Yep and in recognition of our big signing, maybe we can ditch the tiger skin and include yellow and black crack pipes in next years' membership packs.

Why not take a gamble on him?

Because it's destined for failure.

He is deregietered, won't be playing in 2008.The earliest he will be registered if at all will be 2009.Next.

Not advocating getting him BUT: Heard The Fonz on SEN say he is de-registered because he has been de-listed. If he wanted to go into the draft he would have to re-register and then it would be decided if he would be allowed to re-register at that time.

Well he should re-register then just for the sake of putting the wind up Fat Guts and Nerdo - the greatest buck passers and beaurocrats the game has ever seen. Geez that would make them squirm.

Correct. If he chose to nominate for the draft, the AFL Commission would then consider whether to register him for 2008 or not.

He sounds keen to play again.....we should be taking the best player available and if he's available we should take him.....I guess the AFL Commission will decide his future

"Arriving at Perth airport Cousins, dressed in a T-shirt, jeans and pointy snakeskin boots"...LMAO, journalists covering off on the important facts :hihi

Re: Ben Cousins threads and Poll [Merged]

I'll give you a few reasons not to take a gamble on him...

1) Far too big a risk as a bad influence on a list with a lot of kids with weak leadership

2) Stunts the development of a young midfielder for nothing more than a "top up" result. We want a young core group of midfielders gorwing up together.

3) If he fell apart and returned to his dubious off field habits, the effect on our club would be far greater than that on west coast considering we willingly took him on

In fact, I'm not going to bother going on...waste of time...move on...nothing to see here...PASS on Cousins thanks.

His a champion player sure, but his potential price is far too high

Re: Ben Cousins threads and Poll [Merged]

He wants to be training again soon, means he will be wanting to play in 08.
So if he is allowed, we may have 1st shot at him that is if WC still dont want him.
What will we decide to do?

Re: Ben Cousins threads and Poll [Merged]

WC don't want him back, He is de-listed, even if they did they would have to draft him back.

Re: Ben Cousins threads and Poll [Merged]

Imagine the possibilities of a centre line created from -

Cousins, Cotchin, Foley, Deledio, Tuck, Tambling,Cogs, Meyer and Johnson.

Granted - Meyer is stretching it but if the potential is in fact there it could well be exumed via the performance of the above mentioned.
Foley - Enough said.
Cotchin - Untried but by all reports- The Right Stuff.
Cogs - Hopefully will be back to 110%
Lids - May be provided the spark that takes him to Eliteness.
Tuck - Toughness and Grunt.
Bling - He has the finesse, now use it with the best.
Sugar - .....Thank you for reading this far......

The End

The biggest issue people are forgetting here are the sponsor's..............who in their right mind would want to be affilliated with a club if Benny comes on board! ::)

We'd gain more than we lost. Massive exposure guaranteed.

Re: Ben Cousins threads and Poll [Merged]

Is he really a drug addict.....or he just loves partying and got busted too many times because of who he is?
remember the media loves stories!! im not saying he is innocent but:

Best available is our policy...and if he is in the PSD

How could Miller not be throwing kitchen sinks at the afl and cousins agents to get him in the PSD....we trade, draft players on what they can do on the footy ground, and on the footy ground ben cousins is for lack of a better word untouchable.....i can see the back lash from astute members, families, kids, and public as unethical and tarnishes the values of this club.....but this club of ours is not exactly squeeky clean......exposing our kids to ben cousins footy prowess his brownlow, and premireship status and throw in his presence alone our kids will be better off technically................as for the drugs....believe me its nothing they have not seen around footy clubs. If we are sheep and scared of the public eye and media scruitiny instead of doing the upmost to put quality on the field well...we are more of shambles then i think.

but i cant see Miller having the balls to chase

None of us would know the answers but surely Ben going back to America to check in for more rehab says something. You don't just do that for the fun of it.

Re: Ben Cousins threads and Poll [Merged]

I was against Cousins coming to Tigerland, but now that it could very well be a possibility, I am starting to see the positives.
Stil 75/25 against though.

Re: Ben Cousins threads and Poll [Merged]

Benny is the Lindsay Lohan of the AFL.No doubting his football ability......it's the baggage that comes with it!

Re: Ben Cousins threads and Poll [Merged]

Couldn't we just truss him up 'Hannibal style' and just let him loose on match days?

You would if you want to cut through the red tape and avoid being punished fully

Why it's worth taking a gamble on him

1) He is brilliant, one of the games best

2) His work ethic on the track is exceptional, quite possibly best in the league, just listen to interview from Kerr/Judd. Would set a great example in this area for the younger players.

3) Could play at least another 3-4 years

4) We could pick him up dirt cheap

5) Look at who else is avilable in the PSD, they are all garbage.

6) Getting out of Perth, is what he needs to help turn his life around

Comment
I actually beleive he is a good influance on younger players, due to
A) The youngers players after football hours associate with younger players, not the older ones.
B) the younger players interaction with Cousins 95% of the time would be on the training track and match day

I propose we take him pick 1 PSD, with strict contract conditions.
Pay him minimum wage in 2008, and don't even play him next year, let him get himself right
