Mods must get sick of merging the Cousins threads? I wonder if it will slow down after his retirement?

I hope to be front and nearly centre to see of the Cuz, hopefully he plays round 22.

When was the last time we won in round 22 ??
Flogged Melbourne a couple of years back....saw us locked and loaded for 2009!

Oh, I thought it was longer than that, but I vaguely recall it being a nice day at the footy, a game that didn't mean anything except a nice fuzzy warm feeling to win.

Thanks Punxsutawney Phil.

I havent had a chance due to work commitments to post on here since cuz made his announcement. To me it was a pretty sad day to say goodbye to a champion footballer and one who gave so much to the younger players of our team. It is well documented by any player who was interviewed what he bought to the playing group. When i heard he was probably going to retire i thought initially it was a club decision but the man himself told a different story which i have no qualms in believing.

To tell you the truth, on that day he was drafted i faxed the club from my workplace asking them to really consider drafting him. Now dont go off on a tangent in thinking that i think that it would have had one iota of a difference to the final decision about what i thought. But i just wanted to say that at that point in time, it was important for the development of the young players going forward of this club to have a champion player play along side our younger guns and I thought Ben would of been so indebted to a club that would do this for him that he would give his all. He did and he has.

There now lies a greater, much greater challenge for Ben in the coming months and years without a football structure around him. Hopefully he has a strong, very strong support structure outside the club to help him through this next transition period of his life. He's done himself and the club proud yesterday in the way he typically spoke so genuinly about his circumstances. I can only wish him the best. Whilst i think he could of gone around another year and keep helping out the young guys of the club he made the right decision in hindsight. Thanks Ben and good luck mate.

Would've been good if Melbourne offered us the G in Round 22 and they could host NM at Etihad considering both teams draw small crowds.

Don't think a swap will happen now that Melbourne captain James McDonald has been pushed into retirement.
Will be in their interest to have his farewell at the MCG, so the MCC members can cheer him off.
Can hear it now as he leaves the field. "Oh well played number 23."

I was one who was against recruiting Cousins at the time and openly posted as such, but I will readily admit that I'm bloody glad no one listened to me ;D

I never had a lot of time for Cuz at the Eagles and when he was going through is much publicized drama's as always thought he was a smug smartarse, who thought himself to be above it all. Probably that was partly true and I think Cuz himself would acknowledge that was part of the problem.

However I have nothing but admiration for the guy and the way he handled himself since he came to the Richmond football club and the way both he and the club handled his exit. For a club that has so often got it wrong they got this one very right.

In fact I was hoping that Cousins would stick around for one more year, as he showed he was prepared to really put a lot of effort into helping the young guys, and he was absolutely genuine in really wanting to help the young guys grow. His efforts in getting up off the bench and walking the boundry line with Martin recently really highlighted his desire to pass on everything he could to this kid.

I take my hat off to Ben Cousin for the way he conducted himself and the way he played the game and the way he chose to exit. I was very glad to hear that he intends to remain a strong supporter of the RFC and stay involved with the club in some way.

Well done Benny Cousins. You change my opinion of you considerably. :clap

Daniel Jackson is the latest to speak volumes about Cousins. Half time interview with Jacko:

"Having him hasn't just helped us over the last 2 years, but will help us for the next TEN years".

He said the longer Ben is around the club, the better. Has helped him personally enormously because Jacko himself tags guys like Cuz. Said Benny really brings a team attitude to the club and is constantly willing to share knowledge with the young guys... is also a funny personality to have around the club which creates a good mood in the rooms.

I'm a fan of Jacko, and now even he's going on and on about what an impact Ben has had. He sounded disappointed he's at the club for "only two years", but that's still enough to have a lasting impact for 10 years.

So, according to Daniel Jackson, Ben Cousins' influence on the club will last a total of 12 years.

;)

When he did his hammy he was leading the team for possessions.

I think he was lying through his teeth in the end of game interview pretending his hammy wasn't that bad, but I hope like hell they can get him out there next week.

Reckon its all over unfortunately.

How much did we miss his run and ability to make good decisions when he went off...

Leysy will back him in to front up next week.

Yep, it was the tipping point along with Jake King fading out.

Bit sad we will never see a fully fit Chimp or Cuz work off each other.

Will be strange watching a second year Tiger doing a lap of honour in the back of a ute next week, not sure he'll get the hammy up and certain Dimma won't go into the game a player short.
Bloody weird to think I was looking forward to cheering his final send off game against the Poower and we may just have to sit and clap as he tootles his way around the ground.

Cousins has the 7 day break.

It'll need to be pretty bad for Benny not to be out there next week for his last game.

It'll be Hardwick's decision. I reckon if he can walk, Cuz will say he's right to play. I think Dimma and the medicos will put him through a pretty tough fitness test and emotion will not enter their decision making.

Geez he did some good things with the ball yesterday. His ability to see a target out of the corner of his eye when in traffic is second to none. His creativity will be missed next year.

I reckon with the speculation about him in the second half of the year, i have focussed more on him and really begun to appreciate what he has brings to the side in terms of his football. Despite hopefully having Foley back and Cotchin with a full pre-season under his belt, we will miss Benny.
