How anyone could entertain the thought of him being drafted by us is beyond me seeing -
a) He's been arrested and in jail
b) He's a drug addict
c) He has known criminal associates
d) West Coast will sack him or lose sponsors
e) The AFL will most likely deregister him for bringing the game into disrepute

Personally I would rather spend another 27 years without a premiership than have this sort of lowlife around the club. If any club picked him up they would be chasing the same cheap fix high that has got Ben where he is now.

Well if Chick wasn't gone before now, he is gone now.

I doubt West Coast fans will let him live in the state, let alone remain on the team.

I think the Eagles will retain Cousins as a fans appeasement measure. Sort of helping him out through a tough patch (much like I think we will with Krakouer).

But I think he has played his last game with them.

The way the Eagle's fans (and some tv commentators) went on after his return from rehab this year are a big part of the culture problem they have out west. A junkie coming back into the team when he should have been suspended for 2 years and was treated like he was the 2nd coming of the almighty made me sick at the time.

He should have come back with shame but they brushed it under the carpet and patted him on the back inflating his ego again. Wonder if a non-brownlow winning, non-club champion would have got the same reception?

As for Chick, I suppose he will offer to cut off his nose to continue his career now...

I don't know if anyone has ever listened to 6PR(first time for me) but it's talk back radio with Barich and hardie is bizzare.

Everyone who rings in either blames all this on the Eastern media,Ben 'going through a hard time',society or some various other conspiracy against Ben or the Eagles.

Doesn't suprise at all, the media in perth are easily the most one-eyed, chip on shoulder, poor knowledged lot leysy's seen. Really tough to take when living there, only option is to tune out....

Spot on Leysy and I live in the West.

I made an earlier comment about the national draft but it was wrong as I thought we still had pick 18 however the essence of it, as I understand the implications of the AFL sanctions bought against the Toasters following Ben's first indiscretion, is that they stood the chance of loosing ALL their draft picks (National and Pre Season)if any of their players, and Ben particularly, was found to bring discredit upon the AFL. In saying that, I hope I'm a little closer to the mark as I believe they have five picks in the first 32. In the end they might be thankful they got Kennedy during the trade week!

Following on from Ben's arrest, the WA Police have not named the drug he had in his possession but after watching a Four Corners program some months ago, its probably safe to bet that it was "ice". As Four Corners quoted that 98% of those addicted to "ice" never give it up. As one and all can see, particularly in the West's goldfish bowl, Ben has been the epitome of self restraint and sacrifice since his choreographed apology on national television and subsequent visit to Disneyland!

If only he could channel the same determination to win the ball into beating his addiction!

I forgot AFL players dont smoke, drink, take drugs, have relations with the opposite gender, swear, gamble, go out past 9pm.....please dont be so naive....Cousins if they could get his head right (thats a big if)...got him away from Perth...would be perfect in our side....

Might blow up in our face too 8ty. Ever consider that?

This guy is starting to develop a criminal record. How many of these AFL players you are talking about have those?

Very true my old friend.... not many on my side on this one.... but if Cousins said to the RFC i want to play on...ill come to Melbourne get away from the Perth scene and ill go on a reasonable contract (one yr) - FOR NOTHING..... it would take some balls for the club to refuse...but they are all massive IFs and variables right now....but gee if we got him up and going for no price it would be some get. If he is not willing to do any of this then of course i wouldnt touch the man... in fact the only reason i entertain the thought is all down to the mans incredible footballing abitilty nothing more than that.

Problem is 8ty he signed an ammended contract with the Eagles saying he would do all those things. Just hasn't happened. From the minute he got out of rehab he was back in old circles and many were howled down for saying he was a disaster waiting to happen. Can't see him changing now, if he couldn't read the writing on the wall last time. (unfortunately)

The only person who can drag himself out of this mess his Ben Cousins. Unless he finally decides to sort himself up, not amount of rehab or therapy will work.

I forget who said it earlier in the thread, but he'll be lucky to see 35 unless he wakes up to himself.

Just read some of the responses in the comments section to this story in the herald sun. Must be something in the water over there in the West because something is making all these Ealges supporters suffer some pretty bad hallucinations

Everyone should get off his back. Name and Shame doesn't work. He needs all the councelling and help he can get.

He obviously has issues. He cant just be hung out. He needs to be put through long rehab.

Should the AFL just let him go and wind up over doseing? Or should they take responsibility and make sure he is drug free, even if that means funding a 2-3 year drug rehab program. Because those few months in Malibu didnt do sh!t.

The such is life tatoo is just a posers thing. He purposely showed it off in the final against port and anywhere he goes now I bet.

This should have been done long ago when everybody at the Eagles first knew there was a problem. he has issue, no doubt, but if he doesn't want to address them himself then no about of help will help him. You've gotta want to do it yourself first.

Funnily enough someone said "displaying his new Tattoo." Was this done after Mainwarings death or before. If before it says a lot about his attitude to the issues he faces.

This is what gets me. If the AFL and West Coast were serious why didn't they impose mandatory regular drug testing on Cousins on his return. Surely he should have been regularly tested given that he had just got out of rehab. The fact that he has never tested positive to an AFL drug test just inspires faith in Adolfs drug policy.

I am sure the Governement will now use this as leverage to impose its proposed stricter drug code on the AFL now. Unfortunately old Aldolfs arguments don't hold much water now do they.
