Re: Cousins Story Sold to Nine

Unbeliveable if true,1st West Coast foot his bill for drug rehab & now he will profit from his indiscretions.

The difference is that WCE paid for it, not the AFL.

Very big difference actually and the opposite of what you wrote.

The AFL should not have granted the Weagles any relief whatsoever IMO.
The only reason they likely have is that they are admitting the failure of their drugs program to allow Benny to fall through the net.

It's the Weagles choice to pay for 'rehabilitate' Cousins in LA treatment resorts or wherever such nonsense. If this guy wasn't a Brownlow medallist/superstar he would have likely been sacked and left on the scrapheap as has occurred in other instances. However it seems to me everyone from the AFL down is still pandering to Benny.

Cousins is the guy who should have fitted the bill for his irresponsible behaviour, not the WCE.
However if the Weagles choose to do so they should not get any relief whatsoever.

Cousins did not get the AFL to foot the bill for his trip, it was just not included in the Eagles salary cap total player payments.

What is the truth on this? I thought it was reported at the time that the AFL had footed half the rehab bill but now I can't find the article.

Does anybody have a source of any articles one way or the other?

West Coast paid for the rehab & the AFL gave salary cap relief.

Re: Cousins Story Sold to Nine

I can't see any objective reason for rehab to be included in the salary cap. The 'stick it to west coast' reason is pretty good though.

Since it is highly unlikely he will be convicted of anything, profiting from criminal activity won't apply. He is just a dumb footballer trying to make a few extra bob, we already have evidence of how dumb he is. Channel eddie should be ashamed and the ones to cop flack over this, but they are so desperate for ratings they will do and pay anything. WC admin, if they knew of this, are complete imbeciles if they thought this would pass without comment.

Geez, it's really hard for some people to admit they made a mistake. You said the AFL paid for the rehab - they didn't.

Re: Cousins Story Sold to Nine

They were discussing the chance of a media deal on 3LO last night and whoever it was believed Cousins is contracted to 7 and they'll be claiming rights to his story.  It was also stated the miners got $2.5 million and the sky is the limit for what Cousins could ask considering the public interest with everyone wanting to know his story.

Edit: Does Cousins appear on The Footy Show? Maybe he's not exclusively contracted to 7 if he does.

Re: Cousins Story Sold to Nine

Thanks, mb. I'm trying to find where it was reported that the AFL was paying and where it was reported that they weren't.

Actually Jexy made the original claim that the AFL paid for Cousin's rehab, not Tigers of Old - my apologies TOO - I was wrong to think you wrote that.

Re: Cousins Story Sold to Nine

I certainly won't be watching or listening to any 'exclusive' Channel Nein (or any other network) has with Ben Cousins. IMO the story will the same regurgitated rubbish we get from any other fallen star who has succumbed to drugs. The "I made a mistake" routine followed by "I'm going to be back as a better player and person"....who really falls for this crap?

I don't think Cousins really cares about what everyone thinks of him and thus doesn't particularly care that he has brought shame upon his club and the league in general. Just an opinion I've gathered from watching him and the way he has conducted himself during this saga.

Re: Cousins Story Sold to Nine

Cousins will come out with some carefully worded diatribe that doesn't incriminate him but says sorry. It will be an interview full of nothing but unfortunately thousand's will watch.

Re: Cousins Story Sold to Nine

If true, gtreat messages for juniors. If you take drugs, you'll get brownlows, flags and extra money.

I'm still bowled over by the AFL allowing the salary cap relief. He'd be on $7-800K the least he can do is fork out $50K to clean up his own mess. If he was on $200K and had blown all his dough and was on the street, then I might be able to understand it.

I still reckon he was on the gear during games.

Re: Cousins Story Sold to Nine

Just read this in the Age. These AFL jokers or the Eagles have NFI. For starter the Eagles say he's gunna make a statement about 'his current situation'. Is it just me, or does not being able to state the actual problem suggest ongoing denial? Unbeleivable.

Also, Anderson is crapping on about how Ben should be supported and left alone blah blah. Do these jokers consider that a kick up the arse is sometimes the best medicine? Am I being old fashioned? He's a repeat, repeat, repeat offender, then repeat again. and A primadonna overpaid superstar. All this denial and castigation of anyone who thinks he deserves sanction is just making things worse.
