I don't understand how Cousins was only fined $900 and kept his licence after running from the booze bus last time. If that's the only penalty everyone who'd be caught should do a runner.

Did anyone ever find whatever it was he dumped in the bushes as he was running from the car :-X

Re: Ben Cousins Arrested / Will Ben Cousins Be Playing In The AFL Next Year? [Me

Find it interesting that some reports say he was driving erratically and some say he came out from the back of the car....

Maybe he was a back seat driver?

I think we are over the problem here and the sollution is one that is going to be what we are interested in.

I think we all know that Cousins will have about a 1% chance of playing at the elite level ever again. But what I want the AFL to do, is to take responsibility, like the TAC do with traffic accidents, take responsibility, the West Coast along with the AFL need to, his family and friends also need to take their own responsibility for his decline once again. I do think Chris Mainwairings death also had alot to do with it.

The last thing I want to hear, is that he is just sent away and he can look after himself, because thats how things just go from bad to worse. He needs help and weather it takes months or years is another issue.

Once the AFL finds out about a problem, they cant keep the 3 strikes policy, even afte the 1st, there needs to be some intense rehabillitation and after the second time, book him into qualified low key rehab centre and not to some "US movie star" rehab centre, because from what I can gather, they dont work. Send him in some unknown top class rehab centre. Because all Malibu is, is a movie stars fashion statement and not a rehab centre.

Although, I think that the AFL does it best, but if thats the best, well then its just not good enough. I think other codes dont do much at all, our code is unique and the players are more to us than in the NRL and A-League where people just go missing or go overseas.

The such is life tatoo is just a posers thing. He purposely showed it off in the final against port and anywhere he goes now I bet.

This should have been done long ago when everybody at the Eagles first knew there was a problem. he has issue, no doubt, but if he doesn't want to address them himself then no about of help will help him. You've gotta want to do it yourself first.

Funnily enough someone said "displaying his new Tattoo." Was this done after Mainwarings death or before. If before it says a lot about his attitude to the issues he faces.

The tatt was done before the season ended. It was on display in at least 1 game and yes it says a lot about his attitude, as does his non-apology, the people he's still associating with, and his general demeanor since he was forced into rehab.

He looks like a gangster with that tat and has the 'tude to boot.
People are beginning to stop crying for poor Benny Cousins.

Um, how can anyone else take responsibility for someone else's choices? Did his parents choose this for him?

Cousins needs to take responsibility for his actions, others can only help him in his recover IF Cousins wants to recover. His Choice. He can go to as many rehab centres as he likes, but if he doesn't want to get better, no one, really can help him help himself.

Judd & Cousins both missing from the side next year, will be interesting to see how they go.

Judd must be breathing a big sigh of relief, he couldn't have got out of there any quicker!

Re: Ben Cousins Arrested / Will Ben Cousins Be Playing In The AFL Next Year? [Merged]

Ofcourse he should take responsibilty for his own actions.

I'm not saying at all that he shouldnt be a man and not take responsibility for his own actions. But what I am saying, is that he is obviously not strong enough to get through this. The people and staff around him didnt do the right things to make him strong eithe. Because, if this was the best and correct method, he wouldnt end there.

He will cop his right whack, he will not be playing AFL again, he will be suspended, but the people around him have not handeled it well at all.

Re: Ben Cousins Arrested / Will Ben Cousins Be Playing In The AFL Next Year? [Merged]

First impressions last night were that this was a massive story (which it is), but there’s something else to all this.

How/why did the Gang Crime Squad pull him over for “concerns about his driving” and then not charge him with anything in respect of that driving ? Maybe he didnt actually commit a traffic infringement to allow them to, I dunno.

Why did they have a camera in his face and bail him up for 2 hours in a busy street ? Why did they make him take his singlet off and then parade him down the street in front of everyone and into the cop shop with it off, then tell him he could put it back on later ? What is this “prohibited substance” exactly and how do they know it belonged to him and not one of the other passengers in the car ? Is a prescription drug e.g. valium or viagra considered prohibited when you don’t have a prescription ?

Not taking the drug test doesn’t look good…in fact none of it looks good…but I cant help think that there’s a bit of a pre arranged cop vendetta in all this. And I dunno how much depth there is to these charges. Obviously enough to put his career in doubt, but just from a pure/legal perspective, I can see him just getting a big fine and loss of licence for the failure to take a drug test, and another slap on the wrist for posession – depending of course what he was actually in posession of.

Not good, but dunno how much real depth there is to a lot of it (at this stage anyway) and as I say, it smacks of a bit of pre-meditated or orchastrated actions by the police.

Re: Ben Cousins Arrested / Will Ben Cousins Be Playing In The AFL Next Year? [Me

Could be that the police have been tagging him. Pretty easy to do particularly if they have his mobile numbers.

If he's interesting to them they just tap his phones and follow him that way.

Suppose you were a journo in Perth. Any Cousins late night action is of interest. And Benny is a club man. You put staff at the clubs on spotters. When's he there? When's he... bahaving erratically?

You get the call. You get to the club. He's outta his mind. You see him... making friends and maybe getting a gift.

You ring the cops. You tail Benny. And you get yourself some photos. The police get on to your scam so they wait for the rest of the press to get there to get their own shots.

It's possible.

But I reckon you're probably right about the law orchestrating the public apprehension of Ned Kelly. The shirt thing is from outer space. Is that his armour? Where was trooper FitzRoy?

I would say that was definitely what happened. They were surveilling him and looking for an excuse to pull him up and he gave them one. Equally I have no problem with it because he has maintained his associations with gang figures and as the charges indicate there were drugs in the car, as for whose they were the 2 women in the car have not been arrested.
Maybe they had a specific tip off.

Pretty handy this came a mere few days after the WA govt. implemented driving under the influence of drug laws.

We all know how much goverments hate a bit of free advertising.

Thanks Ian. It was the first I'd heard of the tattoo. Maybe he thinks he is the peoples new Ned Kelly. Got news for you Benny and its all bad.

Spot on Fiesty. That is the first and most important step to rehabilitation. The person has to want it first. As soon as Benny was out of rehab he was back around the nightclub scene, back around old acquaintances. If he was serious surely these are the places he should have been avoiding like the plague.

When or will, further details of the charges be released ? In other words, the detail surrounding the possession of the prohibited substance charge. Or does that come out in court ?

Re: Ben Cousins Arrested / Will Ben Cousins Be Playing In The AFL Next Year? [Merged]

Probably thursday when he appears.
