Re: Ben Cousins threads and Poll [Merged]

The excerpt below is probably being forgotten in this latest scandal but it's worth revisiting..

Cousins is suspected to have been using illicit substances as far back as 2002 given his reported connections with the underworld.
Given their apparent drug culture the Weagles & Cousins have plenty of dark clouds hanging over them re their success IMO.

He said methamphetamine would have a performance-enhancing effect on an athlete, giving them increased stamina and assisting in weight loss.

He said he was not shocked to hear of an elite athlete like Cousins becoming addicted to methamphetamine, which he said was also popular with many American sports stars.

"It is not surprising for me to see anyone develop a substance abuse disorder. With this gentleman (Cousins), he sampled it and it was probably useful in his training activities to get weight off and reduce fatigue but unfortunately that comes with a price -- addiction."

So why hasnt he been positive in his testing then ToO - questions need to be asked

Re: Ben Cousins threads and Poll [Merged]

So Demetriou considers sanctioning the Eagles. What a drop kick. Last time I looked the Eagles are not allowed to drug test players and the AFL has a drug policy that allows this kid to be on the gear for 5 years without picking it up. If there are parties to blame here it is the AFL and the AFL players association who are complicit with the AFL in allowing this joke to persist.

sheesh he was only found with antidepressants .. ffs he was with chick and a mate who were also pulled over . cocaine speed marijuana was found in that car cousins refused a drug test go work it out.

i know as a fact that that when cousins ran from the booze bus cocaine was found where they ran. this info comes from a very high ranking cop whose name will remain confidential. this two times he has avoided testing by breaking the law.
Blow it out your lower half Claw, the facts were, he was found with anti-depressants on him, nothing else, for all he has done wrong in the past, he was rail roaded on this one, with your way of thinking and lack of evidence, perhaps Lindy should've been locked up for life?

But there are some real heartless toss pots around here, happy to scream blue murder about bloody draft selections yet just at home viciously vilifying someone for failing the first step in rehab.
Unless you know the background of posters on this site, you need to be careful how you label them. A lot of people will have first hand experience of what Cousins is going through. They are only presenting their opinions, as are you.
Freezer, the basis of my 'toss pot' rant was more the "Go to blazes Cus, go to *smile* blazes !" call than anything else. Perhaps some lazy quoting on my part but the point is still the same.

I’m no bleeding heart but I just don’t understand the level of histrionics when it doesn’t affect posters directly. As you say you don’t necessarily know what peoples’ experiences on here are, but I doubt Cousins has had too much direct contact with 99.9% of them.

I appreciate the nature of the site is to speculate and voice good or harsh opinion. I’ve enjoyed the banter and intrigue of this particular thread but IMO to aggressively and contemptuously deride the failed recovery of a drug addict is bloody low, bottom of the barrel stuff.

Fair enough - a point well made.

Smile you, *smile* head! (I would suggest you ask for a refund from your finshing school, you old charmer)
Sick of do gooder idiots sucking up to spoilt brats.
Cusins is a tool! Nobody else in society gets all these chances thrown at them.
You think entering rehab is admirable, what a joke, he didnt pay for it mate.
Most junkies could never afford such luxuries. You idiots feeling sorry for a party boy, Joke!
Tell me what good has he done for society? Just cause hes a top sportsman everybodys there to lend a hand.
Com'on tell me, other than footy what makes him any more of a hard luck case than anyother user.
So is the problem that he has money? Is it that he has been afforded good rehab?

Not sure where I suggested he was a hard luck story? Rather a little bit of sympathy/understanding for a drug addict. If he was robbing and mugging to get his fix I would suggest tougher measures, but he aint.

Seems now that people may have jumped the gun, or maybe not?

I still worry about people who enjoy a good game of 'kick em while their down'. Do they teach that at finishing school?

Whilst I don't agree with MIV style of prose I do agree with his sentiments.

Personally, I am sick of Ben Cousins. Whilst the vast majority of us struggle through life on less than a 10th of his income ( a 5th even?), without all of the handouts, without all of the help, without someone covering up our mistakes he gets a dream life and keeps screwing it up.

How many times does he need help before he can help himself? How many times does he have to screw up before he asks himself "what's going on?". Does he not learn from his mistakes?

He's a bit like Warnie really. You love them as sportsman but come to realise they are immature, irresponsible, spoilt and will clearly never learn.

It's not about kicking him when he's down, it's about saying "when do you grow up and learn and when do you start to take responsibility and change your ways"?

Re: Ben Cousins threads and Poll [Merged]

I see his lawyer wants to go for the jugular.

Be interesting to see if Cousins decideds to sue the Weagles for wrongful dismissal.

I doubt it somehow.

Don't think he'll want his dirty laundry aired in court.

Sorry Elmer, I have Tourette's and bi "smiling" polar

I tried and tried, but i just cant feel sorry for him. But still, i'd love to have the smart ass playing for us.
Also i believe there are far superior alternatives than costly bull "smiling" sh#t holiday
resorts with hollywood hypnotherapy and spa baths
SORRY!, (expressed with head wobble) they often fail, which is unfortunate.
I feel rehab should be used in conjunction with, and back up to, Neltexone. Which is only available in Perth.

I think the sticking point for cuz is as part of his revised contract he cannot refuse a drug test, so the Hun says anyway...

Re: Ben Cousins threads and Poll [Merged]

yeah I would think any claims against the eagles are big noting lawyer speak
surely the drug test refusal gave them grounds to dismiss

I really don't think ben needs any neltexone or US rehab clinics for the stars. The guy seems to be a partier and the the solution to him kissing his career goodbye had to come from himself....too late. The clinic visit earlier in the year appeased the AFL, Eagles, his family and the public, it was never going to solve his problem.

Being on drugs and driving kills people, been there, seen that. Not helping the police on 3 occassions shows his worth to society. He gets what he deserves, finally. Let him ruin his own life if thats what he chooses, he's a big boy now. But don't Muck up the AFL brand while he smerks his way through life (such that it is), being an embarisment to all that still support him and love him, its time he showed them his worth, whatever it ends up being.

Re: Ben Cousins threads and Poll [Merged]

The point about Cousins not helping police would come from his lawyer, the more you give police the less a lawyer can help, Cousins would have learnt this from his lawyer the last time he was in the ####.

Re: Ben Cousins threads and Poll [Merged]

What number are we going to give Ben? :hihi :hihi :hihi :hihi

Re: Ben Cousins threads and Poll [Merged]

I hope he applies to be allowed to register for the draft.

I can't see on what grounds the AFL can refuse him.

I would.

Cousins has as much right to play as Krak, Scotland, Farmer, Whitnall, Headland, Lovett, Fevola and any other player who has been caught up with the police in the last couple of years. Has more right to play than Richard Pratt has to be a President. In fact, Cousins police record is rosier than quite a few others.

Agree with Evo, can't see on what ground he can be denied an AFL players registration.
