Have huge respect for him and have enjoyed the 2 years watching him run in the yellow and black. Hope the boys can get up and be competitive against saints and finish the year with a win against port for benny

Amazing, that some want to take the clubs word on %95 of the informaton that comes out of Punt Road but the %5 that involves Ben Cousins is questioned.

Agree SCOOP. Some love trying to create drama where there is none.

We should have gifted Cuz games like we do Tambo till Cuz qualifies for the father son rule and then send him out to stud. 8)

Well done Cuz ! All the best for the future.

Hopefully RFC can work out a way to keep him around the club next year and be involved.

Eg even as a fitness trainer throughout the week and also a runner on game days. Still out there in some capacity.

Well done Ben Cousins - you are a legend of the game and I am very thankful for your efforts with our kids on match days, and possibly on the training track too. I am sure they have all learnt a great deal from you and in time they will show you (and us) this. I was very proud to listen to the press conference and the way Ben and Dimma both handled themselves. Pure class.

I hope that Ben is offered some type of a role with the playing group - I think his influence with the kids will make them stand a lot taller. I am genuinely excited by the future, and proud to follow this great club. Bye Ben and I wish you the best of luck with whatever it is that you decide to do. :wave :-*

I didn't want to recruit Cuz but I've mellowed on that given what he's bought to the club.

I also think it's the right decision to not play on, and I don't think it matters who made the final call, these things are complex. The point is he is a legend of the game who goes out a champion.

However I will miss Cuz and I will be very disappointed if the boys don't send him out on a win.

Don't think that there's any doubt about that Kurtzy.
Whilst he played some good footy for us at times this was particularly true when he was at his best at WC.
Coined the phrase 'gut running' and boy could he play.
The Kerr, Judd, Cuz & Cox midfield of the mid 2ks would be up there with the best of them.
In our game, time tends to be very forgiving of off field in-discrepancies and I expect Cuz will one day join the Hall of Fame.

the game is poorer for the retirement of the likes of cousins. a character of the game and in his prime he was a wonderful footballer. he may not be a perfect person but i admire him for his resilience. well done cuz and all the best for the future. well done also to the rfc for providing him with the opportunity to play footy again when many other clubs spurned him. would have loved to have seen him in the black and white.

Interesting that Healy and Russell brought up Liam Jurrah in relation to us drafting him instead of Cousins when talking to Cameron tonight. ::)
Cameron reminded them that special permission was given for Jurrah to be taken in the PSD and Melbourne had first pick in the PSD and we had pick 6.

In the post Ablett/Lockett/Carey superstar forward era, easily my favourite player. Would watch WC just to see him run and run and run. I remember his first game and thinking jeez how do WC keep finding these stars. It was obvious he was going to be a champion. As long as he keeps his nose clean post RFC will walk into the Hall of Fame first go no worries. Good luck Cuz. Hope you stick around Tigerland but no worries at all if you don't.

Poor Russell. It must be hard to live your life being constantly shown up to be a twit.

Would've been good if Melbourne offered us the G in Round 22 and they could host NM at Etihad considering both teams draw small crowds.

Okay, for anyone doubting Ben's leadership and everything he brings to the club off-field, you must read the article on the RFC website.

"Mark Opie has been Richmond’s Team Manager since the late 1990s. In that time, he’s witnessed a lot of players come and go through the door at Punt Road. There’s no doubt in his mind that Cousins is the best all-round leader he’s seen at Tigerland in terms of his ability to engender a spirit of unity."

"I said to ‘Fly’ (Craig McRae) that he is the best leader I have ever seen in my time in football and his reply was: ‘He is the best leader I’ve seen in my playing and coaching career!’ Coming from a football person as well credentialed as Craig McRae, that’s really saying something . . ."

So, according to those who know best, Ben Cousins is a better leader than Michael Voss, Jonathan Brown, Brad Scott, Leigh Matthews - and a host of other great leaders of the game.

Let's hope that Ben discovers a passion for coaching.

Interestingly Terry Wallace mentioned we actually chased Cousins 12 mnths prior to him landing at Tigerland.Greg Miller asked the AFL if we could get Cousins in the PSD even though he was serving a 12mnth ban at the time. The thought was for Ben to train with us while recovering from his Hammy.

Ben Cousins

Port Adelaide will remember this game & not for winning but being the team that played in the final game for Ben Cousins lets hope they form a guard of honour for Ben as I am pretty sure they will I will be there front and centre to see a class act farewell us all .

Mods must get sick of merging the Cousins threads? I wonder if it will slow down after his retirement?

I hope to be front and nearly centre to see of the Cuz, hopefully he plays round 22.

When was the last time we won in round 22 ??

Oh, the irony

Zillions of column inches about the Cousins retirement - a large amount of which has been devoted to Richmond's role in the affair, throwing him a lifeline, etc. The final impression one gets is that what the RFC did for Cousins will ultimately reflect well on the club, something it can be proud of, a positive thing for the club to hang its hat on going forward (don't you just hate the expression), and so on.

Perhaps.

But has anyone pondered the irony of the fact that a very large part of the reason we got him in the first place is that one TW thought Cousins might get us over the line into the finals in 2009 and save his (TW's) neck.

Delicious.
