way to distance himself from that scene than moving to a whole different state? A change in culture may do him well.

I'd like to see him come to Richmond next year, I have no doubt that he can clean himself up and produce some quality football for us. He's from a winning culture, and that's exactly what we need at Tigerland; perhaps he can bring some of that to the club and help drill that mindset into the youngsters.

Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

If you get Cousins you lose Judd
Not good to lose too many of that type of solid citizen from the club.

You can all concentrate on Cousins but he aint going to be at the tigers next year, you are dreaming.

Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

Don't think anyone answered before. Has the AFL de-registered Cousins? If he's off o/s to a drug rehab clinic and he's unregistered he'd hardly be eligible for the draft. There's no way he'd be registered again until he could prove he's clean and reliable to the AFL. Don't foreget it's not only the drug issues, he's still facing court over refusing drug tests. Seems to me people are putting a lot of time and energy into a moot point. If he's been de-registered I don't expect Ben to be in the draft for anyone to take.

Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

Yeah he's been de-registered I think rosy so if he nominates the AFL have to approve his application for registration.

Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

Thanks Disco...can't see it happening then.

Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

He's technically deregistered by virtue of being delisted, rosy. According to Boofhead Domestos.

The AFL has to process an application and might reject it. That would go to court, you'd reckon and the AFL would be heavily exposed. The insurer would settle. Reality is he'll be re-registered IMO.

Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

Doesn't he actually have to be guilty of something for the AFL to de-register him??

All charges were dropped.

Its a legal minefield for the AFL if they de-register him.

Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

Cousins has not admitted he has a problem, the only comment we have is that he has a "substance use issue".

Apparently he has a major case of denial about his addiction, thinking all is cool and good in the world and we are over-reacting.

He also has never taken rehab seriously. Lindsay Lohan spent more time in rehab than she did.

Also lets look at the track record here:

1) Caught on cop wire taps talking to bad peoples. Cops show tapes to WCE coaches. Ben denies the conversation even happened, even though WCE keep saying "Ben, we heard the tapes?!?!?"

2) Asked by police for info on his last conversation with a bikie psycho before he was murdered. Ben refused to talk.

3) Ben sees a booze bus. Ben plays "run Benny run".

4) Ben is dumped by his club because his drug use is effecting training attendance and performance. Ben goes to Malibu for a month of rehab for a substance use issue.

5) Ben is busted and is asked to do a drug test by the cops. Refuses, and is pleading not guilty as his high priced legal gun plans to challenge the legality of the law.

Unlike on the ground, off-field Ben has a history of avoiding or denying any problem that comes his way. Does this sound like a guy who is rehabilitated and ready for a second chance?

If he was fair dinkum, cool, bring him on. But so far I don't see the signs. Let him snort his life away at CFC.

He looks pretty committed to come back to me.

They could have won 3 in a row, but drug use by key players has destroyed the core of the club.

Rather the Brisbane model of disipline and consequences than the look the other way approach of the West.

Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

It's a lot to happen in a short few weeks though Dyer...off to rehab in Yankeeland, show the AFL he's a worthy candidate for their league, and I suspect he'd fail bringing the game into disrepute clauses, go to court, successfully defend a likely appeal, be interviewed by prospective teams and register by cutoff time for the draft.

Friend dies and he falls off the wagon in days? Sounds like an addict to me in serious need of help and rehab

Only the possession of a drug charge was dropped. he's had his court case postponed for a couple (3?) months to allow him to go to Yankeeland for further rehab, but he still has a court appearance over his head, and I reckon it would put the AFL off re-registering him while the outcome is unknown.

He has been de-registered by the Weagles and that automatically means the AFL.

The Weagles said last week after ONE of the charges were dropped that they still had a right to deregister him in light of numerous RECENT events.

They were prepared for the possibility of Cousins taking them to court for wrongful dismissal.

They made the decision to sack him before he was found guilty because they believed that they had more than enough evidence for breach of his new contract conditions which was finalised after his first stint in rehab.

Despite Cousins lawyer making a song and dance about wrongful dismissal, so far the threats have amounted to nix.

What it says to me is that despite promises made to his club, he was unable to keep those promises.

Why should it be any different at Richmond?
