And chances are, he'll be out to prove a point to a few people. I'd rather that point was made on our behalf.

'Chances'? Risks more like it.

'Chances' are he'll fall off the wagon again or go by the wayside.
Perhaps pre season, perhaps rnd 1, perhaps on the verge of a finals series.

Will you be there when those directly involved at the club have to deal with it?
Apart from sponsors what other risks do we run?

Re: Ben Cousins threads and Poll [Merged]

Also, on ch7, he said hes training every day.

Now come on, talk about an on-field role model, he is perfect.

For gods sake.......we're getting an absolute champion for free!

Nothing is for free #7.

Cousins is a former champion.

He's now a 29yr old, disgraced, drug addict who's beginning to develop soft tissue injuries.

If you think he is going to lift us to a premiership cup you are kidding yourself.

Cousins is a quick fix. ;)

So your saying you'll take Richards over Cousins ?
Noone > Richards

Re: Ben Cousins threads and Poll [Merged]

Kingsley, Knobel, Ackland, Cousins. It isn't like we haven't wasted a pick before and there are standout options begging to play with Richmond.

Anyway I can see this thread rivalling the 100 page Judd thread. Might even get to Fevola territory thread-wise.

For what it's worth they played this extract of a seperate interview tonight with Cousins.

Reporter (Female I think): So how long do you expect to be gone Ben? A couple of months?

Cousins: Um... I will probably be required to be training before/by then.

......It could even reflect positively on us by giving him a second chance.

Our off field structure at the moment is pretty good. March and Wright both impress me and don't seem to suffer fools. And for all Miller's faults, I don't think he's a weak character - he a Wallace would handle Cousins ok.

And people say we have no leadership in the playing group. Maybe not on-field (Cousins would certainly help address this issue) but who really knows the dynamics inside the changeroom? Richo, Jonno, Simmonds, Browny and even Lids could be a fairly intimidating group to have to deal with.

I think we have the blokes to handle the situation. If they can't, then I don't necessarily think it will reflect badly on us. We could be seen as the club that was big enough (or stupid enough!) to give him a second chance, but he couldn't take it.

Re: Ben Cousins threads and Poll [Merged]

IMO we'd be better of taking someone like James Polkinghorne with a late pick in the National Draft if the best we can do in the PSD is Guy Richards or Ben Cousins. At least Miller would be able to tell his grandkids that he was the first person to ever pass with a #1 draft pick.

Where did I say that?

Agree Disco.

Well no one in the PSD is anywhere near Cousins' ability, so if your passing up Cousins well........id rather not have a PSD pick at all

Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

Ok here it is. Let's see how the majority feel. There are so many factors to take into account.
You may change your vote, that is why there is not a 'maybe' option.

Re: Cousins: The poll. Do you want the Tigers to draft Ben Cousins?

Can you put in another choice

Depends on who is available

BTW I voted no, big risk

I think you can assume if there were no other issues he would be far and away the best player available dave.
